So, we only have a few more hours remaining of 2011, and I'm sure everyone is getting ready to get drunk, see in 2012 and try and remember the lyrics to For Auld Lang Syne.
It's been a rather tempestuous year, what with the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, the subsequent disaster at Fukushima, the eurozone coming close to collapse, the Occupy Wall Street movement going global, and the Arab Spring toppling dictators left, right and centre, to name but a few events.
So, I've been thinking, Escapists. What song describes 2011 better than any other to you? For me, I'd say it's Take A Bow by Muse:
In a year where Hosni Mubarak, Colonel Gaddafi, and Kim Jong-Il have all been removed from power by popular uprising, civil war or merely the cold touch of the Grim Reaper, it seems appropriate to have a song that charts the rise and fall of a despot: starting with "Cast a spell on the country you love" and moving to "You will beg for their lives and their souls".
EDIT:
