It's over-rated shit that has too many threads asking what people think about it.
Actually, The Escapist is one of the few communities where metal is popular. It's an extremely underrated genre.

It's good, but most people grow out of it - it is mainly a fuel for angsty teens. Not that it's bad, but it doesn't have a strong lasting appeal past this stage in life.
Well, I listen to a lot of metal that isn't really all that angsty at all...

This has been bugging me. Almost everybody out there who says that they hate these bands at one time or another loved them. I for one was a big KoRn fan when Take a Look in the Mirror was released, and although I don't like them any longer they don't deserve the hate that they're getting. I've never *loved* Slipknot, but I like a few of their songs and say that they too don't deserve the collective hatred toward them.
Too right, mate. The hatred that some groups attract is just ridiculous. I figure that if you don't like it, don't listen to it. Going online and flaming them for the sake of it just seems childish, like the people who slag the Jonas Brothers without realising that their music is aimed squarely at another demographic.

Just wanted to know what you kind chaps think of this spiffy tune.
Spiffy, indeed. It's always good to hear a relatively new sound in the metal genre.

I'm not a fan of those genres, either, but don't write them off. There is some great music to find in the rap and hip-hop genre if you take some time and look for it. You really shouldn't close any doors when it comes to music because you'll be missing out on some great artists.

My sentiments exactly.

I like all types of music. Metal can be good, but for me only in moderation. The genre I listen to mostly would be rock.

Part of the reason I like Slipknot so much is due to the fact that so many people actually go out of their way to hate on them.

I like Dragonforce a bit for their long guitar riffs, particlularly Through The Fire and The Flames.

Not very keen on other metal, for a variety of reasons:
1. Many are just about Satanic things or whatever (I'm a Christian, so I take offense at that.)
2. The screaming in the songs quickly drives me insane.
3. Many of the singers are drug addicts or abuse some sort of substance (Yes, I know that's profiling, but it's mostly true).

Myself? I'm fond of Christian music and most of its sub-genres, but my absolute favorite would have to be Instrumental Music (that's music without words, in case you're thrown off by big words).
Not all metal is satanic. See Protest the Hero, As I Lay Dying, and August Burns Red.
Notice how I said MANY are satanic? I did not say all of them were.

Still, I like my Instrumental music.

You don't have to go on those threads you know. No one's forcing you to.

Fair enough, but there's plenty of creative stuff out there.

Correction- most "metal" bands aren't satanic. Normally they're categorized into "black" or "death" genres and subgenres. There's other non-screamy, non-satanic metal out there.

My opinion is that you're letting bands like Slipknot stereotype the genre into something that it's not. Plenty of death/black/hardcore metal bands do clean vocals. Come Clarity by In Flames is just one example.

And I'd like to see some proof for your third remark. It's definitely profiling, and it's not true. Classic rock stars were abusers; metal, not so much. Sure, big acts like Ozzy, Megadeth, and Pantera had trouble with it, but that doesn't mean every band out there snorts coke right before a show.

That said, Rody Walker may come out on stage drunk, but he can still sing better than 90% of vocalists of any genre.

Bland, boring, repetitive. All of today's music is about image regardless of genre.

Good bands:
The Doors
Jimi Hendrix
Zeppelin
Beatles
Rush
Primus
Mr. Bungle (I know, no one knows about them.)
Tomahawk
Peeping Tom
Louis Armstrong (Probably oldest favorite.)
Cream

I'm sure I have more but I can't think of ny right now.
