As the title says, what is your current or future profession? Is it your dream job? Why did you select it? What is/do you think is the best part of it? And have you ever had to give up on a dream job for another job? Also what is the hardest thing you had to do to get to your dream job/hardest thing about your job?

As for me, I want to be an Engineer when I finish college. Hopefully do a bachelors in Software engineering and then a double degree with structural engineering. I just love the work it employs and the fact that you have to work with the physics of the natural world to build impressive feats. The best part will be to build something that others could use on a daily basis or could benefit humanity in someway. After all, we are the oompa-loompa's of science.

What about u guys?

I work in a Liesure Centre as a Lifeguard/Liesure attendant.

If it paid well it would be the best job in the world.

I'm a Music Industry Corporate Whore as the title says.

It's more or less my dream job, it's not perfect but it's a lot better than what a lot of other people have got, and there are some neat perks that make it absolutely worthwhile.

I selected it because I like music.

Aside from aforementioned perks, the best part of the job is having power over the careers and livelihood of others, and being able to change the destiny of others for the better (or worse).

I frequently have to supplement this job with other work in order to pay bills but hey that's the way it goes in an industry which has been on a steady downturn for the last decade.

I'm a skinner and a leatherworker. Oh... you meant in real life.

In that case, I'm a student, hoping to go on to study chemistry alchemy at Uni.

EDIT: Fix'd some terminology that was pointed out to be incorrect.

I'm a student at college, doing IT. I want to do something computer-y... and being a games programmer/designer, or even just involved in the games industry, is my dream career.

Im a salmon fish-farmer..

Its very nice, i get to go out on the sea everyday, fresh air, driving a boat to work..

Lots a hard physical labour, that makes me strong so i dont have to go to the gym :)

Also, i get as much free fish as i want.. And im in charge of the farm i work at, daily manager, so i have people below me taking orders from me :)

Also pays ok, and just got christmas bonus of 4200 dollars.. Plus i got a paid vacation in a 5 star hotel on Canary Islands from my boss.. Tis awesome..

I work as a Service Engineer for a company that provide hardware to the Movie industry.

This is my first job since I finished University.

Is it my Dream Job? far from it. Do I like it? well its a varied job, so some days are awesome and others are painful. :p

I did study Product Development and design, so in the future I would probably look for jobs which contain more of that than my current job.

I am currently between study/work. I finished medical school so its off to the medical internship rotations at the teaching hospital come February which should help me attain my dream job, of being a doctor.

I didn't always want to do medicine, I remember hating doctors and hospitals as a kid. I remember wanting to be an astronaut, a marine biologist, writer, geneticist and some other hard science/exotic profession but by the time I got into college/highschool I had fallen in love with medicine. It kind of snuck up on me I guess, I just loved the pure mechanics of it, the diagnosing process, the detective vibe, the whole "fixing the dying" thing kinda clicked with me. Which also happens to be the best things about the job, so that answers the next question as well.

Hardest thing (thus far) was probably the exams and the time-management skills we had to develop, refine and implement. Also there are some long-arse names in medicine, I mean seriously, hepatopancreaticobiliary surgery? 'Twas a fun chapter though....

And finally, no I did not have to give up on a dream job to land a gig at the hospital, that kinda went with the flow. Though I am bummed a bit that I will probably never get to be an astronaut.

I'm an university student, in CS/IT. Even though I expected ending up with a boring office job, I seem to be leaning towards becoming an indie game developer. Especially now that I'm working seriously on a game.

It is nice when I end up with my 10-year-old's dream job, even though I had discarded it all those years ago, as an impossible path for me.

What is your current or future profession?
Current: Salesman
Future: Psychologist

Is it your dream job?
Being a psychologist is my dream job, yes.

Why did you select it?
Apart from the money and prestige having a PhD affords you, I above all want to help people. I had Clinical Depression for a while when I was younger, and it was unimaginably bad for me and to me. If I didn't get professional help when I did, I'm fairly sure I'd be six feet under about now.

What is/do you think is the best part of it?
Helping people mostly, money second.

And have you ever had to give up on a dream job for another job?
Negative

Also what is the hardest thing you had to do to get to your dream job/hardest thing about your job?
The work, the study, and the stress of being constantly exposed to those less fortunate. But it will be worth it.

Hardest thing about my current job is the hours. I've been pulling constant 50-60 hour weeks in the lead-up to Christmas. And that's constantly on my feet, talking to people, and being able to convince people to buy. That's a lot harder than you may think.
