Your Own Country

As I played Civilization Revolutions, I wondered: What would most people do if given the chance to start their own nations, cultures, and, indeed, civilizations.

My question is this: How would you run your own nation, and what kind of civilization would you choose to become.

I, for instance, would set up a pure democracy that strives for the happiness of its people, along with being completely socialist, if not communist (of course, not atheist, that'd be silly!).

Libertarian country where the government only provides defense and court systems. Can't force religion, but I'd encourage everyone to be an Atheist since it would obviously help our society grow faster.

A democracy similar tothe American republic, but with three consuls over the whole system. A unanimous vote of the three would override any other decision from the other branches.

Also, a huge army to kill everyone else.

I would simply amass a giant army of unstoppable awesomeness. If I wanted someone I would show my enemy a picture of my army and I would have it, but mostly they would be for security. No one wants to attack the guys that could take on the entire world plus one with only 2% of their forces.

Oh, and noon is nap-time for everyone. Take an hour out of the day to relax. You deserve it.

Run my own nation eh? Well I'd start by cutting all the religious crap out of the politics...and for that matter screw the politics, I'm the sole leader of this nation. I would have a leader appointed in every province to oversee them and of course towns would still have mayors and city counsels to deal with municipal matters. I would raise a large military...but it wouldn't do anything unless another counntry tried to invade, then they would go all out to destroy the opposition and take their country for our own.

My civilization would be a libertarian democracy with government only for defense and courts. The school is a unique system, no private institutions, where every child heads to the same state school until they are 25, given the best education possible, and it is up to them to seize the opportunity. If not, well, when you get out, you're fucked, since then it is competitive, and you have to pass a test of "smart rights" to drive, drink, have children et cetera.

Fascism. Fascism to the Nth degree. I am the only one in charge. I have NO generals, no heads of ANY anything. I run it all. If you want to start a business you come to ME. If you have an idea for a new product you come to ME. If you wish to open a new Dunkin Donuts franchise where you live you come to ME. If at any point I feel you or you company are being Dis-loyal to me, i will shut you down, take all the profits from you and your executives and give it to the underlings. There will be a curfew for ALL. Security will check, double check, and then triple check you. I will have the strength in my arm (Military) at top efficiency at ALL times. Seeing as how I'd rein for about 70 years, every now and again when the country was prosperous i would halt the days work through out the country and the civilization would just go socialize, and get paid a days wages for it. I would also have a very FIT country, no obesity. If you are becoming Obese you will join the military for the duration. Also there would be no excessive use of any drug of any kind. Second offenders in ANY case will be made example of immediately. I will also have no famine. Everyone will have a job, good or bad, you will be employed. If at any point you cannot afford food for your family you will be given a weeks rations at which time you will save your money for JUST the necessities, NOTHING else. How z'at sound?

I would allow my people to choose their own system, with their own leader, after making a permanent law that I am allowed to kill whoever I desire. My mission would be to let my people rule themselves to the best of their abilities by removing anyone who sought to harm those efforts.

My time would either be spent searching for these people, or searching for an apprentice to take up my role upon my death.

So everyone cleans their streets, operates their own dumps, builds infastructure and all the fun things that the government does. To base a government around the ideology of the government having as small an impact on possible sounds kinda silly. Nothing would get done.

As for me, I would have my own Socialist dictatorship, I would strictly enforce Scientology and make sure everyone gets tucked into bed at night.
