Read the Cartridge part.

This game is in my safety deposit box at my bank.
Wow... That link is probably the single most geekiest thing I've ever read...

A few years ago I had to sell most of my old games to keep from ending up homeless (sudden unemployment + landlord raised the rent = sad SimuLord). I ended up parting with black-stripe copies of Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy Tactics (I hated to get rid of that game but it fetched $75 on eBay) plus Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together.

One of the rarest games I've played is King's Quest 4 oddly enough. Or rather a particular version of King's Quest 4. What made this particular KQ4 so rare is that it was built using the older Sierra AGI engine as opposed to the later SCI engine.

Sierra originally had intended to release the AGI version for those with lesser hardware. The SCI version required at least an 8 MHz CPU, used a 320x200x4bit (16 colour) graphics display, had full sound card support and required 512KB of RAM (these were steep requirements back in the day), while the AGI version used a 160x200x4bit graphics display, had at best 3 voice Tandy/PC jr. sound support and only required 256KB of RAM.

Honestly I preferred the AGI version, it felt more like a "real" Sierra adventure game. Sometimes better graphics can detract from the quality of a game.

I have no idea how rare it is, but I had a hard time getting my hands on a new copy of System Shock 2. Which I finally did when I got drunk at a mates and realised he had it. He had bought it back when it came out, played it for 10 minutes, decided he hated it and left in in the closet. Then he gave it to me. So good things come from drinking too much.

Like someone has already said: Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. Either that or Planescape Torment.

Edit: I also have the original Theme park for DOS apparently.

The two rare games I have are Valkyrie Profile and black label Final Fantasy VII. And no, no one is allowed to buy them.

I've got my mint condition 'big-box' versions of Final Fantasy 7 + 8 for the pc, including all of the postcard things and a flyer for a competition to win a load of manga videos that closed in November'08.

Not exactly a game, I've also got a perfect condition, still in its box, imported pocketstaion silver.

Kya: Dark Lineage probably. Yeah didn't think you'd heard of it. It's a PS2 game, quite similar to Beyond Good & Evil. Some really excellent gameplay and their use of wind as a gameplay element is fantastic!

Mine would have to be Roadkill for the PS2, think GTA meets Twisted Metal meets Mad Max and what you have is one shit storm of a fun game. Ive only ever found it twice, 1 for PS2 (which i bought) and 1 for Xbox. GTA is renowned for its witty humor, especially on its music stations, but Roadkill easily surpasses it, this one line makes it.

Random Caller to Radio Station - "Hey you guys, you ever done it with a pigeon, i have, then i had some pancakes, then BAM! Whacked my nuts on those pancakes, people dont want no Sexed up Pancakes."

Random ass Comments like that made this game so special.

Not to mention some awesome cheesy 80s power Metal, to encapsulate how awesome the music is, Dont Fear the Reaper by The Blue Oyster Cult is the theme song to this awesome game, More Cowbell!!!

I have a japanese version of gran tourismo 2 for the PS2 Europe platform. I'd say that's pretty rare.

Er... Alpha Centauri's rare? I picked up the Complete version (includes Alien Crossfire) up not that long ago from Game new from the 3 for £10 section...

I've been gathering quite a collection of old games, though my pride and joy is the boxed version of Albion, an old RPG by Blue Byte. Sonic CD for the PC comes a close second, due to not having a box. I've also got hold of Front Mission 3 and Evil Zone for the Playstation. When I find the person who nicked The Unholy War from me when I was younger I'm going to throttle them. :p

Not actually acquired, but requiring scavenging the Internet to get hold of, was the full version of Masterspy, the shareware version of which was one of the first computer games I ever played 20 years ago. (Yes, I started gaming at 2 years of age - what of it?)
