You probably have a few nerd friends who share your love of certain obscure shows, games, music or movies, but it seems there's always that one thing you love that none of your friends seems to like or be interested in. That one thing that you never have anyone to talk to about, nerd out with about, or play with.

For me it's Homestuck. My boyfriend is a huge nerd, and we have lots of fandoms in common, (Adventure Time, Mass Effect etc,) but sadly he can't bring himself to make the time and energy investment that Homestuck requires. Many of my other friends won't even give it a chance after I attempt to explain it's plot and format. As a result, no one gets my references, and I have no one to discuss plot twists with.

So what's yours? What do you love in loneliness?

There would be Dwarf Fortress that I guess I am not lonely with when it comes to the internet, but in general nobody I talk to even heard of it.
I also happen to like KMFDM which basically nobody has heard of or they don't like it. I'd have to think very hard to find something only I like, there's just too many people in the world for that.

I have to say Patapon. I LOVE patapon. It's truly my favorite game series and I could spend all day talking about the things that make it so awesome to me. But it is rarely mentioned online. I see a one or two fans randomly every few months but it doesn't happen enough if you ask me. And my friends. Man. My friends either don't care for the game or can't play it to save there lives.
I was so glad multiplayer online came out for 3. I played online for hundreds of hours. I haven't played it recently but the music still plays in my head.

For me, it's Buffy the Vampire Slayer. No one ever wants to watch with me. And it's so much fun!

Why will no one watch Buffy with me - not even my fiance?!

Majesty: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim

No one loves you like I do, baby.
Majesty is awesome. I still have some of the heroes last words rattling around in my head.

"I join... the wild spirits..."
"Leave my gold... alone..."
"My service... ends..."

And so on. A great game, truly.

OT: As for me... I suppose music. Strangely enough, the only person I know who shares my tastes in music is my mother. All my friends either don't talk about music, or they like heavy metal.

But then, I don't particularly want to talk about music, so that doesn't bother me. Books, on the other hand, nobody I know reads like I do. It'd be nice if my friends read the kind of books I did, so we could recommend things to each other.

aaaah Homestuck. I was following that for months, but then I stopped for a bit. And now if I get back into it I have to start all over at the beginning and read/watch/play a couple years' worth of comics to get back up to speed :(

As for me, I would have to say Reboot. Season 3 in particular was one of the best things on TV ever! They took what was up to that point just a silly CG kids show with a bunch of nerd references, and leveled it up into an awesome season-long epic story arc. I still think the fight between grown-up Enzo and Megabyte in the third-to-last episode is the best TV fight scene ever. Sadly, not many people I know were into that show.

I had a friend in high school who owned Patapon back when the PSP was still expensive and exciting. I played it during gym class every now and then, it was pretty damn fun. I never actually bought it myself, though. The actual control scheme always left a little to be desired for me.

OT: I don't really associate myself with any particular fandoms. If I had to put myself into any groups of "fandoms" (which I define as people who have an irrational love for something), the biggest ones I would pick are Scrubs, Metal Gear Solid, and I had a third one . . . well, I can't remember my actual third pick, so I'll choose the backup third pick: Sonic the Hedgehog.
Why, you ask? Well, sit tight and I'll explain.

Scrubs: I find it to be a very funny and realistic show (even despite the fantasies that are a running gag throughout the show), with excellent acting, directing, and writing, and the fact that it was filmed in a real (albeit abandoned) hospital made the series feel just that much more authentic.

Metal Gear Solid: Lets face it, MGS as a series has an extremely bloated, convoluted story that could've been better written by someone at a high school grammatical level. Despite that, the characters have always been very well characterized, the graphics have always pushed each console to its very limits, the sound and art direction are fantastic (and on a similar note the music composition for each game is stellar as well), and the story, while badly written and as Yahtzee said in dire need of an editor preferably armed with pruning shears, is still interesting. (Also, as a side note, while the top-down camera is extremely frustrating and the control scheme is abysmal to get the hang of, I've really grown to love the gameplay of the MGS series. The AI in particular is extremely fun to toy with and the shooting is never really too broken to kill the rest of the game.)

Sonic the Hedgehog: What can I say, I'm a freak. I've liked most of his 3D games. '06 was the first one that I simply stopped playing out of frustration, I liked Adventure and Adventure 2 (save for the stupid mech levels and Big the Cat), I had a lot of fun with Heroes, and I love the day levels from Unleashed/ the gameplay from Colors. I had fun with Sonic 4 and have even obtained all except for one Chaos Emerald in it, and I'm looking forward to Generations.

Oh, and I finally remembered my original third pick (kind-of sad when I look at my avatar): World of Warcraft. Now, I'm not one of the crazy "imba" players who looks down upon the rest of the player-base because 1% of the population of the game has beaten the hardest content, but I have spent an inordinate amount of time looking up information about statistics and talent distribution to maximize the potential of my own characters at a given gear-level and I don't think any of the pointless bitching about it "being dumbed down" holds any weight just because Blizzard wants to let more people experience the actual content (oh, and because only 1% of the player population has actually beaten the hardest content! It might be closer to 10%, I don't know or care, but I see those types of posts all of the time whenever I happen to visit WoW forums from people who haven't even done the easiest parts of the current content. Stop basing your own game experience on what other people have done! Er, sorry, I went off on a tangent.)

I have ~5 friends who got into Homestuck along with me for a good few months.
We're sick of it now and we find the fandom totally insufferable as a rule. Mostly for the horrible porn fanart. Have you seen that shit goddamn

Hussie does too much dicking around for my tastes. I'll probably read it again in 2017+ when he finally finishes it and moves on to his next comic. HOWEVER, I am still securely rooted in the SBAHJ fandom.

Oh my god, less than 10 responses so far and already two other Majesty fans. Where did you people come from?

Anyway, that would have been my thing but it seems I'm not so alone as I thought.

I've never heard of GrimSheeper, but I LOVE KMFDM, if it makes you feel any better.
I think that if their song 'Brute' was played on those planetary speakers from the Hitchhikers Guide series it STILL wouldn't be loud enough.
The song 'Power' always makes me visualize people vigorously exercising in Hell.

For myself I've developed a taste for Richtofen/Dempsey slash. [Yeah the American marine and the German doctor from the Call of Duty- Nazi Zombie games.] I found some people on DeviantArt who share my tastes but my partner doesn't like it, and won't read my one fan-fic. It's a lonely feeling.
[Especially since he's bi. He just doesn't like that pairing.]

Definitely my music. The Post-Hardcore genre. It's just not that popular at all.
[Insert random gibberish here showing how exciting it is to see another person who doesn't hate that genre with all of their guts because "It's like, all just noise and screaming!"]

I love that genre.

Probably anime, I don't watch it that often, but I don't think my friends are big fans of anime other than admitting to watching Dragonball Z when they were younger.

So do I. But it's just not that well known in New Zealand.

Don't worry, it's not only New Zealand. I've only met one person who shared a liking of post-hardcore music in my state, and no one I've associated with online has seemed to like it either. Predominant music genres around here appear to be rap/hip-hop and then country, followed by alternative rock. And it seems most people I know who don't just like those tend to like classic rock/techno/electronica/whatever they consider to be "real" metal (usually old Metallica, Black Sabbath, Pantera, etc.)

Though I've met a few people who hate post-hardcore because it's not heavy enough for them (typically fans of death metal and other similar genres). I attempt to just avoid talking about music anymore, because I don't limit myself to any certain genre (the only ones I don't like are country and hip-hop and I don't actively search out rap, jazz, big band, soul, or pop, but I do like them and most any other genre) but for some reason so many people seem to think that you can't possibly like Eminem and Asking Alexandria and Between the Buried and Me and Blink-182.
