Do you seriously think you can prevent Shaq from getting on a plane if he wants to?
Buh?! Because he's muslim that likes superman symbols and basketball? I quite honestly have no idea what this comment was meant to mean o.0
Oops, I forgot to quote the person I was referring to, who wanted to ban all Muslims from mass transit. Sorry for the confusion.
Lol, k - that begins to makes sense now ;)
That article is full of mistakes. Says that he's been active from 1993 to the present. Anybody seen Shaq do anything lately? Stupid Wikipedia.

Anyway, the people looking at the screen are in a completely different room. They can't identify you, they just see various anonymous white outlines walking past. Although I'll bet my biscuits that the people looking at the screen will rate penis size as well as body shape.

For myself, I don't mind, but I have no body modesty, and zero reason to attempt to bring something illicit or illegal onto an airplane. I mean, if some schmucks want to goggle at my junk, let 'em; I'd rather charge an 'entertainment fee', but I think it's be a tough sell, in the middle of an airport.

That said, I do think airport security has gotten well beyond the point of absurd, but it's an unfortunate response to the things that people are doing in order to make their political message heard. If we could all just play nicely, leave the religious, political and socio-economic warfare, fighting and terrorism behind, none of this would be necessary. It's a sad truth, but I doubt humanity is going to up and stop killing each other, any time soon.

It might be invading privacy, but I think it's better than airport attendants stripping you naked or something like that.

some others claim that this is the only way of insuring that no explosives get on board of an airplane
How is this going to find the bomb Habib shoved up his ass before boarding the plane?

All this will do is make airport security complacent and force the terrorists to get more creative.

And if they start doing cavity searches before you board a plane, well I think if it gets to that point people will just stop flying.

I think it's not really a bad thing, as I don't really care if I get seen naked in a blurry, somewhat obscure, black and white photo. If it's going to save lives I'm all for it.

Asks yourself this. "How much C-4 can a person hide inside their vagina?"

Answer: more than enough to blow up a plane.

All these body scanners will do is make the security more complacent and the terrorists more creative.

My only question about this, beyond whether or not it would actually prevent anything (or at least, for very long), is what precise freedom this is taking away from us? It looks like a damn alien with cloth-fold-shaped love handles. How is somebody seeing a mannequin that happens to be you under a scanner invading your privacy?

The only reason I don't particularly like this idea is because I doubt it will help anything, not because I think it's overly invasive. Eyes don't bother me nearly as much as hands.

Somebody will find a way to get through this, it'll be a huge amount of money spent for an intrusion of privacy and an illusion of safety. The last system wasn't faultless and this one won't be either.
Too true good sir.

This is verging dangerously on the authoritarian.
Exactly, now what people should do, is instead of having these things implemented and wasting so much money for something which is really only an infringement on people's privacy, they should get everyone who wants them (not thinks they are a good idea, but actually actively WANTS them to be put in) establish a new sub-country in some remote place ... like madagascar and just establish a system of government that panders to their desire to be caged in without realising it. That way it doesn't impose on people who want a democratic society FOR THE PRIVACY AND FREEDOM but also allows people who want a democratic society, so they can vote to get their privacy and freedoms taken away, to be happy.
...

No I'm being completely serious, send any anti-freedom/privacy people somewhere else, because I wouldn't want them ... "Hey, madagascar, want Michael Atkinson? We'll even pay for Postage&Handling"

They photoshopped the nipples and genitals out of that picture. The actual machine shows every detail.

It's better than being killed, so why the fuck not?
Because it will make airport security less suspicious ("Well we looked at that guy with the turban and crazed expression with the machine and didn't see anything so he must be ok") and the terrorists will just get creative by either hiding bombs inside body cavities or actually implanting explosives *in* their bodies.

That second one would be easier than you might think. Anyone with some basic medical training could do it through a small incision and it's not like they have to worry about if the amateur surgery will eventually kill him from an infection or whatnot.
