The chainsaw wielders in any Resident Evil, or the Dead Space necromorphs playing dead. No matter how many times I encounter these, it's always scary. And the bear in Condemned 2: Bloodshot. RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!! It is the advice that comes from everyone who's seen it, and the game itself.

This wasn't the worst, but anyone recall the werewolf from Vampires the Masquerade: Bloodlines? That was a nice piece of work.

I usually never get to any scary parts of games until late into the night with friends over that add to the tense atmosphere of the room, which helps make everything twice as freaky.
The overall atmosphere of these games is creepy, but here are memorable jump moments.

Condemned 1 - The manikin level. Anyone who played through that game knows what I'm talking about. And the crawlers... those crawlers were so freaky that my friends and I would crawl around at each other in the dark and freak each other out way too much.

Bioshock 1 - When you pick up that one plasmid, and the screen ices over, and when you can see again you slowly turn around to find a splicer just a few inches from your face. That and the level with the basement type room with a small layer of water covering the floor and as you make it across the room you turn around to see around 10 statues of spider splicers. You know they are never all statues..

Dead Space 1- I still havent beat this game. Not because of fear, I just havent done it yet. But still, when you are alone in the dark with 4 plasma cutter(or whatever the pistol is) rounds left, and you know that you hear them creeping slowly behind you...

Have you ever played a game where you whisper to your friend or just to yourself, "I think there is something behind me..."? It always adds to the fun lol And you will probably freak yourself out :p

The Dunwich Building in Fallout 3.

First time I went there freaked me the hell out for a few days.
Man the first time I went through there I didn't know there was a flashlight in fallout 3.
It made the all ready standing horribly terrifying experience 10 times worse.
I thought that place was barely even possible without a flashlight. :O
