Eh, Russel doesn't 'look' like Robin Hood to me, when I picture Robin, I picture a sly, witty bad-ass with a pointy goatee.

Heheh. Just kidding.
Oh and this...except not kidding.
Fully agree with Doitpow. The Disney Robin Hood was EPIC! As was the Costner. I think this'll be a bland retelling of the story. However I won't abandon hope that it'll be awesometastic.
A pox on the phony kingo of england, oodelally!

It just looks so weird... Russel Crowe is all wrong as Robin Hood. And Maid Marion is some kind of knight in shining armor? That wasn't in the books I read. The Outlaws are doing some kind of frontal assault on a fortification on a beach? I admit I can be nit-picky, but they don't even seem to understand the 'gist' of Robin Hood, or anything about it. The only thing that looks right is Friar Tuck. Maybe they just wanted to crank out another bland, boring showdown movie and they needed an 'epic' setting.

"I declare him... an outlaaaw!" What the hell is that? If your movie made sense maybe you wouldn't have to try so damn hard. I'll keep an eye out for news, but the movie looks SOOO boring.
This is actually the most realistic version I've seen to date. Just like other filmmakers did with the legend of King Arthur, and with the Crusades (Kingdom of Heaven), and so on, and even Scott/Crowe in Gladiator, they've taken the legend that everyone thinks is the real one, done the historical referencing, and then produced a film that is actually realistic. The stories everyone, you and I both included, read were just children's tales that clouded the real historical basis. There may well have been a Robin of Loxley, a knight, who fought in the Crusades and became an outlaw against King John. Then the legends sprang up, conflicting stories and mythologies were written, and now we get people like you (no offence) who think those are the real facts and don't know the truth. Ridley Scott's adaptation looks to be a relatively faithfull retelling of the story, bringing it back to it's real roots.

For the record, it isn't just stories like this that have the same treatment over the years and end up diverging massively from their source. Pretty much every children's tale and fairytale had the same thing done to them to make them child-friendly. Just Google the origins of Red Riding Hood before the Brothers Grimm came along, if you want an example.

EDIT: As for the frontal assault on a beach, I believe that's meant to be in the Crusades. In the real origins of the legend, Robin of Loxley (later named Robin Hood in other adaptations) was a Crusader and a knight, fighting alongside King Richard. He was only an outlaw after his lands were confiscated and his position removed from him during his absence.

Remember kids - knowing is half the battle :D

Might be interesting. Russell Crowe is one of my favorite actors, and Ridley Scott has not really dissapointed me either. With that said, I probably will, like everything else these days, not go to the theatre but instead decide to wait until it comes out on DVD so I can check it out then.

I don't like movie theatres much.

Kill it. Kill it with fire. Now, while it is still weak.

The setting and vibe seem to have fuck all to do with Robin Hood, for one thing, and after the awesome version with Costner and Freeman I don't really need a new iteration.

Maybe I'd be kinder to it if they'd called it "Locksley" or something to that effect, but what I've seen so far is NOT Robin Hood.

1. It's going to come out! (Wow, I'm a fucking prophet!)
2. Some people will like it! (Woah!)
3. Some people will not! (WOAH!)
4. There'll be flamewars and whining and bitching all over internet, because such is the nature of it.

That's it, I'm starting my own religion.

Now, to be serious, do ya'll realize that there's more then one Robin Hood "story" out there? That the one you might be familiar with, whether it's THAT comedy, or Rocket Robin Hood (lol), or Disney (if they had it, they probably did), is no more credible then any other interpretation? The same way Faerie tales get fucked over by moral guardians, same thing happens to just about any story.

Robin Hood who steals from the rich and gives to the poor and overall a nice fella is just an idealistic impression a poor person who benefits from these actions would have. Or the storyteller making the story more friendly.

But obviously enough, there's at least one more face to Robin. A violent thief and murderer - you've gotta be kidding me if you think one can rob anyone continuously without getting any casualties on either side who finds himself above the corrupt law - and is hardly any better, objectively.

Frankly, I know nothing about this upcoming movie and I may or may not watch it. If it's dark and gritty, it'll be awesome, because based on the trailers it's sure enough not a comedy.

It looks okay but it's all up in the air I think one might just have to see it. Personally it can't be worse than some of the other robin hood movies before it.

I hope it does come with some humor and levity. Intense action back and forth seems boring. Also shouldn't king something or other Be like an increduble coward? I hope they get that across.

That's actually my thoughts of the movie.

And I'm not kidding at all.

Russel Crowe as Robin Hood is just a weird choice especially since this is supposed to take place before the legend of Sherwood Forest, so he's supposed to be younger.

Russel Crowe isn't fit to be a young and skillful theif

I don't know, it looked okay... but therein lies the problem. Something like Robin Hood has the potential to be more than an okay film. I hope it can live up to the likes of Gladiator, but I'm pretty skeptical about that, to be honest.
Plus, living where its set hasn't helped at all. It's been hyped to high-hell here...

Seems to be the usual Ridley Scott formulae. Gritty Realism. It worked for Gladiator, so I don't know why it won't work again, especially with the same star.

Two words: Fucking. Awesome.

I'm up for yet another retelling of the Robin Hood story. This one looks ginormous, I love all the battle-scenes, all the dirt and grit. I'm definitely seeing this (and I liked Kingdom of Heaven...at least I remember liking it...was there something amiss with it that I've forgotten?)

the main actor will be good, but the movie theme sound like the average overused "FWEEDOMM" BS.

Also, robin hood's been done to death.

I'm not sure by the trailer..it seems like they are trying to just show all the fighting scenes to hype it up. But, I do love Robin Hood so I'm willing to give it a chance

I was sceptical, then I saw the trailer with the D-Day style scene.

most of the movie will be set in Nottingham (unless I'm mistaken), now I live in Nottingham. there are no beaches. none.
