That's a long title I know but it works perfectly for me since my moment is pretty much both of these:

It was many years ago and I was at my cousin's house playing his PS2. We were currently playing, me for the first time, Dynasty Warriors 3.

He and I, as Zhang Fei and Zhao Yun respectively, had just finished carving our way through the Yellow Turban rebellion pretty much single handedly and we were feeling like Billy Badasses. The next battle starts and we begin carving our way through hordes of no-name soldiers until a particular cut scene plays introducing the one and only...Lu Bu.

Once the scene finished we saw that he pretty much destroyed the force of Yuan Shu. So we decided to go down there and teach him a lesson. (Keep in mind neither of us had been playing very long. We had no idea who this guy was.)

After about five minutes of running we had finally caught up to him. Five seconds later we were both just sitting there saying "This was such a bad idea!" as Lu Bu had swatted us away like flies, then proceeded to completely steamroll us before we knew what the hell happened.

We learned very quickly from then on that if this guy so much as came within the same quadrant of the map as us we run away, fast!

This ties almost directly into my own "Now it's personal!" moment because from then on I swore I would take Lu Bu down eventually. A few months of stat building later (I didn't go over to my cousins house that often.), I took him on one-on-one with Zhao Yun and, after a few hit and runs, was able to finally kill that bastard. It felt...satisfying.

So, my fellow escapists, do you have any good "OH GOD! THIS WAS A TERRIBLE IDEA!" or "Now it's personal!" gaming moments to share?

Terrible idea: I get these frequently in War of the Roses. I seem to have a nasty case of target fixation. I'll beat an enemy player up with my mace. He tries to disengage and runs off looking for help. Rather than let him go I always find myself pursing him to the ends of the Earth. Bad idea. He finds some friends and all of a sudden I'm dodging arrows and surrounded by six or so unfriendly people with poleaxes.

Although the one time I managed to carve through them and catch my target I felt like quite the digital badass.

Now it's personal: Walking Dead: Episode 3. I won't spoil anything, but when Lily does... that. Anyone who's played the game knows what I mean. I was swearing out loud at the screen. And the game still managed to make me feel like an bastard for what happened next.

Um, I think pretty much everyone had that exact same reaction the first time they ever faced Lu Bu in a Dynasty Warriors game.

For me it was in DW4 at Hu Lao Gate when I encountered him, had no idea how powerful he was and was promptly beaten into the ground.

Initially I just avoided but then I decided that Mr. Pheasant Feathers had to go and a shitload of true musous later I finally brought him down.

I was playing lol recently (normals) and I picked Tryndamere because I was on a losing streak jungling and just felt like playing top. That game the other team fielded five supports. So much cc... no Tryndamere should have to face such pain. I had fun juking them out regardless, but it did not go well for me since our jungler bailed. Sad day.

As for my now it's personal moment, the ending of Paper Mario the Thousand Year Door always gets me going for some reason. I just really want to win for all the characters in the game I've run into.

Let's see.....

Bad Idea: Going into the Wildlife Exploitation Reserve in BL2, with four people my self being the only one high enough for the area to be considered normal. Much swearing happened.

Now it's personal, from the same game, the first boss of said preserve. I played the corresponding Vault hunter from the previous game, so yeah, I was pretty much the same way.

Terrible idea moment:
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker: So I was playing online with my friend for the first time. we both had just gotten the game and, while we both love MGS, the game handles differently when you play with someone else. Now, the last time I played MGS was a couple of years ago and ever since, I've developed a guns-blazing-out kind of style. I blame popular FPS.
Anyway, so we're sneaking by and my friend is lucky enough to go about unseen. I, on the other hand, managed to get a guard's attention. I'll admit I panicked so as soon as the guard approached me, I knocked him out. But by standing up, I got the other guards' attention. I tried to hide at that point; there were too many and we were still sort of new to the game. But of course, hiding after they know you're there is pointless. So my friend had to jump in and try to help me. We couldn't fight them off so we ran away. Eventually they caught up with us, we died and had to restart the whole damn thing.

Now it's personal moment: Whenever I'm playing L4D and a special infected attacks me, takes me down and walks away...and then someone revives me, I go directly after the bastard. Same when it happens to a teammate.
Also, every battle in Odin Sphere, but the whole game was a losing fight anyway.

Bad Idea: Every single time I've saved in far cry 2 than proceeded to shoot someone in the face in the central town. It's fun though.

Now it's personal: Mafia II, you made me clean toilets and color match cigarette boxes to customers. Fuck you. I did not buy a video game to do chores. I don't care how short they were, fuck you.

Skyrim. Second playthrough. Level 7. Decided "Hey, let's go fight that Dragon Priest and get his awesome archery-boosting mask that your other character has. No way that could be a bad decision."

It was a bad decision.

"T-REXAUR! SQUALL, WATCH OUT! SOMETIMES IT'S BETTER TO RUN!"

Me: Nah, I got this.

I didn't have it.

A now-it's-personal moment for me was when I was playing Lost Planet online. 16-man game, I was first and the guy in 2nd started mouthing off about everybody but me, being pretty damn mean about it too. I was not amused. I spent the remainder of the game killing only him. Still got 1st.

Him? Dead last.

Was playing Hidden: Source with my friends, every level has an xbox hidden on it and we decided to stay around there.
I was the only one left alive and I left the room quickly then when I came back the Hidden and come in and sprayed his spray over mine then taken the Xbox and run off laughing maniacally. It was now personal.

As for my bad ideas? I have them all the time but one springs to mind. I am playing LoL in 5v5 and the whole enemy team is in their jungle, we need to do something other than sit here like we had been doing for a while and I was playing Singed......

I ran into their jungle and they used all their abilities and CC on me, ults, summoners everything. I hit /l to laugh and then ran out with all of them chasing me, they chased me all the way out of their jungle through their turret and into mid lane where my team descended upon them as they were near dead from my poison. It was a terrible idea and I died when I went back in to help but it was glorious!

even if it is my first time

I've met an awful lot of the randomly generated bosses in Diablo 2 that sport ridiculously overpowered or annoying mod combinations like Extra Fast, Extra Strong and Cursed. The sensible thing to do with these guys is park them somewhere but I usually make every effort to kill them if it is even remotely possible.

Deciding to Man Mode it at the worst possible times in LoL, Terribly planned tower dives all day. Just because you can initiate a 5v5 under their tower doesn't mean you should. It's a good test of exactly how fed you and your team are at that particular moment though.

Nocturne Jenkins forever.

It really doesn't help that I have far too much inspiring and manly music on my LoL playlist. Must. Resist. Diving urges!

BRB 1v5'ing

As for it's personal moments, I could be a broken record and quote Persona 4 but i'm feeling more original so i'll say the final cases of the first two Ace Attorney games pull this off quite well.

I'll also go for shutting down that insufferable asshole who trash talks everyone in LoL. Love it when i'm jungle at that point. Camping his lane all day long! His trash talking only gets more and more hilarious when he's 1/4 and still quoting his proness

Protip: Wards are a thing.

Getting ganked 4 times and still not learning how to ward is so pro. I must learn from this graet LoL sensay!

This was a bad idea moment: Any time I misjudged my ability to blink in Dishonored or sent a soldier off on his own in XCOM because I was impatient.

It's personal: Probably whenever some jackass starts acting like...well a jackass on Halo Reach matchmaking. I tend to keep an eye out for him and kill him as many times as possible. I keep my mouth shut about it though, though I do smirk to myself, especially if he losses and starts throwing a tantrum.

Hmm terrible idea's
Making ME2 and 3 a watered down version of Gears of War. (Oh and the Final Fantasy-esque starchild in ME3 that broke the existing continuity... yeah we've heard that before)
The combat in Too Human.
The cave, the one cave in DA2. (Oh and the plot, seriously no wonder Templars hate Mages when if a Mage gets stressed they instantly go to Blood Magic. Hard to be a good Mage when all the other ones instantly turn to Blood Magic if their latte is room temperature...)
Final Fantasy XIII. The part in the story where you have to rescue this girl because she's cursed. If she fulfills her destiny she becomes immortal and if she fails she because zombie thingy. So she hands off her destiney to the party and becomes immortal. SERIOUSLY??? YOU CAN OUTSOURCE YOUR FRIKKIN DESTINY? THAT IS BULLS**T!!! I stopped playing at that part because the story became too stupid to follow.

On my part...
Original Xcom. Arming a grenade, deciding not to use it, and putting it back in the backpack. Three turns later BOOM, SHIELD EFFECT, dead soldier. (It was really funny that his shields managed to contain the explosion though).
