Yes. Yes it does. And Ulver is one of my favorite bands. >w<
You win an internet high five for not only liking Ulver but also for liking King Diamond :3

As do you. =o

Quick, do you like early Ulver as well? Because they've changed quite a bit over the years. *Nods*

I rather enjoy Basshunter's techno remix of Jingle Bells. It breaks up the cycle of the same Christmas songs you've heard since you were a kid.

Well, of course :3

Their albums Bergtatt and Kveldssanger are two of my favourites of all time.
I love how diverse they are though. They've gone from awesome death/black metal to a very peaceful/haunting progressive metal.

I will admit, since I heard the stuff from Blood Inside and Shadows of the Sun first, I like that a bit better :D

What's funny though is that I just discovered them recently. Someone on the youtube video for Devin Townsend's Christeen was talking about them and I looked 'em up and loved the music ^-^

That's fantastic then. ^-^

Ulver remains one of my favorite (former) black metal bands, though I'm a fan of much of their later stuff as well, Blood Inside being my favorite of their albums past Nattens Madrigal. I'm a sucker for the vocals above all else. As far as atmospheric music goes, they top the list alongside Agalloch and Alcest. Glad to find somebody with somewhat similar interests in music who actually has knowledge of good bands. :3

I don't even remember how I discovered them. I think somehow I discovered them in a related videos list for an Emperor song, though that might've been Carpathian Forest. Any other bands that you feel partial to that sound similar?

Silent Night and White Christmas are generally my favourite songs. But I will not listen to a single note of any song that's been redone by Mariah Carey, that woman's vocal gymnastics just make me want to run far, far, far away.

I can see that. I suppose their later stuff is a bit more of an... acquired (?) taste so going from black metal to the ambient stuff is pretty interesting of a choice, you know?

But as for other bands... I'm actually not really a big fan of Black metal, to be honest. I'm a bit more particular to progressive metal type bands like Cynic [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fhVLykF3nU] or Pelican [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GwoyABFONg], folk metal bands like Equilibrium [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWjVWOIRaOE] or Eluveitie [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMrDKyvThnc]. Even Japanese metal bands like Maximum the Hormone [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0epwjWF3Wwo] and UnsraW [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85mLq4vH_mc] are some of my favourite bands :3

But my all time favourite metal artist would have to be DT [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKSI5rdKmwo]

Yeah, Ulver's like Burzum in that regard, sans the jail time and white supremacy shenanigans. Except Ulver's had high quality ambient music, in comparison with Burzum's mixed quality. I'll admit that Varg is one of my favorite musicians, despite his checkered past and ridiculously extremist beliefs.
Ulver had about as much success, and they did so without prison time. So yay for them. =D

Yeah, I understand. It took me awhile to get into it, but I absolutely love it. Again, diversity. Arcturus and Sigh also being fantastically eclectic bands that fall under black metal.
I'm not as big a fan of prog, though Cynic is one of the better progressive bands out there, next to Psychotic Waltz for me. And Equilibrium's pretty good folk metal from what I've heard of them, though I've been meaning to get into folk metal a bit more. About the only folk bands that I listen to regularly are Elvenking and Ensiferum, something that I've been meaning to expand on for awhile.

I've heard a bit of David Townsend before. Didn't catch my ear before, sadly.
As far as mostly solo musicians go, Vladimir Cochet tops my list. His stuff's abrasive and none too accessible, but most is extremely beautiful in a way. Not recommended if more symphonic black/death metal isn't your cup of tea. Really, I could suggest several bands, but I wouldn't want to spam this thread TOO much with suggestions. xD

I like silent night, but mostly piano instrumentals.

What really pisses me off though are the over-the-top covers of christmas songs. Drives me friggin' nuts when I have to walk through a store listening to a guy shout RUMPA BUM BUUUUM at the top of his flagellating lungs.

Also, I hate that whatever days of Cristmas song. If I could kill just one song, that would be at the top of my list.

I've actually never heard of Burzum before... but seeing as they're a bunch of jailed, white supremacists, I might just want to stay away from that type of music :3

Yeah, I often times like bands based on their amount of diversity. That's the reason I love Devin Townsend's stuff so much. No two of his albums sound the same. One's an Earthy mix of heavy songs, while another's a peaceful ambient record. Hell, even some albums change theme halfway through and back again :p
But, yes, folk metal is pretty good, but there are a limited number of them, unfortunately. Ensiferum, Equilibrium, Eluveitie, Turisas, Amon Amarth, Korplikaani and Alestorm are the only ones I can think of at the moment, to be honest, but what there is of it, it's very very good. Same with melodic death metal. I quite enjoy that too, but there isn't a whole lot of it that I really like :/

But, honestly, I'd say Japan has the most of my favourite metal bands... but perhaps that would be best saved for PMs as I too don't want to spam the hell out of this thread XD

Oh the story of Burzum's fun to tell, though it's one that's best saved for when I have a semblance of coherency. Not bad music though.

Folk's held to an extremely high standard, from what I can tell. Viking metal even more so. Makes sense, with there being fewer viking than folk metal bands.
And there's very little Melodeath that I really enjoy, sadly. There's a lot of it, but very few bands can pull it off. Kalmah and Children of Bodom are the ones that I like pretty consistently through all their music.

Japan has one of my favorite metal bands, and one that I've been meaning to look up for awhile, but I forgot the name to. And good that we're on the same page~
