Actually, I like to keep rivers of lava flowing around my house, with very small and twisty safe paths, so that's actually a viable way for me to kill the buggers

Sadly, that means that any wolf pets I like to keep die off pretty quickly

Make a doggy door at the back and have them sit there while you go around and pick them up.

Minecraft? Combat strategy? I don't get how you can ask that question. This game has some of the most primitive combat imaginable. You hit something, move, hit again, move, etc. In most cases that's all you can do.

...is it just me, or for such a cutesy and simple looking game, the whole survival/combat side is a lot more tense and difficult than even some "serious" suvival horrors? xD

Yes, it's just you. How you can even say that without a hint of irony baffles me. The combat in this game is as shallow as a kiddie pool.
