Hmmm... Ubuntu 10.10 on my D620 lappy (soon most likely Xubuntu 11.04), Ubuntu 10.10 on my GX520 (Xubuntu 11.04), Win7Ent 64-bit on my i7 2600 rig, simply because it's a trial version and I ain't gonna shell out $205 for a OEM version of 7Ultimate SP1 [http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=375_974&products_id=16917], let alone $369 for a RETAIL copy of 7Pro SP1 [http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=375_974&products_id=12878] or $379 for 7Ultimate SP1 [http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=375_974&products_id=12933]!
And those are the CHEAPEST prices for those 3 online here in Aus (can't exactly qualify for a Student discount, but I can for the Enterprise Trial).
you should see if you can get a teacher to sign you up for the... crap, I cant remember what its called, student.... something. But if you take any technology courses or you can be signed up for free MS software like windows 7 professional or access, just not the microsoft office

Mac Os. Yes that's right i use a mac and i like it.Since i design things and do some video editing, i wouldn't want anything else, just an upgrade to Final Cut Pro.
That's always struck me as a really weird divide. I C#/XNA program for games (not professionally), but someone else handles all the artwork. It seems bizarre that one essentially can't get both the full capabilities of the XBLA/Steam coding languages and the art rendering tools necessary to make the artwork for the game without owning two conflicting OS. Odd.

I use Windows 7, ofc. I'm not chuffed about Windows 8's changes to their coding languages, it's quite irritating to make the effort to learn a language just to have Microsoft arbitrarily change the language they're plugging.

Windows Vista.
I really don't see why everyone hates/hated on Vista so much, its really not as bad as everyone makes/made it seem.
Its memory overhead was far, far too large for the standard hardware of its time and astronomically larger than that of XP. When people upgraded from XP they were largely disappointed by the slowdowns they hadn't experienced on XP, which their hardware could actually handle. There's nothing wrong with Vista per se, but it was very daft of Microsoft to release such a hardware intensive OS at that time.

If I was doing a TAFE/CIT (Uni/college) course, then I could qualify for the Student Discount. I can't afford (Centrelink DSP) to do another IT course as it'll be just for the paper saying I can use the skills I've been (basically) self-teaching myself over the past 15-16 years (and I'm 23).
I do technically qualify for the 7Enterprise trial as it's to test if it's be worth rolling out on my systems (albeit, intended for a big business, but details).

this is literally a free full version of windows, its for a student to familiarize themselves with or something, I wish I could remember what the program is called but its not a trial, its the full version of these ms programs, just bug your teachers about it, altho it might be something only at certain schools or here in the US or something

Windows XP 32bit

I don;t plan on updating. Vista came out and I thought fuck that. Now 7 has come out and people I know say it's good. I'm going to wait until XP can't run anything new.

Mac OSX 10.6.7.
Because I hate Windows and I don't trust any of the various Linuxes enough to not damage my computer.
It's easy to use, has terminal, a great call centre, it (so far) runs everything I want it to, and I find it much more intuitive than anything else I've tried.
It also gives me much more control over everything.
Finally, it has some great free development tools that surpass anything that Windows has thrown at me.

Windows XP. Don't wanna change.
EVER.

Also, I do not want to buy a new comp, just upgrade to the newer graphics cards, processors, etc.

Windows 7 64 bit. It runs great, never crashes and i don't have to reinstall it every 3 months because it gets slow (looking at you XP), plus it's the best operating system for gaming right now.

I use Win7 on my stationary computer and Xubuntu on my laptop.

Win7 'cos that's my gaming computer, and Xubuntu 'cos the laptop is old, used to have Vista (hiss!hissss!), and I always wanted to try Linux. I only use the laptop for surfing, reading, and writing anyway. Works out good =)
