Disappointing.

One word to sum it all up.

I haven?t bought a XO yet due to lack of reason to do so. And my PS4 is collecting dust.
There is at large simply nothing for me to play on consoles.
The stuff that interest me is either disappointing (Destiny, The Order 1886) or comes for PC as well (Alien Isolation, Dragon Age Inquisition, Witcher 3).
All the big titles get pushed back (The Division, Halo 5, Quantum Break, Uncharted 4).

Almost two years in and I own 1 full price PS4 game?

Got a PS4.

Here's what I have, or what I will get:

Assassin's Creed Black Flag, Assassin's Creed Syndicate
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain
Final Fantasy XV
Shadow of Mordor
Far Cry 4
Bloodborne
Guilty Gear
Persona 5
Tekken 7

As far as I'm concerned, that's a fairly decent spread of games coming out and I'm happy with it. I got the PS3 when that first came out, and I remember everyone constantly saying it was pointless because it had no games; now it has a fantastic library, and the PS4 has in the past few years released or will release a good game for my big three franchises (Metal Gear, Assassin's Creed, Final Fantasy) so I'm happy with it.

Games are only getting better and more beautiful and more interesting; the PS4 covers the AAA, the PC covers the Indie and the older games getting redone.

Reading this thread just makes me think of music fans who hate the modern music and don't understand that they're no longer the target audience.

I have a WiiU, my flatmate has a PS4 and there are quite a few games we have enjoyed and several coming up so, for the most part, it's pretty good so far.

That's a nice ignorant way to put it. It's more that these people see most of these new games are not worth the money, some even saying they were disappointed for what they got or were waiting for.

I have a PS4 and if not for the fact I never owned a PS and have been playing the older games on the digital rent I would have nothing to play. Maybe I'm getting old or this gen has suck worst then an over powered vacuum.

Bloodborne was really the first game to make it worthwhile for me. Pretty graphics and excellent gameplay.

On second thought, never mind - I see above that the availability of Halo CE and Halo 2 on PC has rendered consoles obsolete.

Yep you pretty much summed my thoughts as well, whats more painful is that this gen only 1.5 years old and ones crying about it are either kids whos first system was a 360/ps3 or bitter slef loathing gamers who only have the energy whine and moan but not enough to go find a new hobby.

Last gens launch and before that: argh thers no games

this gens launch: ewww these games suck....worst gen ever!!! lol

Well when the target audience is lowest common denominator it's no surprise that so many modern AAA games (and modern pop songs) are insipid and derivative and generally smack of executive meddling.

Disappointing, for all the hollering about exclusives 'each side' of the 'console race' there's not many to be had (except the WiiU maybe). Other than this, most of the 'must have games' seem to be PC ports er, I'm sorry- "remastering/definitive editions" with a hefty price tag back on them. Yes, I'm aware work goes into them but when (at the time) Tomb Raider was $7.50 on PC and $60 on PS4 and it's superior on PC it's a BIT hard to swallow.

Seriously, I love my old consoles, I really do I recall games that made me want them big time and I wasn't disappointed. FFVII for PS, GTA3 on PS2, Metroid Prime on GC, Gears of War/Dead Rising on 360, Uncharted on PS3... I look at the games on offer now on shelves and it feels like they've just launched yet they've been out for ages. Nothing is interesting, I've found far more on offer on handheld interesting.

The last gen even handled the remasters better, God of War Collection nets you EVERY God of War game on PS2,PSP,PS3 and it was 40 bucks, the PSP games even had their controls re-sorted for the extra buttons on PS3. Now they're putting God of War 3 on PS4 and I'm sure the price is going to be a joke.

No backward compatibility, that completely blew my mind, it's still mind boggling how stupid this is, yes, I've heard the excuses and frankly considering all the past devices that sported them and still do, I don't frankly care. Consoles are supposed to be upgrades, not side-grades where you need your old and new system to enjoy what's what. Whatever, see Yahtzee's rantings on this for more detail. Frankly I'm sure someone is thinking about quoting me to tell me how it was removed to save the consumer money- when now you can't sell your PS3 to get a PS4 to save money on the upgrade and just play on that device.

Now you gotta just drop 400 bucks and that's that, unless you're just done with past gen, which I hear this often then years later "I miss that game on that system a lot...wish I could play it again but ..."

Look, I'm sure someone's reading this and thinking how much they've gotten out of their console and that's great for you but I'm talking about what I see.

Question...did you list CoD Ghosts because it's better than Blops2 or because you haven't played Blops2?
I have Blops2 for PS3. Ghosts was new and I had it for no system, so, I saw it cheap on Amazon and got it and was wowed: while weaker than the PS4 and XB1, the Wii U still smoothed the jaggies and was very bright compared to PS3 Blops2.

Super Mario 3D World
Watch_Dogs
ZombiU
These are on my radar. Watch_Dogs in particular in that Amazon has it cheap and while it might disapoint at $60, it certainly looks worth $15ish.

I own Wolfenstein: The New One on the PS3 and it's my favorite shooter on that console.
I'll pick it up for PS4 when it hits $20. It looks like fun.

1. Ghosts on Wii U???? Is that even... good compared to another platform?
I got these great controllers, in some ways, the best of Gen 8:

It makes it great. Advanced Warfighter on PS4 is, so far, better though.

3. Sunset Overdrive, not Sunset Boulevard.
OOops. Blvd is a great old movie :) Day 3 and I haven't gotten to even try it yet! Kids won't let me near. They are too busy grinding on Forza 5.

Bayonetta 2 - as close to a perfect action game as possible, so far
I hear it is very much like Bayonetta 1, which I have on PS3 and haven't even close to finished yet. I'll still likely pick it up when it hits $15 on Amazon.

PSTV
Remote Play - better than having a second PS4 in the house. Cheaper too
Plays VITA games - sometimes VITA games are just more fun to play sitting back in a comfy chair
This did not work out for me. PS4 remote play was so laggy (for me and my mandatory setup) it was unplayable. And it was really, really way too bad that I would have to rebuy games I already owned to play it. I guess for piracy reasons, that's they way it has to be. ITMT: I Have steam accounts all over the place. I think a great entertainment center PC is in my future for single player games.
Titanfall - made me, a primarily solo gamer, play online
LOL, me too! I play the PC version. Best game of its kind I've ever played: and I have Destiny for PS4.

====================================================================================================

DOWNS
Wii U
Replacement tablet - can I even get one?
I dunno. Great question. And you have to have one.
PS4
Storage - only 500GB when mandatory installs tend to range from 10 to 50GB per game
Gulp. That's my complaint about XB1. I haven't checked what is left available on my PS4. I already have a dozen games and downloads. I better check ASAP.

VITA
Proprietary charger - if you lose it, prepare to spend a lot on it
Storage - extremely overpriced proprietary memory cards. 32GB for $80???? Are you for real Sony?
new model, inferior screen - to reduce costs associated with making it, they got rid of the OLED display... but at least they switched to a micro USB charger so I guess that makes up for it
I got the 64 Gig for about $108: almost double non-propietary. Sucks.

I'm liking Nintendo's offerings, but other than that I don't think there should BE a Gen 8. At least not one like there is now. We got all the graphical power we needed back on the GameCube and storytelling was done well as early as Missile Command. Now we should be focusing on programming and game design, not rendering every pore in Bluray 3D HD 1080p 60fps and charging £5 for each one.

I would strongly recommend ZombiU which I bought on day one for $60 and was reasonably happy with. At this point it's less than $15 on Amazon because nobody bought it. It looks like Left 4 Dead but it's really a first-person survival horror game. Actual survival horror, with item management and the possibility of death with a single zombie-bite. At this point if you (or anybody really) own a Wii U but not ZombiU, it's high time to fix that.

If it wasn't for Bloodborne and wanting to go through a Souls game blind, I would have waited for price drops and more games before caving. Luckily I got it with Bloodborne and the Last of Us in a deal, so I didn't send TOO much money comparatively. Dammit From! Your fantastic game broke my resolve. Bastards.

Honestly this gen seems barely worth it so far (in fairness, it's only been a year and a half). The marginal improvements haven't really produced anything all that mind blowing in any aspect. I expect we'll see some actual cool things done with the extra horsepower once everyone gets over the pretty picture parade.

If your asking for the WOW factor? Yeah, Gen 8 isn't really doing it for me honestly. I mean, a lot of what made the other generations cool was that there was a huge noticeable improvement in graphical fidelity. Now though we've practically hit that spot. I mean, when the most heated debates between a console is shit like fps, and resolution you know we don't have much to talk about.

All in all I've gotten a lot out of my Wii U, and Bloodborne is about the only game on another console that I would want to get. Too bad the PS4 has that online payment stuff. Maybe next generation we can agree that maybe games should focus more on being fun as heck as opposed to jerking off to graphics and lighting effects.

Lack of charger - in its arrogance, Nintendo assumes all people getting a new 3DS will already have a 3DS and so can use a charger from that since the new 3DS doesn't come with this 20 dollar necessity
If your spending $20.00 on a charger for the New 3DS you are doing something very, very, very wrong. I didn't spend a dime on one. (Which in all honesty is because the N3DS is compatible with chargers dating all the way back to the DSi and I had plenty of those lying around.)
You shouldn't be spending more than $7.00 on one.

Well, if you want to know what I thought of Gen 8 when the games and consoles were rolled out I'll tell you; I immediately went and bought a PS3 and some games for it I had missed the previous gen.

There's just no killer app(s) as far as I'm concerned, no games that make you go 'Wow! They couldn't have done anything like this on the old hardware.' Shadow of Mordor maybe, but i ain't buyin a new console just for 1 game.

As for game prices, I think people are always looking for the next big thing. Games have a window in which to make big bucks. After that, they need something to attract attention. Anything they earn after that window is gravy. Check out the Steam sales. $5 for Games that cost $60 18 months earlier, even if they did well in sales.

Still, like Mario Kart and Smash Bros, some games you want on release. I got both of them fast. Max Payne 3? Waited some and got it for a bargain, even though it did reasonably well on release.

Nothing worth buying a new console for. Especially when a lot of peoples favorite titles tend to be re releases and those also released on last gen titles. Though i think this christmas will be a time to buy a new console. New Deus Ex, The Witcher 3 and maybe Fallout 4 among others.
