Your most valuable in game possession... gone.

Of every object in every game you have ever played, what would devastate you the most to lose?

We have all poured countless hours into games. We have build structures that rival the most amazing creations of man in Minecraft. We have slayed countless enemies in RPGs to obtain a single weapon. We have achieved victory against enemies that transform into creatures that Lovecraft couldn't imagine (I'm looking at you Final Fantasy).

But my question is simple. What is your most valuable and treasured aspect of a game that you have ever lost.

Mine is my Blastoise, from the original Pokemon Blue. I was 8 years old when I bought the game on the day it released. He was my first Pokemon, but not only that, he was the first time I felt responsible for a video game character and an actual attachment to an aspect of gaming. I lost him when I was in a car accident and my Gameboy and the game was smashed. I honestly felt like i had lost a close friend that day, even though it was almost 8 years later.

My Skyrim save.

35 hours. Breton. Male. High one-handed and Destruction skills, with light armor trailing right behind. GONE after I accidentally deleted it while making room for a new character. I didn't value one single possession that much, but I was very, very satisfied with the progress I had made thus far. But, damn it, it was all gone and it was all my fault! I nearly cried like an emo anime character.

I swear, Skyrim needs a character selector similar to Mass Effect's career selector instead of just a list of saves. Would it really have been hard to do that?
That's absolutely horrible man. I have been backing up my saves for Skyrim a lot because I did something very similar with Fallout 3. Clearing out some save files to make space for a new character so my buddy could play... and deleted my main save. 35 hours is a huge loss, but i had just under 400 hours on the save. I couldn't even motivate myself to start a new game after that.

The only thing I can think of is my Killzone2 savefile. Did the entire game on Elite difficulty, aside from the final battle with Radec, then my PS3 went the way of the dodo and showed me a yellow light.

Got a refurbished 60Gb model from Sony after this, played through Fallout3 and tried to do the Killzone thing again, and what do you know, with only 3 missions left to do, my PS3 died again.

Never bothered trying to get that Platinum on KZ2 after that, oh yeah, I also kind of lost my Fallout3 data, but I was done with that boring game anyway.

( Killzone2 savefiles were locked and you couldn't export them so... yeah )

These hard drive failures make me wonder how long it will take until we have our saves backed up in a cloud on consoles.

I don't know about Xbox360 ( as I don't own one ), but if you are a member of the Playstation Plus thing, you get cloud storage to backup your savefiles, even locked ones, I think.

A friend of mine in the US managed to get three years of PS+ a few days ago with some store for 50~ bucks because they made a printing error in one of their brochures, or something akin to this.

You know, the idea that the company that builds the product making users pay a huge fee so the failure of their technology doesn't result in huge amounts of time and effort vanishing doesn't sit right with me for some reason.

I put hours of dedication into my Viva Piñata garden. And when the save file corrupted I was livid I directed my frustration towards my dear pet dog in the form of verbal abuse. That was terrible the dog wasn't responsible for a shoddy memory drive.

My ray gun in Silent Hill: Homecoming? Shit, no more killing Si'ams in one hit for me... or is that a good thing?

Mine is also be a Pokemon. My first Pokemon was a Venusaur who was with me through Pokemon Red and Gold. Then one day my Gold save was just gone. A lot of brave Pokemon lost their lives that day. Venusaur, Arcanine, Hitmonchan, Snorlax, I will never forget you guys.

I'm actually at least as excited as I am disappointed when a save file of mine (on Elder Scrolls or similar, that is) gets erased because it means I get to create a whole new character to get invested in. Technically I could've done that at any time, but that's not how I do things.

I'm not sure, honestly. I think my biggest video game-related loss was when my PS2 fell off the shelf while it was running and the laser thingie burned some of the data on my Bully disk. The cutscenes towards the end of the game never functioned again, and the sound would cut out at random times. It was ruined.

But that's not really the sort of thing this thread's going for...I guess it'd be Shadowmere. The only companion I've ever liked, in Oblivion or Skyrim. She's invaluable and I'm pretty attached to her. I don't really get sentimentally attached to objects in real life, either (except my guitar) so it certainly doesn't happen in a video game.

Over 300 hours and all 251 pokemon in my Silver cartridge, all gone thanks to the flash memory's battery going flat.

This is a tough one... there is a lot of this kind of stuff I treasure. My ME1/ME2 saves are definitely on the list. There are a bunch of them and it would be impossible to replay all those different play throughs now.

Speaking of Pokemon, I still have every Pokemon I have ever caught on Red/Blue/Yellow stored on my Pokemon Stadium cartridge and my Red cartridge. The Stadium cartridge's Bill's PC is 20/20 in all of the PC slots lol.

My Sonic 3 & Knuckles saves would be devastating to lose as well. I have all of the Super Emeralds on Knuckles, Sonic, Sonic & Tails and Tails... so much hard work XP

I think right now it would be the house I've built in Minecraft. It's just lovely and I don't think I'd be able to do it again if I had to start again from the ground up. It's built into a hill (basically like a Hobbit Hole) and the shape and layout of the interior was based on the hill. I imagine if I dug in again I'd get off somewhere along the way and it would all just not be right.

Me and my friend made the 'dev mod' knife between us in dead island (requires five diamonds). Then one day he threw it at a zombie and it slid under a mobile home looking thing in the jungle.

We were both very sad :<
