Ancient greek philosopher. Kind of the guy who made it cool to sit in the park and think deep thoughts. (And ask annoying questions)Doclector said:Y'know, it's funny, people keep mentioning him (her? Socrates could be a female name, i'm not sure) whenever I say something philosophical, yet I don't know much of him. I've heard of him, but not studied him. Either I'm the victim of some meme I've never heard of, I'm subconsciously absorbing philosophical teachings, or he's an ancient ancestor of mine or something.
And yes, a bit of a paradox, but you get my meaning.
Descartes. I think therefore I am. You only know that your consciousness exists, because there needs to be a thinker to do the thinker. Otherwise, there's no way to be 100% sure that anything else is real.Manji187 said:Socrates right?Doclector said:The only thing we really, truly know;

Because we could be in the Matrix at this very instant!Danny Ocean said:You can't sum it up in less than ten words.

Well he chalked it up to a 'great deceiver' of some sort: a less-than-benevolent god. The idea was that, because this entity can control all time and space, as an omnipotent god would be able to, then it could at any moment be tricking our consciousness into believing anything.Manji187 said:Because we could be in the Matrix at this very instant!
He's an ancient Greek philosopher, known for showing how full of shit people were through his questioning method (now known as the socratic method).Doclector said:Y'know, it's funny, people keep mentioning him (her? But the way you've phrased it makes it seem a paradox. If we know nothing...then we don't know that we know nothing...then we can think we know something = trouble ensues.
OP: A combination: "It's just a ride....why so serious?"
And yes, a bit of a paradox, but you get my meaning.
I always find myself wondering...would I be like Cypher and choose a hedonistic simulation or painful reality?Danny Ocean said:Well he chalked it up to a 'great deceiver' of some sort: a less-than-benevolent god. Or we could be in the Matrix, yeah.
