I've been playing quite a bit of Minecraft lately... on peaceful mode. I occasionally show my hardcore gamer tendencies by cranking it up to easy, but I've just been really opposed to fighting anything after losing all of my valuable items a dozen times or so. I know that other players have felt the same whiplash when their diamond picks and other hard- earned items get blown to pieces. Everyone probably has a good system to survive in single player, so feel free to share them.

I find that setting monsters on fire works well. Just start a fire on the ground in front of them and they'll walk into it.

I use:

- Wolves.
- Bury enemies in sand, suffocating them.
- Circle-strafe skeletons.
- Get lucky with creepers in close combat.
- Run and wall up the cave as I go.
- Torches. Torches everywhere.

Run. If that doesn't work run faster.

If neither of those plans work dig a hole straight down block it off and cry for salvation.

Spam Arrows... it's worked for me... or run away while lighting the ground on fire so they step on it and catch fire...

Run.

Actually, I like to keep rivers of lava flowing around my house, with very small and twisty safe paths, so that's actually a viable way for me to kill the buggers :p

Sadly, that means that any wolf pets I like to keep die off pretty quickly :(

Left click, S, W, Left click, S, W, Left click, S, W, etc.

Skeletons, circle strafe.

The combat/mobs is the cheapest part of the game. I don't understand people being exhilarated by mobs and combat. Creepers, especially. Skeletons can be more annoying than creepers.

Step 1: Make a bow
Step 2: Make arrows
Step 3: Point bow at (insert enemies)
Step 4: Hold right mouse button
Step 5: Win

Seriously, the bow fires off like a machinegun. You have to kill a few spiders to make one, but it's worth it.

If shit gets too real and I dont want to lose something, I'll swtich to peaceful.

Other then that, I run to my house (which is made of sand cept for the roof, which is made of glass and has a cross on it, since its made to look like a spanish mission) which is surrounded by a ring of Lava, which is then surrounded by a ring of water.

For the "melee" enemies it's just a matter of timing. Hit with sword, wait for them to just get back into range, hit again. The trick is to keep bouncing them back. The AI is incredibly dumb, just remember that.

Skeletons are built for circle strafe.

Of course, both of these things can be avoided by using bow/arrow, plus you can generally collect the "missed" shots.
