Does the music you listen to reflect who you are?

Example: I listen to bands like Slayer, Heaven Shall Burn, Nevermore, Slipknot and Deadlock

If you pictured me based on this info alone, I can probably say I'd be the opposite of what you think I am... I'm actually a very friendly guy who usually wears all white and has an optimistic view on life...

"Disasterpiece" by Slipknot is my absolute favourite song...

...I guess that in the deeper recesses of my mind I'm darker than I show to the outside...

EDIT:Lol... I guess making a thread and then immediately sleeping without checking on it is a bad idea...

When I made this thread I was more playing on the premise of "Take one prominent aspect of your musical tastes and play on the stereotypes of it", not "Your music can be defined by one word! Choose carefully! DOITNAO!!!"

I listen to all sorts of music.

I like jazz

I like metal (as long it actually has a melody and isn't some douche screaming for 20 minutes).

I love alternate music

I love electronic-rock

I love classical music

What type of person am I?

I'm me. Music is only one facet of my life.

Wonder what that says about me?

Although I listen to so many different types of music it's probably impossible to typecast me, which is good, because if something like music can dictate to a person how to dress and act....they really need to discover who they are or be younger than 16.

I mostly listen to classical music...so I don't know what that's supposed to mean to you. I'm a nice person, I have a lot of friends, I act weird sometimes, my favorite humor is dark humor (i.e. dead baby jokes), and spend my free time at the computer, at the piano, in front of the T.V., or with a notebook in my lap.

Nothing defines me, I watch everything through a computer screen from a distance and people make me nervous. I'm going to go outside for a bit...

I listen to pretty much everything. The music I enjoy the most is rock and alternative; it gives me a lot of energy and the raw intensity of the drums and guitar riffs are awesome.

My most listened to kinds of music are "emo-sounding" Japanese Visual Kei
and super happy J-pop
Actually I'd say that describes me pretty well.

I've been a fan of Power Metal for a while, but lately I've preferred heavier stuff, like Five Finger Death Punch, Sevendust, and Disturbed.

Still, my favorite album is No World Order, by Gamma Ray, and my favorite song is Rebellion in Dreamland, also by Gamma Ray.

I guess my music kind of reflects my personality. I'm a geek with a bit of a no bullshit attitude.

I like classical, video game remixes, heavy metal and a little power metal but just a little (really only Avantasia, I don't really care for the other power metal bands).
If you think that means antisocial nerd that loves games but doesn't really play any because he doesn't have anything to play them on you are right.

I sure hope it doesn't reflect who I am or what will happen to me. But more seriously...
This certainly could have described me a few months ago, or even recently.

I guess it kinda does.

I like calm music with a nice message that let me reflect on certain aspects of life. That would reflect my usual calm, collected exterior.

But sometimes i like to put on some heavy metal and just let my speakers pound it at me at a high volume(don't read too much into that, please). That would reflect my inner anger that sometimes get to burst out in a fit.

Apart from that i'm very obsessed with love, so when i'm in that mood i can play love songs around me for a whole day. Say whatever you want, it's the truth and i'm not ashamed of it :D

Music can tell you plenty about a person.

I sincerely doubt you "love classical". You probably don't even know the first thing about classical. I am more than willing to bet that you could not identify the source of that arrangement of Beethoven's melody without wikipedia, nor could you identify your favorite interpretation of that piece. If you could, then color me not really impressed, but judging by the particular video you posted, I doubt you would know the first thing about the genre you claim to love.

Feh.

I think my music definitely reflects who I am. I'm a pretty happy person and I tend to like a lot of alternative. (I.e. BNL, White Stripes, Cage the Elephant) I know it reflects my current mentality at least because for a bit in college I was pretty moody and my music of choice was much heavier and way more emotional. Now, I just want something that makes me feel good and isn't too serious.

I also listen to a lot of bluegrass because I grew up culturally listening to it and learning how to play the banjo. It definitely helps reflect me.

I also like my fair share of rock, pop, country, classical.

i could see in some instances. Its a nurture vs nature argument I guess.

me personally, I'll listen to just about anything, but certain music buts me in a certain mood more then it reflects who I am.

I listen to mostly rock and roll and jazz. I generally listen to anything with a good beat or a good meaning (excluding rap, metal, and emo punk) but those are my top two genres I listen to. So I think it describes me pretty good.

I prefer rap music.

Before I explain myself, I invite any and all folks to note down what they think of based on that sentence alone. Don't let the whole thing about making incorrect first impressions stop any of you - I'm honestly intrigued at what others have to say about this.
