My friend would like to know. He is a big Russell Crowe fan, and thinks the movie will be one of the best(or at least pretty good).

My personal prediction is that it looks like(and may very well be) a medieval version of Gladiator(which may have been a great film. I've only seen parts of it).

Now, Escapists, he wants to know what your predictions are.

I liked gladiator. I'd watch it again with a weird retelling of English civil war.

Oh and I predict obscene historical license, not that I have a problem with that.

The trailer I saw had wooden higgins boats like they were trying to redo Saving Private Ryan. I think the movie will be an empty spectical, Americanizing a classic English story.

I don't see it as being all that great. The trailer definitely didn't sell me on it.

I think it will probably a big bucket full of eh.

My friend though is convinced it is going to be the next Gladiator. We shall have to wait and see about that.

I'd agree with you, After the awesome which was the movie Gladiator I trust these people. I'm sure that Liberties will be taken, one of which will be making Robin Hood somehow a time travelling American (ok, I still might be holding a grudge from U-571).

Potentially, but i hope with Ridley Scott at the helm it wont be, considering he is British.

The only problem I have is that whilst Ridley Scott does make very very good films, like Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, Alien and Blade Runner, he also makes bad films, like Kingdom of Heaven and (personally, i did not enjoy this film) Body of Lies.

It's big! It's violent! It looks totally and utterly bland!
Indeed, which is exactly what Robin Hood is not (at least not the fictional version we all know and love). He defeats his enemies with his cunning and wit, he always looks at the bright and funny side and only goes for lethal violence when really needed. He is not an emo war veteran hell-bend on killing everything in his sights.

Mind you, I liked Gladiator and I often like big, violent epics (mindless entertainment), but it's just not something that fits with Robin Hood.

It looks pretty generic, but then I felt the same way about Gladiator.

Russel Crow kicks ass, but I'm not really sure about this movie.

Isn't Russel a kiwi?
But basically refighting the american civil war? In medieval England? With an Auzzie maid Marien? Against a Guatemalen King? Filmed in wales?

but now I'm just being pedantic.

I'm sure it will be a good movie whatever the outcome, I like both the actor and director so I think we can at least hope for a decent movie. Whether it will be any better I couldn't say because in honesty the trailer hasn't done much to impress me.
