Probably the only thing that has ever had a physical effect on me was listening to the theme song of Gurren Lagann again recently. Let me explain.

I LOVE Gurren Lagann. Despite the shit ending, it showcases one of the greatest examples of brotherhood that I have ever seen in any story telling medium before or since. The anime had an profound effect on me and I still hold the relationship between Simon and Kamina as one of the best examples of compelling friendship ever. That being said, I haven't watched it since I finished it, and I eventually started to forget things about it. Then, one day, I was listening to music on Sound Cloud on random, and a song that I didn't recognize started playing. I was going to skip it, but I felt compelled not to. I let the entire song play in its entirety and looked at the song title after it ended. It was the theme song to Gurren Lagann. I can't really describe how I felt after the song ended, but it had an effect on me that I find fascinating. And I don't think that anything else has ever made me feel that way before.

Now this tickles me fancy. I like Doom, but prefered the PS1 version for its sound, even if it didn't allow for saving onto the memorycard..
It's surprising what the PS1 version had that the PC version didn't. The most obvious aspect is the sound effects and music, but I didn't even remember that it had reverb effects, coloured lightning and transparent walls.

There were some downsides liked downgraded textures and simplified levels, but despite being the same game it offered a very different experience. Slower and more moody. These days I can't stand Bobby Prince's MIDI soundtrack for the PC version, Aubrey Hodges' soundtrack was far better.

As a plus, the PS1 mod for the PC version of Doom allows all the benefits of both the port and the original (and seeing as it runs on GZDoom, the benefits of that source port too).

Have to agree with you.
And it does show that hardware limitations aren't nescecarely a bad thing.

Then again, I do think that the graininess PS1 games tend to have sometimes just fit the game.

If you didn't bring it up in this thread I wouldn't even have known that Doom got a mod that brings the PS1 version to PC, definetly going to play it!

I still remember my first, mid 80s (I was 4,5 or 6 - no way in hell I can remember) and uncle just brought us his old ZX Spectrum 48k. At first me and my bro didn't get what is he doing with cables around our color TV (yes, COLOR TVs were a thing back then in my hometown!).

An then it started...

Just listened to this, right in my nostalgia muscle.
YES! My favorite game!

Also the Konami start up screen in SNES games fills me with great nostalgia, and sadness, same for the Capcom logo in NES and SNES games.

Nostalgia. I don't have much, but as I get older I notice a few thing that give me that nostalgic feelin.

Good times fishing, mining, and watching noobs get tricked into the PVP zones. Also the glorious market.

A while back when I played Half Life 1 again. I hadn't touched the game for a good 10~12 years or so. Hadn't felt that nostalgic in years.

A few weeks ago I had the irresistible urge to do some baking. So I made an apricot pie.
When I was done and it stood there, cooling on the kitchen counter, I felt awash with nostalgia, because it is the same kind of pie my grandma always made for me whenever my mom and I went to visit. Before the cancer had wasted her away into a shell of her former self. Then I felt like crying.
