This topic was inspired by my dad. We went to go and get flu shots today, and his usual problem came up. He is a retired fire-fighter, has been in life-or-death situations before, has had to clean up after gruesome traffic accidents, WAS PRESENT when an accident happened and 2 people got killed.......But "I would rather run into a burning building than get a shot with a needle."

So, what are your phobias (and to help here is a large list of phobias [http://phobialist.com/], from common to "wait, that exist?")?

Some of mine:

Altophobia: Fear of Heights- Yeah, I dont like tall places. I am always paranoid that I will fall and die, and the only way I can have some way past this (for a little bit) is to be strapped in with various harnesses and seat belts.

Atychiphobia: Fear of Failure- This one is really bad right now as I am entering adulthood and starting college. I have already had a rough time with college, and I am afraid that I will not cut it and be left homeless and unable to achieve my dreams and have a family.

Aviophobia: Fear of Flying- This ties back in with the fear of heights, and no amount of "you are more likely to die in a car then a plane" will change that. I would rather take a train or bus across the country, or a ship across the ocean, than fly, even if it takes days or weeks rather than the hours a plane would.

Dishabiliophobia: Fear of undressing in front of others- Cant do it. Not at all. When I took gym class, I had to get special permission to change in private because I wouldnt change in front of others. If there is a reason for me to be changed, I will arrive changed already or will find a private area to do it.

Lygophobia: Fear of Darkness- I hate the dark. When I go to sleep, I have to have SOME form of light. Luckily, my alarm clock is pretty bright, and our yard light come in through the window.

Stenophobia: Fear of narrow places- Yeah, dont do so well. By "narrow" I mean that I am afraid that my arms/legs wont be able to move and I will be stuck. And due to my Aspergers, I have to keep SOME movement in my arms/legs going at all times (for whatever reason).

So escapist, what scares you into shitting bricks?

I have no idea whether there's a term for this, but I'm afraid of being locked in bathrooms. Must be a childhood thing...

It isn't really a phobia but wet paper and specifically paper in a persons mouth makes me gag. I find wet paper so disgusting it grosses me out so much.

I am terrified of death I think it is because I can't convince myself to believe in life after death so the thought of my existence no longer being is really eery and nerve raking.

Mild Entomophobia, and you can lump in Arachnophobia with that (yes I know they're not insects, but the aversion to them is similar). I can see one and not freak out. I can kill a spider, for instance, and not lose my mind. But if a crawly bug or spider is on me, or appears close to getting on me, I lose it.

Mild to Moderate Acrophobia. I don't like heights. I'm better with them now then I was as a young man, but I still don't care for them one bit. I'm fine with "solid heights", like a rock bluff. I can't tolerate "shaky heights" like amusement park rides, or glass elevators.

I feel like this is simply "I don't like it" but there's a strong possibility that somewhere deep down it's actually a fear:
Long-Term Planning. Especially if it's for something really important like education or a career which I KNOW requires long-term planning but I just figure that the farther out I plan something, there's more opportunities for a wrench to be thrown into the gears of that plan.

Venom used against me. I hate dying because of something I cannot control/avoid.

Also dying because of something internal. (Remember the UN officer from "The Mist"? When something is alive inside you and kills you that way.)

I have a fear of massive underwater animals, especially pictures of them in open water. This includes prehistoric sea creatures like the Megalodon and Plessiosaur.

Yeah, this. When something gets to be a few thousand pounds at least, I'm hesitant about my ability to punch it away. The openness of the ocean in general make me quite nervous if I focus on it for a bit, but I still enjoy beaches.

Just the thought of the Megalodon scares me. That thing is a literal nightmare incarnate.

For those that don't know this is a Megalodon

I suppose altophobia and claustrophobia. I'm a awkward person.
By the way thats a pretty cool list you got there. The funniest one would probably be francophobia: fear of the french.

Lose 1d20 sanity points.
I think I may be a hypochondriac, because my list is really long and I didn't put everything I thought I had.
Well I most definitely have this: Agateophobia- Fear of insanity.
Well if it means fear of being insane, it's something that runs through my mind way too often.
Probably this Aphenphosmphobia- Fear of being touched. (Haphephobia)
I get really nervous and aggressive when people touch me sometimes I just want to cry....
That too Automysophobia- Fear of being dirty.
I'm completely unable to do anything unless I shower, if there's no water I won't get up or will just sit and stare at a wall...
This Coitophobia- Fear of coitus...
I think this too Coprophobia- Fear of feces.
I felt really awful last time I had to clean some dogs feces.
That one too Dishabiliophobia- Fear of undressing in front of someone.
I can't even wear short sleeve shirts, doubt I'll be able to undress in front of someone.
That too Doxophobia- Fear of expressing opinions or of receiving praise.
I really hate when people give me compliments and usually invent excuses or explain how it was wrong, it just bothers me a lot but I think this may be very mild.
I'm pretty sure I have this Erotophobia- Fear of sexual love or sexual questions...
And that Genophobia- Fear of sex...
This too Glossophobia- Fear of speaking in public or of trying to speak.
When I was a kid most people first impression of me was that I was either mute or retarded because I wouldn't talk, I'd just nod and shake my head, I still have a lot of trouble talking, but not that much.
Gymnophobia- Fear of nudity...
OK how would anyone not be afraid of this Helminthophobia- Fear of being infested with worms?
I mean it never crossed my mind before but I'd be surprised if someone isn't scared of that.

That Philemaphobia or Philematophobia- Fear of kissing.
Yeah this too Philophobia- Fear of falling in love or being in love.
Soteriophobia - Fear of dependence on others.
I hate asking for help, I'd rather not eat for a week than accept somebody else's food, in fact in November I got really sick because I didn't anything for 3 days but kept working and stuff despite the fact that my coworkers kept offering me food and offering to buy me food.
Virginitiphobia- Fear of rape.
But I think everyone has this to some degree, I mean other than people that have rape fetishes I don't think anyone wants to get raped.

Fear of vomiting, not major but if someone says "I feel sick" I often gather my stuff and leave. I'm terrified of people vomiting near me, and will probably not go to many drunk parties.

I'm so glad it wasn't one of those graphic representations. Funnily enough, I've read some of the MEG books by Steve Alten and quite enjoyed them!

I don't really have anything I would call a phobia but I find snakes pretty damn scary. I'm considering getting a pet one though, just to conquer my fear, non-venomous of course.

Phobia of cows/bulls, I'm not sure what that's called.

In my defence, when I was very little I was on my Grandad's farm and watched one put its horn through one of my Grandad's legs.

I know it's silly but I properly freak out if I think there's one nearby, always have.

I HATE large open bodies of water. It gets much worse if I can't see the shore at all. The vast emptiness and fact that you can't see what's beneath you scares me to death.

Oh and claustrophobia, even spaces that aren't *that* enclosed can still fuck me up. those MRI scanners are the worst things ever. Stupidly loud, enclosed, you're not allowed to move and they put a box over your head because lol brain scans are fun.

Oh i'm scared of large open spaces and tight spaces? Fuck off world, one or the other please.

I'm fine with open spaces when i'm on land to clarify, it's just water.
