persona 2 inoccent sin (eternal punishment was a hell of alot easier) took me about two hours of constant reserections to beat him, in all fairness thougth i was underleveled at about 47, and didnt really know how to use the persona system effectively, still having very week persona's so that probably would explain it.

So I just spent 6 hours fighting Luci in Dante's Inferno. It fried my brain to the point the fight is ingrained into my head; I'm having like miniature Nam flashbacks XD
So Now, I'm curious, what's the longest you've spent throwing yourself against a brick wall of a boss?
Oh my god.
Have you tried on the hardest difficulty?
It almost made me snap the disk

Most of the bosses in Star Ocean 4 became battles of attrition, especially the final boss the fucker took me a good hour or so.

It took me a while to beat Xemnas the first time, not because he was hard or anything I was stupid and used Oath Keeper instead of something better.

Also I spent a good amount of time on the Piranha plant boss in Yoshi's island because I had ignored the stuff about ricocheting eggs. I finally beat him by accidentally shooting eggs at the wall in frustration.

I enjoyed fighting the Super-Sniper that was The End with my little crooked-sights short range tranq gun. And whilst it was a long-ish fight, I was still able to take him on in one sitting, have played quite a bit of the game both before and after with nobody yelling at me to get off the PS2 so they could play.
So, y'know.

The third last mission of the three possable endings of Armoured Core: For Answer, the one where you have to fight the four top ranking mechs on your own (your teammate dies in like, 5 seconds) I swear to god I broke a controller and went through 6 batteries to finish that *****.
Oh yeah, that one was bad... Eventually I just went with the cheapo ZINC Launcher/gatling gun combo, but that still took me a lot of tries.

Mimiron springs to mind, that was something like 5 hours of wipes.

The Biolizard in Sonic Adventure 2 took me a while to defeat.

It was Xenosaga, and it was the boss where you only have Momo and Ziggy. I forget the bosses name, but the damn fight took me 2 hours... and this wasn't 2 hours of repeatedly dying and trying again, I meant two hours for my one attempt. I was able to beat him in the end, but damn it took forever and I was left with a sliver of health all the time.

I'm guessing RAAM on the hardest difficulty. But it was worth it when I got like 5 achievements at once.
Edit: It would be the boss battles in SSBB on the highest difficulty, but those aren't really the same guy.

The robot boss of the South Park game. I put 4 hours in trying to kill the bastard but was never lucky enough with my plunger to halt his healing. To this day I still haven't beaten him.

Marquis Elmdore in the original Final Fantasy Tactics.

Why? It took [i/]hours[/i] to steal all his bad-ace equipment.
Hehehehe... Not for me. I always luck out when it comes to stealing. The only item I ever have trouble with in that game is Gafgarion's damned Blood Sword.

If you count the guy at the end of the plane with the hostage in CoD4's Mile High Club, about 7 hours worth of attempts, and that's on a level timed so you only have 1 minute. Other than that, nothing too ridiculous. I'm not a huge fan of hack and slash, or turned based RPGs which most of these bosses seem to be from.

The End from Metal Gear Solid 3. Geeze, if I wasn't trying to hunt the guy down, I was running back to the boss area...

Legend of Zelda: oracle of seasons. I had finished the game before(some years ago) but when I got up to Onyx I just couldn't figure out how to hurt him. I avoided his attacks and tried every combination of item and weapon in my inventory for what must have been at least half an hour. After giving up and talking to my little brother about it he reminded me I could only hurt him with the spin attack. Annoying thing is I had figured it out before, the last time I played, guess I just wasn't in the right frame of mind that day. xD

i'm not really sure. but to start i will say sephiroth from kh1-2 and ff7(i'm counting all his forms)

there was this dark genie dude from dark cloud. it took so long because u had to constantly go to the menu and change your weapon elements. my party was weak so it took about 2 hours to get his health down after i crippled his hands.i was so happy when i got to his second i just used a bunch of stamina potions so i was near invencible and i just wailed on his ass with toan's upgraded weapon.

One boss I will never forget. I got to his final form after ages of pure suffering... and died. Never went back to try again, too much psychological damage done.

Final boss - Star Ocean 4

Solid 30 minutes for a single fight. Did beat him first try, though. Still...30 minutes of pounding away in a Real Time combat system. Not to mention the boss before the final boss.

It took me about 40 minutes to beat Ultimecia. Three or four hours if you count all the times she handed my ass to me.
Ahh the most annoying not-optional boss in a (J)RPG I've played. Getting random party members didn't help and the ***** would keep blasting away my strongest spell resources (equal to destroying equipment really). I'd just think "Hurray, the witch is- transforming again?! Give me a break!"

I spent 2 days finishing the final summon in Final Fantasy X....

.....however, I guess that is cheating in terms of this thread. I left the game running whilst I went to do something else and only realised it was still going when I came back after a weekend away. Still 'technically' the longest boss fight I ever had.
