What momnet was most surprising to you in your time playing Fallout 3? Why did it surprise you?

My most surprising moment was when I stumbled across Oasis by accident. I was first surprised by the green plants that dotted the pathway to the gate. Then I finally got inside and was awestruck at what I saw: trees, living trees. However I was surprised the most when I met Harold and Herbert (aka Bob).

Honorable Mention is when you meet President John Henry Eden.

You're on a roll with these Fallout 3 threads.

My most surprising moment was meeting John Henry Eden.

Honorable mention goes to finding out The Family's secret.

Two really jump to mind:

First and foremost were the options given for completing what is generally considered to be a simple side quest. Blow up Megaton or not, and having things around me fly as the shock wave hits my character and my rumble controller. Not really played a game that gave me such a wil choice.

Second, my honorable mention, was the amount of suspense the game could build, in searching for "the family" at a low level and after dark had settled in, sneaking through Hamiltons Hideaway, not knowing what was around, thinking there were Vampires ready to jump me from the shadows at any second, then a rad-scorpion shows up for the first time attacking me from behind, damn I jumped out my chair. I've never had a game put me on edge like that before, it made it far more immersive.

My favorite moment was when I found a girl(I dont remember who exactly) that was in the vault in the beginning roaming the Wastes. That impressed me a little bit.

You and your Fallout 3 threads made me start playing Fallout 3 again.

On topic, mine would have to be something that just occurred today. A mole rat corpse flew out of the sky and landed next to me. I looked behind me and saw a sentry bot fighting a death claw. The sentry bot won, but it was weak so I easily killed it. I then noticed a dead giant rad scorpion next to death claw, and next to that were the corpses of 3 Brotherhood Outcasts.

I still have no idea as to what happened in that area.

Where did you see her? I think you might have come across Amata.

I don't remember which vault it was, but it was occupied by people who only said "Gary". The most surprising part was when one of the Garys said, "Haha! Gary". It was so out of place it surprised and unnerved me.

I had just taken down some raiders attacking this salvager in the wastes. I talk to the salvager and sell some stuff.

As soon as I exit the conversation, a truck behind me explodes, sending the the salvagers limbs flying in a wide variety of directions(luckily my character had survived).

I sat there for a few seconds with my mouth agape from the sheer shock of the moment. Then I looted the salvagers body and went on my merry way.

I was surprised at the sheer amount of pleasure I received after putting a full clip through Sticky's face.

When blowing up Megaton did not yield an equal number of missions. There I was thinking the developers that give two distinct paths (Good and Evil) would make them equal. Nope. Blowing up Megaton gives you about 3 missions with Tenpenny Tower, as opposed to all the missions you get in the Survival Book chain alone. And me without a save point prior. Sad day.

In the corvega factory, I had a flamer to kill off the ants and had turned my back from a pile of flaming ant corpses when I was attacked from behind to see that an soldier ant crawled over the flaming bodies of its brothers to attack me.

That or when the feral ghoul reaver attacked me in Hubris Comics, managed to block me in where I couldn't escape, I could have crapped my pants

I'm pretty sure if you fuck up Vault 101, she and the other vault dwellers are forced into the wastes. You can then encounter her later on being threatened by the enclave.

Vault 108. That was both surprising and hilarious to me. I even thought I heard one say "duuuh... GARY!" in a sort of retarded tone. That made me nearly fall of my chair laughing.

Well to be fair you can continue the survivor book if you nuke Megaton. You just have to meet up with Moria in Underworld.

Though it;s pretty lame that nuking Megaton is the only thing you do with Mr.Burk and Tenpenny. I thought you would have a whole chain of evil missions to do.

Are you playing the XBOX 360 version with the downloads?

Every time I went into that vault by myself (i.e. no one watching me play), it just creeped me out to no end. I was more anxious in there than the Deathclaw sanctuary.

Well, there was this one time at band camp I saw a deathclaw off in the distance, so I readied my gauss rifle and aimed at its head, only to have it rise rapidly into the air like gravity had just decided the wasteland had one too many of them.
That was pretty hilarious.

Oh, another time when my brother was playing, he managed to hit and kill a turret that only had a 2% chance of hitting in VATS.
Seeing as I frequently miss with 95%, I disowned him for the day.
He didn't seem bothered.
The jerk.

That is just epic. I'm sure it was somewhat funny too..
