Y'know, it's funny, people keep mentioning him (her? Socrates could be a female name, i'm not sure) whenever I say something philosophical, yet I don't know much of him. I've heard of him, but not studied him. Well he chalked it up to a 'great deceiver' of some sort: a less-than-benevolent god. The idea was that, because this entity can control all time and space, as an omnipotent god would be able to, then it could at any moment be tricking our consciousness into believing anything.

He's an ancient Greek philosopher, known for showing how full of shit people were through his questioning method (now known as the socratic method).
