None of you know what you are taking about except for MusicalFreedom.

Disturbed aren't metal, they are Hard Rock. Killswitch aren't Emo, and Emo isn't MCR or Fallout Boy. Wikipedia will tell you everything there is to know about what Emo was, a subgenre of Hardcore Punk. Metallica can't play anymore to save their lives, and weren't even that creative to begin with. Death Metal lyrics are almost never about Satan and grunts can be understood fine if you get used to it, or just go read the lyrics somewhere. Finally, Metal isn't just smashing drums and power chords. If you bothered to delve more than 2 songs into the genre, you'd know that. A lot of you should just never be allowed to talk about music, ever. You make me sick.

Go ahead and ban me, I only registered to tell you idiots that you don't know what you're on about. Now, start throwing half-witted insults at me.
Ehhh... Be quiet. Disturbed are metal, moreso than they are hard rock at least. Metallica can play, they just seem to have lost all writing talent. You're also incredibly insensitive about The Rev and you're a massive elitist.

I'm all for letting people have their own opinions, but you can't be arrogant enough to go around telling people what to think and insult people for thinking differently. There's no need to insult people at all, and anyway, you probably wouldn't get any massively negative responses if you didn't at that last paragraph.

I'm sure I've mentioned it somewhere in this thread before but I feel compelled to say it again.

I despise Metal. I really do.
Care to share why?
It's kind of a grey area for me; I thought it was to do with a combination of the RARRRGGHHH screaming, the way the guitars sound and the whole aethestic (black, flaming skulls, whatever). But people have told me it's not all about the screaming and power chords. I guess it boils down to when I hear a Metal song I just don't like how it sounds. Maybe Metallica and all the other Metal bands I've heard are just crap, I don't know.

I'm more of a electro/indie person.

Theeeeere's yer praahblem.

It's obviously down to personal taste and all, but Metallica really are on the dire end of the scale.

On the other hand, this is something really fucking tasty:

I doubt many non-metal fans will like it, but I think it's an absolute tune :)

God I hate threads like this, mostly because they draw out all the people who feel it necessary to say they hate metal because they think it sounds terrible/the musicians are all untalented assholes. And then they say they love listening to something that sounds like a spastic attacked a keyboard and a synthesizer.

There is a lot of fantastic metal out there, if people would actually try to look for it instead of dismissing the whole genre after hearing one bad song the musical world might be a better place. Or I might just be a little less hostile to people when they open their fucking mouths.

It's fine. The genre is expanding which helps me find a lot more I enjoy in it. Some of it is really quite bland, but I guess that applies to most major genres.

Not liking how a style of music sounds is a perfectly fair reason not to be into it. I guess not more explanation is needed than that.

You can't choose what music your body will react positively or negatively to, enjoy whatever makes you feel something!

As for me... I will love the metal till the day I die.

I seem to be constantly defending my beloved metal against people who say it's a joke, which makes me sick. I love metal and I probably always will, and am very proud of it.

Hmmm can't say I care too much for new metal. Metal by numbers pretty much sums it up. But as in every genre the good stuff is flooded over by the bad. Megadeth is one of the greatest bands ever imo.

This, though it applies to all music. There's the stuff that's absolute garbage and there are gems in just about every sort of music. There's not a genre I can think of (that I've tried) where I can't think of at least one band I've liked at least one song from.

You sir, win points in my book for merely mentioning Kamelot, the greatest band in the world (IMHO, of course).

Kamelot is indeed excellent and a personal favorite of mine (right now there are 4 of their albums in my collection). Given your opinion of them, I think you might enjoy the group Serenity as much as I do:
Their vocalist isn't up to Khan's caliber but damn can they ever craft a tune.

In one of those "it's pretty much 3AM and you are still awake" moments, it struck me that other people might not know about Octavia Sperati, an all-female metal band that doesn't quite fit into any one sub-genre neatly (progressive doom-metal seems to be a common consensus), and while I have mentioned them (in the context of sticking their name on a giant list), I'd never provided examples!

[small]Now I have, whee![/small]

Also I finally got around to listening to Stream Of Passion, a progressive symphonic band founded by the wonderful fellow behind Ayreon - bloody excellent stuff.

[small]But don't take my word for it![/small]

It's defenitly the hardest genre to play, allthough sometimes it just gets too much. But I prefer mostly metal, Distrubed, KoRn, Slipknot, Mustach, Metallica, Killswitch Engage, Evanesence, System of a down so on and so forth. However these are mostly something that metalheads call nu-metal (I don't get it). Apparently (according to metalheads such as AC/DC fans and such bands) this is not real metal, I mean really who the fuck are they to decide?
You make me laugh, metal hard to play

A victor wooten song ANY wooten song is more difficult than metal.

OT: some good some bad, some awesome, just like any genre.

I think what I like as far as metal goes is metal metal. Not death metal, metal core, deathcore, just pretty much black sabbath.

I hate the metal my friend listens too. On the positive side to that is he knows I don't like his metal so if we're ever driving he plays Carmina Burana god chorus music so a trip to taco bell is like going headfirst into the battle of helms deep.

Indeed, metal as a whole is pretty easy on bassists, it tends to be hammer one note for feckin ages really fast. Doesn't mean it's not fun though, and applying metal style lead guitar playing sounds great on the bass (see Billy Sheehan, Cliff Burton, Frank Belo).
