American Airline security is kind of a giant clusterf*ck right now due to the fact that a terrorist bomber was able to get explosives on board of a U.S flight leaving from Holland to Detroid.

It has been widely regarded that the security measurements taken today at modern airport is not good enough to ensure security.

Some airport to counteract these type of flaws have purchased Body Scanners [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Security_scan] that are able to display a vague picture of the subject in question naked.

What is your opinion on this?
Some oppose these machines and claim that it violates personal integrity while some others claim that this is the only way of insuring that no explosives get on board of an airplane.

What are your thoughts and ideas regarding naked body scan? Would you have no problems letting someone seeing you naked through a scanner?
Do you think it imposes a threat to personal intergrity?

EDIT: I read that some airports that have Body Scanning allows for passengers that do not wish to be body scanned to be frisked instead.

EDIT2: This

I think the airport security has gotten a little out of hand... thankfully I'm white enough for them not to suspect me for anything.

Go for it, why not? If you don't like it then fuck you it's for your own safety.

I don't really see how you could have a problem with it.
I mean, it doesn't show anything. And in some ways, it is more dignified than being frisked.
Personally, I'd much rather someone had a vague idea of what I look like naked than be groped by a dude in rubber gloves.

Unless they post naked pictures of me on the internet. Then I gotta punch someone

I guess some people might be self-concious about it, but as already said, it's for their safety so... yeah, I'm for it.

It only displays a silhouette. An ugly silhouette which has apparently crawled out of the Uncanny Valley.

And unfortunately, if we don't take such drastic measures, the question is not "will terrorists hijack and/or blow up a plane again?" - it's "when will they hijack and/or blow up a plane again?". So i say yes.

Geez... I think its overkill, and for some this would be really awkward I'm sure... Luckily I don't fly a lot, and I doubt I will at all in the near future, so yah...

To be fair, the world seems to have gone a little mucky lately. America you can understand, so yeah if they had them at the major airports in the US. But man, what would be the use of one of those things in Birmingham airport, if I just wanna go to Ibiza for a fortnight.

Its a little extreme but they are their for your safety, so I don't really see the problem with it.

Well, for men it could feel awkwardbecause they may feel the people who can see would judge their size of down there, but really, it's for saftey, so no one should complain.

Apparently nobody has to see the scan. They have software that can spot abnormalities (hidden objects).
If so, I wouldn't mind although it would be awkward.

I don't really care if some random person sees me naked, and that isn't even a clear picture, so if it's a faster way then go for it.

EDIT:

And the person watching thousands of people go through it, probably won't care about your junksize all that much.

I dont mind, What bothers me is all the other security measures that can be avoided by using full body scans. For example I flew to Europe to see family for Christmas, and we could not use the entertainment systems because of the changes to the FAA's rules. Besides... thats only vaguely naked, it would take a very insecure person to take offence to people looking at that picture.

I wouldn't mind one bit it's for our protection plus it's probably a lot better than a rubber glove and some KY jelly

On one hand I want to argue that security will never be "good enough" to completely stop bombers, then again, I am inclined to say that there is little harm in their inclusion (beyond longer delays, and the cost of implementation at a high degree of consistency.)

If I beat the lax security at small town america, I am already "past" security when I get to a large air port hub.

But lets say it DOES keep people from getting on planes with bombs. Have you ever seen a crowded airport terminal at 6am? Victims as far as the eye can see, and far better packed than you could ever manage on an airplane. All you have to do is walk into a lobby with a bomb - with none of this security nonsense in the first place.

ALL of THAT aside - why won't they start bombing other crowded events? Weddings, megachurches, school cafeterias...

I see the inconsistencies and I can only come to one conclusion - security is largely an illusion. A way to make travelers FEEL safe, and a way to keep those people on the cusp of 'doing something' from doing something.

There's an option that allows people to be frisked?

There's going to be a lot of lonely old people and creepy weirdos who are going to choose that no matter what.

including me, mister handsome security guard, now frisk me dammit.
