How does Red Dead Remption and Bloodborne run on your PC?
RDR is a setting I was never a fan of by a studio I dislike. I wouldn't have played it even if it was on PC.

Bloodborne looks better, and From Software has made good games in the past (port issues nonwithstanding). But the game on PS4 has loading times so long that it has become an internet meme. Rigs with RAID 0 SSD's would blow it out of the water.

Halo 1-3 are all fantastic games, but 2 of those are on PC. And it's not like the 'armored space soldier fights aliens' genre has any scarcity.

Uncharted? Heavily downgraded from it's E3 build. [http://community.us.playstation.com/t5/image/serverpage/image-id/36861iDFED796E7BDCBE2B/image-size/original?v=mpbl-1&px=-1]

The Last of Us? Angry Joe liked it. By all measures it sounds great. I'd play it if it ever got ported (or I'll just emulate it).

Journey/Flower/Catherine/whatever other exclusives that look good - same.

Speaking of emulation, you can already play basically any game from the sixth generation back on PC with higher resolutions, AA, etc. Soon you'll also be able to emulate 7th gen games. And 8th gen.

Even the idea of 'generations' in gaming is obsolete.

Consoles today are basically standalone mobile GPUs with locked OS's, with PCs superior at literally everything. The 8th gen consoles are at the limits of their hardware with many games running sub-1080p 30fps while PCs are moving towards 4k 120fps and immersive VR.

Well, that slightly glossy pile of dust in the corner is what's known as my WiiU. I think it still has the Mario Kart 8 disc in it from when I bought it...

My PS4 gets a little love now and then. Currently it's unplugged to save power while we use the A/C.
Why did you buy them, out of interest? The promise of future games?

OT: I'll be getting a Wii U soon, but in all honesty, the stables of all three consoles are underwhelming at the moment.

Gen 8? Oh you mean the 8th console you'd have to buy to have your complete game library running on?

Yeah, I don't think much of it. #PCMasterrace
How does Red Dead Remption and Bloodborne run on your PC?
You could only come up with two good exclusive games- one if which is not far from overpraised trash- to redeem your peasantry?
No. That was just 2 off the top of my head. There's God of War, Super Smash Brothers, anything else Nintendo made, Twisted Metal, Ratchet and Clank, Naughty Dog's games, etc.

Plus getting decades old games to work on a PC is a pain in the ass. I put in the CD and it just doesn't recognize it while other games it does. At least with consoles you have a definitive cut off point.
Getting decades old games to work on a PC is pretty easy if you know what you are doing, and every game gives you a "definitive" cut off point on its system requirements, but that doesn't mean you can't make it work. PCs have the best backwards compatibility.
Ok so how can I get my old Windows 95/98 games to work on my laptop running Windows 7?

I gots a Wii-U, and I have no desire for a One or 4. All of the games that interest me on those systems either turned out like crap, or run leaps and bounds better on PC.

Bayonetta 2, Mario Kart 8, Smash, and Captain Toad: TT are my favourites so far

There's also everything Nintendo has ever made.

The WiiU has so many great games I don't even have time to play them all. So I guess that is a good thing?

Personal Favorites so far:
Smash U
Mario Kart 8
Monster Hunter Tri U

I also bought the Metroid Prime trilogy, Barely even have time for it though lol.

Hype for Splatoon!

Greatly depends on the game and if you can live with software rendering or really want 3D acceleration enabled. Aside from rebuying the game on a digital platform if its available, you may have to look for fan made installers, wrapper programs like nGlide or dgvoodoo to deal with the lack of GLIDE and old school Direct3D support and fan made patches. I don't think there are a huge number of games from the Windows 95/98 era that absolutely won't run on Windows 7, but it can certainly be a pain in the ass. For some stuff, you may be better off running a Windows 95/98 or XP virtual machine and running the game in that. I suppose the one silver lining is that awkward period of PC gaming compatibility problems only really extends between the years of 1996 and 2000, with stuff before that generally working fine in DOSBox and stuff after that being built for Windows XP and usually not having huge problems in Windows 7 as a result.

As for the current generation, not so great so far in terms of exclusives, and thus any reason to actually buy a console when I already have a decent PC. Microsoft has jack shit for exclusives, and will probably have nothing except the next iteration of Halo and Gears of War as actual exclusives and not just timed deals. The best exclusives on PS4 are a remastering of a PS3 game and a reskin of Dark Souls that continues From Software's tradition of games built for masochists that suffer from framerate problems.

Nintendo has a better lineup of exclusives, most of which came out two years too late to save the Wii U's fortunes. I've pretty much grown out of Nintendo's games at this point, and obscure JRPGs also aren't my thing, so I don't really care enough about them to consider getting a Wii U.

You expected your PC to just read a disc made for a console? You need an emulator for that. It takes about 2 minutes to set up an emulator and running a game. God of War was fun in 1080p and 60 FPS.

EDIT: Just realized you might've meant PC games. In that case you just Google for a patch (usually fan-made) that makes the game run under new OSs.

No I expected my Windows 7 laptop to run PC games made for Windows 95.

The generation was uncalled for and has failed to justify itself for three years now - unlike, I think, previous generations.

Different games will have different individual fixes to get them running on newer machines. A few over-arching fixes are virtual machines- if you still have your old windows 98/95 serial number laying around (Or you could look for a copy on ebay for like 10-20 bucks), there are a plethora of programs that can emulate older OSs, Microsoft has even put out a few- one if which lets you emulate XP for free if you have Windows 7 professional or above, no serial number needed, and its 32-bit, so a lot of installers work in it with little to no additional effort. There is also DOSbox, but its usefulness becomes more and more limited the newer the game gets (It stops being the 100% workaround at around the mid 90s, but still works for many titles, as many games back then still came out for DOS and Windows, as GUI OSs weren't always top market stuff). You could also install an old operating system onto your computer- but sense you are using a laptop I wouldn't recommend that as there may be some compatibility issues. Other than this many games have gotten individual work arounds thanks to dedicated players, it might be a tweaked installer or a graphical mod that makes a game more stable on newer GPUs, just Google the game and see if anyone has come up with anything.

I'm pretty disappointed in this gen so far. Just like how both big guys went cheap with (slightly modified) x86 PC components (and pretty darn weak ones for a shift to a new generation, at that), nearly every publisher has been hesitant to risk making something worth buying those two systems for. Compilations/upgraded re-releases/remakes always been around, but this generation is especially getting them piled on real early in its life. That's good for someone who already bought a PS4/xbone and might not have played the originals, but it usually isn't too enticing for someone with the original game and its system. There just isn't enough for me to warrant dropping $350-400 on a new box right now, or even in the near future. Anyone who isn't dying to get a new game box might as well wait for some sales/price drops to happen.

I do have a Wii U. It's the closest to being worth it with Pikmin 3, Bayonetta 1 and 2, Smash Bros, and several others. This year just doesn't look too promising for the Wii U either, with Splatoon and Star Fox being the only exclusives I'm almost 100% guaranteed to get. There is at least big back log of games on my wish lists to check out.

I probably won't even upgrade my well out of date PC within the next year, thanks to everything of interest to me being either a low demand indie game or made back when the PS360 was the standard for graphics. Chances are good, though, that I'll build a new rig well before buying a current gen console. Only God of War returning to its GoW 2 level of quality or Halo 5 being teh bestest thing evar could change that.

Question...did you list CoD Ghosts because it's better than Blops2 or because you haven't played Blops2? Just curious really...I plan on getting one, the other or, both eventually and I've never really seen anybody praise CoD on the Wii U...or CoD aside from Modern Warfare 1 but that's neither here nor there.

---

So, I don't own a PS4/Xbone because the games I want on those consoles are also available on the PS3 that I already own or the Wii U. So anyway, gen 8...I've enjoyed these games a lot;

Wii U

Deus Ex: Human Revolution DX
Hyrule Warriors
Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
Super Mario 3D World
Watch_Dogs
ZombiU

3DS

Fire Emblem Awakening
Legend of Zelda: Link Between Worlds
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team
Pokemon Y/OR
Theatrhythm & Curtain Call

PC

Five Nights at Freddy's trilogy
The Last Federation
Luftrauser
Papers, Please

I own Wolfenstein: The New One on the PS3 and it's my favorite shooter on that console.

Sounds like a bunch of annoying hoops and annoyances just to play old games.
Kind of like having to dig up an old console, unplug the one you currently have plugged in, and plug in the one you want to use to play older games, huh?

How is it going on Gen 8 for you?

What is great? For me?

Wii U
Wonderful 101
Pikmin 3
COD: Ghosts

PS4:
Shadow of Mordor
COD: Advanced Warfare
Dragon Age Inquisition

Xbox One:
Forza 5
Sunset Blvd.
Halo Collection
1. Ghosts on Wii U???? Is that even... good compared to another platform?
2. Forza 5 is pretty......................... fucking grindy. I've played countless hours just to unlock stuff and theres only about 15 tracks. I wish they would go back to the old days of fewer fucking cars but more tracks.
3. Sunset Overdrive, not Sunset Boulevard.

For me, I like it but there is a lot of downs as well as ups.
====================================================================================================

UPS
Wii U
Bayonetta 2 - as close to a perfect action game as possible, so far
Bayonetta 2
Wonderful 101 - just plain fun
Super Smash Bros - I suck at fighting games but at least in this one I can still have fun
backwards compatibility - really needed for a weaker hardware that has limited exclusives included in the library. Also, the wiimotes are backwards compatible as well

PS4
Alien Isolation - survival horror done right
Murdered: Soul Suspect - a great story buried in a mediocre game.
PT - the new level of a trailer and demo all in one
Final Fantasy Type-0 - a mediocre game but a sign that Japan knows that we want the games released in North America, even several years after they were on PSP

VITA
Danganronpa - a captivating story, and yet again, a demonstration of previously only Japanese titles being released elsewhere
OLED Screen - amazing visuals possible
Remote Play - I can play my PS4 anywhere??? Yes, please.

PSTV
Remote Play - better than having a second PS4 in the house. Cheaper too
Plays VITA games - sometimes VITA games are just more fun to play sitting back in a comfy chair

Xbox One
Forza Horizon 2 presents Fast and the Furious - for free for the first two weeks it was out and its a decent length
Sunset Overdrive - proof that Insomniac still has their awesome playstyle with quirky over the top humour
Titanfall - made me, a primarily solo gamer, play online

====================================================================================================

DOWNS
Wii U
Storage - 32GB is ridiculously nonsensical in this day and age of digital content
Amiibos - a good idea but limited supply just turns resellers and even retailers into greedy douches. If you didn't get Marth on day one enjoy trying to get him now for MSRP
Replacement tablet - can I even get one?

3DS
Region Locking - taking steps backwards for a handheld where its predecessors weren't locked

new 3DS
Dividing player base - lets make a console that has very few games and splits the player base in two
Overpriced - the system is more expensive than its predecessor
Lack of charger - in its arrogance, Nintendo assumes all people getting a new 3DS will already have a 3DS and so can use a charger from that since the new 3DS doesn't come with this 20 dollar necessity

PS4
Storage - only 500GB when mandatory installs tend to range from 10 to 50GB per game
Media support - why can't I do all the things I could with the PS3?
Controller grips - why does a controller grip wear out in under a month of regular gameplay?
Gameplay Saves separation - one of the games deleted the save file from a separate area when I uninstalled the game
Controller Battery life - this is just pitiful. I get at most 5 to 6 hours per charge. Xbox One has 30 hours.
Demos - a staple in trying out games last gen, and also demolished the rental market, where are they now? Other than EA Sports...

VITA
Proprietary charger - if you lose it, prepare to spend a lot on it
Storage - extremely overpriced proprietary memory cards. 32GB for $80???? Are you for real Sony?
new model, inferior screen - to reduce costs associated with making it, they got rid of the OLED display... but at least they switched to a micro USB charger so I guess that makes up for it

PSTV
Lack of game support - several companies refused to support it by disallowing use even if it was possible

Xbox One
Storage - see PS4 complaints
Gameplay saves cloud save - why can't I backup my save file to a memory stick? Does the save file vanish when I uninstall a game?
Custom Soundtracks - where did all the useful features like this vanish to?
Always Online - even though it technically isn't, it is. Games get patched all over the place just to be playable. Also, the last time I tried in December, if you had a passkey on your account (so others in your household couldn't buy using your info in case it was stored on the console) you couldn't log in offline because passkey authentication was serverside
Demos - a staple in trying out games last gen, and also demolished the rental market, where are they now? Other than EA Sports...

Right now, "not worth the price" sums it up for me. Also I found Heroes of Might and magic 3 complete/ Lords of magic special edition. So those will hold me well til something good comes up.

I have yet to be given a solid reason to switch to the current generation of consoles. The closest reasons I've had were Rayman Legends before it went multi-plat and Star Wars Battlefront before EA/DICE confirmed that it's gust going to be Battlefield: Star Wars. So until someone comes out with a game that I absolutely have to have I won't switch.
