I have this notion that all custom ringtones are is a vanity tool. "Look at me, hear my cool ringtone"
Maybe I'm biased, but it really annoys the crap out of me when I hear 30 different ringtones go off and a good portion of them are trying to be witty or pop-culture cool.
Like the Crank ringtone fad...
I don't use ringtones, I keep it on vibrate if I use the cell at all, which when I'm not at work or when I'm driving, it is turned the hell off. There's no need to be in contact 24/7 unless you're on call.
But thats my 2 cents, I don't feel human beings should be plugged into their phones all the time, slaves to the electronic leash...
To each their own, I don't down anyone for it, its just my opinion.

Do you ever get strange looks when you're phone goes off? I use the FF7 fanfare too and every time it goes off in public everyone just stops and looks at me with a "WTF was that?" look on their face. Can't quite let anyone other than the people nearby hear it since it's a one-of-a-kind tune and isn't uploaded anywhere But it's probably the best one I've ever had.

I only just recently swapped the ringtone to that, so that scenario hasn't come up. Not with FF7, anyway. ^_^ I've have NUMEROUS things result from having Marios anything for ring tones. I was at a computer store talking to a nerd clerk about speakers, when my phone went off, and he started to do a little jig to it. I'd get a text message in class (coin), and people would be like, "mario just got a coin!" I guess it was a mystery for a while who had the phone that was doing it. I had no idea I had kept such a good secret. :3
