Mass effect.
I rented it for 20 minutes before taking it back, sure enough my friends complained i didn't give it enough of a chance so i rented it again about a month later, that time it lasted me about 3-5 hours to see if it had gotten any better later on in the game, sadly it didn't and i let it sit there until the rental ended and took it back.
Apparently you are the only one that thinks it's bad :p.

need for speed undercover - having previously rented it when it dropped in stores I enjoyed the game but it was missing trophies and such thus about a month ago i picked it up again and this time there was a new patch to download (trophies, dlc)

I had just received a new ps3 because mine was starting to show signs of ware (weird artifacts on the screen in multiple games on multiple tvs)

I had to start a new game but i got most of the trophies since they were "saved" on EAs servers
But EA did what I didn't suspect you could with a patch, MESS up a game beyond the orignal state

Pop-ins, FALLING through roads if going to fast, random pauses to catch up on loading.
All which were not present in the game when I first rented it. Thus I took back the game 3 hours after getting home with it.

From the sound of things shift seems just as bad
They had to patch in car damage from what I've read

Max Payne. For like 5 minutes.

I was a kid and I was used to violence (in games) but in the beginning of the game when he found his family murdered and he got to the baby's room...that's when I immediately returned it back to the store. I just had a problem with dead babies, especially when their blood is smeared all over the walls and it plays a creepy lullaby...sick bastards.

Years later I finally beat the game without a problem though.
The dead baby scene at the beginning and the dream sequences later on with the blood trails and the constant baby crying was unbelievably creepy. I actually muted the t.v. during the entire blood trail/maze/ balance beam segment. Thankfully the second one didn't bring up the dead baby thing.

That's okay. I sometimes feel like I'm the only one who hated No More Heroes, besides everyone I know personally who's played it.

It was either "Transformers: The Movie: The Game" (the "Transformers 2" game, meanwhile, kicked ass) or some Gundam game that I can't recall the title off. Both were possessed for a very short time and both pissed me off to the point that I demanded (and got) my money back.

Two Worlds.
Picked it up, brought it home, wasted 25 minutes of my life, put it back in the box, brought it back.
could you find the first village? my friend whined for hours that he could never find the first town so i have never tried it because of that.
Your friend is stupid. There was a path...

Shortest rental was...Far Cry 2. Man, that game just sucked. Yes, I did post in this topic twice without noticing.

Assassin's Creed: I just couldn't get into the game, and I think I only played it for around a day before returning it. In retrospect, I didn't really give it a chance, and I'll almost certaintly try out Assassin's Creed 2, but my first impression of the game was "wow, this is really quite boring".

Sonic and the Secret Rings. 30 minutes, tops.

After that game, I lost all hope for 3D Sonic games. As if I shouldn't have before. It was absolutely atrocious. Controls, storyline, cutscenes, gameplay... everything.
