Whoops. My mistake. Thought this was something else.
*goes back to spending hours on tv tropes*

OT: In all seriousness, we can all agree that the idea of sex in certain situations and/or by certain people can increase the stimulation for certain people having sex. The key word is "certain". There are people out there who want to fuck bunnies. Certain people, of course, can't do it, so they have their partner dress up as Bugs bunny. Certain people are probably R. Crumb. I can say no more than that.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm late for my D&D weekly session.

I think the boundary between people who are for it and people who aren't is interesting. I think roleplay in general is largely viewed as being childish, and when sexual elements are introduced into childish practice people start gagging.

Play, not only roleplay, seems to be considered a child-only territory. Those who, like myself, still find the opportunity to play once in a while - and I am NOT referring to the kind of cock swinging "gamers" who exclusively play racing games and generic fps to impress their friends - don't seem to be bothered by any kind of experimentation (beyond the boarder between unusual and perverse), roleplay being one of these experiments.

I mean, if we don't play, we'll never learn, surely?

im not sure if i count as a roleplayer, cause my girls and i live in our relationship. Im a mistress and they're my slaves, in and out of the bedroom. They're my slaves at the grocery store, or the movies, or whatever we may be doing. I suppose its some sort of roleplay but its not at the same time.

I swore this was about...um....the less R rated version of roleplaying.

Awkward turtle moment is awkward.

Whatever gets you going, man. You gotta keep that stuff fresh. If that means you have to put on a Burger King mask and give her the double whopper with a friend, then that is what you have to do!

I think that's the problem, in short. When people hear roleplay, they imagine the specific examples fed to them by (here it comes) The Media, whereas it encompasses anything from pack-order sexual heirachy, to that weird dress up thing, to ritual sex.

And it strikes me as odd that I think of sexual cosplay as weirder than pack order. Maybe I should shuffle my priorities.

I like to think that my girls and I arent roleplayers, we're just living our lives how we see fit, and how we enjoy it. Roleplay to me, atleast sexually, is something that exists only in the bedroom, its a "sometimes" type of thing, not a way of life. Because a way of life isnt taking on a role youre not usually in.

Thought this was going to be a thread about the less sexualized, more nerdy roleplay world.
Same here, I thought this was some D&D discussion or something, this is a little weird.

I'm cool with it, as long as it doesn't turn into the I AM ARG version of Roleplaying. I'd only roleplay as a guy, and only if it floats her boat.

A most respectable lifestyle. Good to see at least a handful of people aren't consigned to the mundane.

"Weird" is a word used copiously by humans to draw attention away from their own creativity and emotions, and to put them on some social standing amongst the hollow husks of penis jokes and cold betrayal that make up the average scumbag.

I think roleplay is one slight improvement on this philosophy, but it all boils down to not being BORING.

The nerdy version of it is this.

[sub]Sorry for the bad quality[/sub]

It doesn't really bother me and so far I haven't met anyone who has ever wanted it.

I do mean in a sexual context. I have no interest in it personally. I have told my girlfriend on numerous occasions that I will never do roleplay, and luckily she was in agreement. We have had jokes about like a detective/forensics roleplay though since she wants to major in forensics. However none of that stuff is serious at all. It just seems weird to me. So what do you think of it?
And so, with the dragon slain, our hero was able to rescue the fair maiden from the shackles of torment, which had been rather chafing indeed. After releasing and embracing her, he proclaimed "Let's do it on the lich's evil throne.". The princess was shocked...though not entirely without approval, and so she decided upon "But what would father think?" as a response, keeping in mind that he WAS a lowly squire. However, he only smiled and replied "He would find it rather kinky, I think.", followed by sweeping her off her feet and-

I'm sorry, were you saying something? He rolled a natural 20 and I have to follow through.

Hmmm. It seems that the "older" folks on here aren't against it. I'm 27 and my wife and I do it probably once a month or so. But we are also into some kink so it's part of a larger picture. Trust me, when you have your wife rigged up as you walk around her with a Cat o Nine Tails, role play is something small.

Not a bit fan of it, but not opposed to it either because most of the chicks who are into weird shit are, and I'm totally into chicks who are into weird shit so I'm willing to do it as long as I dont have to dress up as anything.

Its okay when you have a safeword.
As someone who enjoys BDSM... I cannot stress enough the importance of a safeword, regardless of context (just be sure to have a contigency if gags in involved...).

OT: I enjoyed a bit of roleplay, though not much of it, just variations of SM scenarios. Haven't done any in... years... *grumble*

ugh, roleplaying. how about you write your own book if you like a certain made story enough? seriously, you could actually make money writing childrens stories (assuming most the stories roleplayers create are quite immature and childish but they don't even realize it)
I would not want my kids reading a book written using this kind of RP as it's story...
what kind of roleplaying are we talking about; dungeons and dragons everyone create a stereotypical LOTR character as we journey to defeat evil roleplaying? ...or i dress a hooker up as lara croft and have her talk dirty to me with a british accent and then some playtime?
There's a lot more to the former type of roleplaying than simply the LOTR-type setting and characters, I suggest you check out some of the RP's on this site in the Forum Games and RP section to see the variety there. Settings I've played have included modern day with magical powers, zombie apocalypse and a near-future war between America and Europe. Characters I've played have included a married solider who's losing his skill with age, a seven year old girl who can become invisible and a talking cat.

The reason me and alot of people RP is that it allows to us to creatively write without having to commit to finishing an entire novel before anyone can read it, and having other people around means you never quite know what's going to happen next, even if you're the GM.

OT: As for the actual type of roleplaying this thread is about, I don't really have a strong opinion on it.

I thought this was going to be about table top roleplay, live action of rpg in general.
OT- I can't really say since I never experience it myself so I can't have a proper opinion on it.

Guess someone didn't read the OP. Tsk tsk...

I guess I've done a little roleplaying before. We pretended we were married and we wanted to fool around without waking the kids up. I don't know if that counts or not.

If you're curious, it's because we were both hopeless romantics and hormonal. Don't look at me like that.

yes, i know there's other types of role playing (but i never knew there were role playing threads for plots that seem like a syfy original movie).
