On the computer I'm typing this on, I'm using Vista. However, on my laptop I have XP.

I believe that my first OS was Windows 95 or something along those lines.

xp, gentoo which i don't use much cos this is my gaming system and an ms-dos floppy for programming my joystick on this computer. on my netbook ubuntu soon to be replaced with gentoo because gnome runs like treacle at absolute zero on it. my phone runs maemo linux too. :D
had a laptop running vista that cooked itself to death and it was painful and irritating in many devious ways.
oh and first OS i owned would be win95, first used was probably RISC OS or acorn MOS.

theres a linux distro or window manager or something thats supposed to emulate the look of copland OS, don't think its very complete though.

hey guys, simple question: which operating system do you use?
i had the idea of this thread because i'll switch from windows xp to windows 7 tomorrow and i'm very sad about it. 9 years ago i started using pc's, and i started with win xp, and i never used anything else.

now you. what do you use? what was your first OS?
My work is largely in *nix, but at home i have windows vista. and i can say that i don't hate it. i have windows 7 (64 bit) waiting to be installed, but i haven't bothered.

my first OS would have been whatever was on the Apple IIe -- which i believe was a progenitor to DOS or maybe its first incarnation.

Well I started way back on DOS and other old CLI based operating environments, only really started regular use with DOS 6.22 followed by Windows 3.1 and 3.11 for networks :p

I've been through every Windows OS since then skipping over ME and Vista cause they're dreadful (Also leaving aside CE and the server editions because I had no need for them). I've also been through many other OS' such as BeOS and countless forms of Linux. Right at this moment I'm straightening out a machine for an Icaros install; Linux based OS compatible with Amiga software at the API level? I'll have me some of that lol

Right at this moment I'm on 7 64bit for the most part, suits me for everything really so I have no need for anything else :p

I currently use Windows Vista 64-bit. It's a great OS, haven't had any problems with it once I got the service packs updated within the first week. (before that, Explorer frequently crashed!) So I guess I'm glad I got it late, to let Microsoft get the kinks out.

The first OS I've used.... DOS? Or something resembling DOS, not sure if it was DOS. The first OS I used with a graphical user interface (not entirely text based) was Windows 95. Good times.

I switched from XP to Win7 as soon as it was available (actually a few days before. Sometimes students actually get some benefits from paying these fees).
Before that I used (from latest to first):
Windows Me (I was one of those maybe five people who never had a problem with it)
Windows 95
GEM/TOS (The graphical interface of Atari St2600)

Oh, and some time during my use of XP, I also started using Windows Mobile 6.1

I was born 1991, therefore started with Windows95 transitioning into Win98 into WinME into WinXP. Now I want Win7.
