I dislike Metal intensely it all sounds like mindless thrashing and bad lyrics, I can just about stand hard Rock like Motorhead but thats the utter limit. I like my tunes like I like my women, groovy swinging and with a guitar in them. :)
You would be suprised how intelligent certain bands lyrics are if you looked properly.
But in thrash metal you will find nothing intelligent yes,Progressive metal is your best bet :p

And i absolutley LOVE Metal.I find something enjoyable in each of its sub-genres.And i find the hisroty of Black Metal and other extreme bands very fascinating.
You'll not find any other genre in music as Varied and deep as Metal in my opinion. It's fanbase and underground movement is far FAR bigger than the average mainstream listener realises.
Heck, even the average Slipknot lovin' "MAGGOT" would still be rather ignorant.

And it is true,Metal is creeping back into the mainstream..but we're talking very light bands here. It's still going to be consistently dismissed, stereotyped and condemmed becuase its different. But fuck those people right?I confide in the music because its a constant. It's always there at the end of the day no matter how shite the day was,and alot of the lyrics of bands speak to me on a personal level.Sure i like a few other genres outside of metal,in fact i'm listening to Wagner now as i type this(Wagner is also, interestingly an obvious ancestral influence on early heavy metal bands),but none of them will make me feel like..well..me,the way heavy metal does.

EDIT:I have nothing against people who don't like metal. It's an aquired taste, and not for everyone, which makes me prefer it because it seems more special. But people who Stereotype it as just screaming noise and consider people who listen to it trash need to grow the fuck up.

there are about 10 songs that i listen to and thats it all of the other stuff is crap that sounds the same there is only so many times you can yell about something. i dislike the majority of it and dislike the strong advocates of it they just need to stop. Classic rock, alt bands, REM U2 police Beatles etc.

ANOTHER Metal thread? Jeez yes some of us like metal, but everyone's making metal threads like it's going to die tomorrow.

XD!

Alot of people seem to think that actually, which is completley untrue.
But i don't mind the metal threads, just once they are a bit more varied :)

because in Most Metal I've heard, the vocals are Low-pitched roaring or simply shouting at the microphone, which usually ruins the song for me.
Yeah, I'm not a particular fan of that crap either. I don't get the appeal of a song that says things like "I am Satan and I will eat your soul RRROOOOOOAAAARRRRRRR..." or screams random syllables into a microphone...
Ah, the gore Death metal and Black metal. Even if you can't understand it most of the time unless you have listened to the genre(even extensively, as I have. Still don't fucking know what Dying Fetus is roaring about), alot of the time, Death metal deals with the human mind and sociological conditioning. Also, as a Death metal vocalist, I would like to make people aware that alot of us(Including myself) can sing other genres rather well, we just prefer growling.

That being said, It IS an acquired taste. The satan stuff is usually black metal and gore is usually Brutal Death metal. I suggest some cynic or Atheist to get you into progressive Death metal or even older technical Death metal is quite good.

Alot of it is even understandable:p

OT: I listen to alot of music but metal takes the cake, as it were, for me. I just find the technical brilliance of it extremely attractive. Me, indie, old rock, classical, jazz and blues get together rather fine. It all just depends on the band. Some are phenomenal and some are not. End of story.

I love metal. Especially stainless steel. That stuff is so easy to cook breakfast with. Though I have a soft spot for titanium, as ironic as that sounds. (oh, but i don't like the music much)

Some of it is great and makes me espouse appreciation for the genre. Despite that, most of it is shit, like everything else.

It's not really metal, but I've been on a huge Jim Thirwell / Foetus kick recently:

It's kinda falls outside of reliable genre classification, but watch it, it's fucking rocking. If it's seems like this guy does way too many drugs, it's because he does.
A fan of Foetus I see, good stuff; Gash is an amazing album.

I love metal... but more... erm... hardcore metal I guess... Disturbed seems more like hard rock to me... I'm not a huge fan of them, and for some reason all their songs sound exactly the same to me... kinda like the whole british punk genre...

I never like it when someone yells at me.

Even sick guitar solos and raging drums don't help.

Damn, it seems like I'm the only one here who enjoys the heavy or fast shit, but its understandable, because it does take a keen ear to be able to enjoy the organized chaos metal has to offer.

When metal music is good it's sublime but when it's bad it's the most embarrasing genre ever!

As for my fave metal acts i gotta go with fear factory and killswitch engage both lead singers can hold a tune when called to instead of just screaming or growling!

Metal's alright, though the rust does tends to rub into your clothes after a while. I'm more of a gemstone person, myself.

Really? All of them? Even Enya? C'mon, everybody has a sound that they dislike. What's yours?
It sounds like I'm exaggerating, but I swear. I like from Meshuggah to polka music. I love the sound of the bagpipes and I could listen to Beethoven forever. I rock out to the Beastie Boys, Strapping Young Lad, and Chuck Mangione. Even Enya. There are good and bad bands in every genre. There are even some emo bands that I like. I mean, there are just some bad bands that I don't like (Cannibal Corpse, Flo Rida) but there's always good bands out there in every genre.

I think it's a bit shit really.

I like Rage Against the Machine but that's about it.
Not metal. At least not to my knowledge.

But still supremely awesome.
iTunes says Rap/Metal. But then again iTunes lists Late of the Pier as 'Pop'. Lol.

But yeah, supremely awesome indeed.

EDIT: Actually iTunes says 'alternative' whatever that means. Someone else must have said it was rap/metal.
Damn all these genres!

I swear there is like a new genre for every band going?
Too right :(. Don't listen to the genre police. Not everything needs to be categorized and pigeonholed.

OT: Yeah, I leikz teh metulz. But not just by itself, I listen to a lot of other music too, other wise I find myself getting bored of metal pretty fast.

I don't ever remember liking it and I doubt I ever will.
But my taste in music includes the old Sonic games soundtrack, so it's a bid of an invalid opinion.

Metal for me is a sometimes genre.

I can listen to Opeth or Dream Theater all day but stuff like Lamb of god, Arch Enemy, In Flames and so on are a bit to much.

I like the technical side of things (hence, Opeth and DT) but there has to be some sence of melody. For example, the band called The Faceless are tech as a mother fucker but thats all it is.. Very little sence of melody..
