Apparently thats a tech demo or something.

I don't really see the need for one. I love the game, its one of my favourites and I've just finished playing through it again on the PSP, but its like remaking a film like 12 Angry Men, Citizen Kane or The Third Man - a remake might make them shinier, but its wouldn't make them any better, and might infact make them worse simply by not living up to your hopes of it.

It isn't coming anytime soon, but if it would come, I'd be psyched. It'd be awesome, as long as they only changed the graphics and gave me the option to turn off voice acting, cause to try to fix something that isn't broke will just make a huge mess. It might be good, but I want Japanese voice actors then, the ones from Advent Children.

But I'm guessing that they'll mess up something, so it's mostly for the enthusiasts. So... Sign me up!

Square themselves had said they're not working on it and besides, the original is available for download on PSN.

Its inevitable Mr. Anderson, if you sell 100 thousand copies of a game that was made nearly a decade ago, in the first week...just imagine the untold riches if they modernised it, more gameplay, more equipment, maybe a few side plots, but not editing it to much, just add stuff on and without a shadow of a doubt, don't change the music.

I seriously doubt they would remake FF7, and I also hope they won't.
They've remade up to VI for handhelds though haven't they? I wouldn't be surprised if they kept doing that throughout the series. I'd be pretty surprised at a PS3 version, all that FMV takes time to make.

And why do you hope they won't?

Some things don't need a remake. It's still a solid game on it's own, for both PC, PS1 and PSN. Why would you spend thousands upon thousands of moneys to remake a game which doesn't need it? FF7 was - for a lot of people - their first Final Fantasy game. Some times you shouldn't remake people's memories because they'll always fall short.

That and I'd much rather they spend their money and development time on new games with new stories to do new things with the genre and series than rehashing old titles.

Final Fantasy VII was one of the good ones that were made but if you ask me only keeping it to the PS3 would not be such a smart idea since the newest one that is going to come out (Final Fantasy XIII) it's for both Main consoles (The 360 and the PS3) So if they do make it; it would make more sense to make it for the 360 and PS3
Could you please supply a link for proof that this is happening? Like, serious proof. As in Square/Enix saying, "We will be remaking Final Fantasy VII for the PS3."

If it isn't an exact quote like that I won't believe it.

Link please.

The remake is NOT happening.

Why? The teams are far too busy with FF13, FF13VS and FF14MMO. SO basically don't expect anything until 2012.

Perhaps once these games are finished they remake FF7. Until then its just a fanboy's dream. Let me explain the purpose of a tech demo. A tech demo is made to show the capabilities of hardware, the tech demo is not a game demo which will be released to the public. Square did a FF6 tech demo for the N64 but that of course never was released. The use of FF7 was to showcase how much stronger the PS3 is in comparison to the PS1, using a game people were familiar with.

right just to inform people if nothing else. yes as most of you have realised it is quite clearly a tech demo. as some of you know that video was out before the PS3 was out. no final fantasy VII isn't being made for the PS3 and wont be any time soon. although squaresoft seriously considered the prospect of a remake when they made the demo. further more, since all the hype from the demo they said that they would be more than glad to make a remake as it would obviously make money regardless, its not like they don't have enough money anyway. the only thing stopping them is time, the designers etc are spendin too much time over final fantasy XIII and may be with it for some time as the game may carry on after the three initial final fantasy XIII games (known as Fabula Nova Crystallis), that have been published to be released. so hopefully they will make a final fantasy VII for the PS3 but im not expecting anything soon.

regarding whether it should be on both platforms it should quite clearly stay a sony exclusive, using the argument that final fantasy XIII will be on both is not good enough. since of the two games being released on next gen consoles the multi platform game is clearly the weaker of the two, final fantasy versus XIII (the PS3 exclusive) seems to be the most interesting and what will be the stronger of the two.

yea but even if the game falls short is it not worth the possibility of a good remake. i know good remakes are few and far between but i would never say no to a final fantasy VII remake, it isnt going to make the original bad whatever it does.

They aren't remaking it, it's a tech demo. Stop dreaming, Square said they don't have any plans for it right now and besides Sony owns the rights.

There was a tech demo made some time ago but that's all it was. There were never any plans to remake FFVII... As much as that pains me. I'd really love a remake of it but Square has no plans for it. If they were to however I would hope it would have a port for the 360 because I don't have a PS3.

Hey why did you steal my reply?^^
You pretty much summed up what I was thinking when I wrote that, so thanks for sparing me the time I guess :)

Because to do a remake on the level of graphics as FF14, or even that Tech Demo, would cost tens of millions of dollars. FF7 was the first real 3D FF. All the past ones were simple 2D graphics. To remake a 2D FF is vastly cheaper than to remake a 3D one.

Did you say that Sony owns the rights to Final Fantasy 7? If so, no they don't SE does. It is their IP. Saying that is as wrong as that guy saying that the FF7 Tech Demo is proof that a remake is coming.

Although I would love an FFVII remake, The chances are slim, Square-Enix has mentioned before they would only consider a remake if the original team was back together and Sakaguchi among several others have since left Square, I'll see if I could find the article stating this.

Your honour, the Prosecution hasn't provided any evidence to back up his claim. I move for the Prosecution to be slapped in the face with a wet haddock.

err, well you see...this evidence right here...ummm...i actually agree with you.

Square Enix. do this. once FFXIII is out, immediately work on remaking VII. It will be better than a sequel, easier to write, and it will literally buy you loads of time to make FFXIV half as incredible. Remake VII and port it to every system you can. LEVERAGE YOUR BACK CATALOG MOAR!!!!

either one of these arguments would be much more convincing if Square hadn't spent a ridiculous amount of money producing a movie sequel.

oh, that reminds me:

Square. when you remake FFVII, plz don't ruin Reno again. thank you.

Speaking of which, I vastly prefered the movie sequel to the actual game.
