I'm only gonna do this gen because if I didnt it'd take me too long to think of anything.

Oblivion
Heavy Rain
Final Fantasy XIII

Those are my favourite single player games of this gen, not in any order.

In order-- Knights of the Old Republic, Tales of Symphonia, and... Well, that's where it gets tough. The last spot could easily be taken by The World Ends With You, Okami, Mass Effect 2, Red Dead Redemption, BioShock, Star Fox Adventures, one of the original Spyro games, or an entry in the Metal Gear Solid series. And seriously just after typing that I realize that it is not any of those games. Donkey Kong 64 takes the final spot.

And, uhh... Robbie McLennan? I believe I may have just incidentally reported you. As I was typing, my arm slid across on my laptop's mousepad and it landed right on the "Report" thingy. Erm... I apologize for that if any harm was done.

EDIT: Heavy Rain's another great one.

Tombraider 2 - No surprises here... but this game is and always will be the BEST 3rd person action adventure ever made. This game takes you across the globe, has you traverse through huge levels, take on ridiculous enemies from dobermans to an Abominable snowman, completing clever puzzles and platforming sections and gives you a tasty array of weaponry for dishing out the punishment.
And the Uncharted games don't and won't even come close to this level of awesome.

Metal Gear Solid 2 - My first MGS and IMO quite possibly the best. If you get past moaning about Raiden then this game is phenomenal. The amount of effort that has been put into this game is staggering, from the voice acting to the set pieces the game is brilliant. Plus it has the most secrets and hilarious codec messages than any other MGS.

Final Fantasy VII - Just read what OP said he sums it up fairly well. :)

Holy Crap. You freakin' rock. You actually ninja'd my entire list in the correct order.
Maybe Siren in place of Parasite Eve, but eerie none the less.

I'm a single player kind of gamer so narrowing it down to 3 is really really hard.

Metal Gear Solid 3
GTA San Andreas
Mafia

I'm not even sure about these 3 because my other favorite games are from Hitman series, Splinter Cell series, the rest of GTA games, Mass Effect series, Assassin's Creed series, Half Life series, TES Series, Max Payne 1 and 2, Deus Ex, DMC series, God of War 1 and 2, Mafia 2, Just Cause 2, Dragon Age, Bioshock 1 and 2, Arkham Asylum, Shadow of the Colossus etc.

Jesus Christ there's just so many games that I absolutely love!

Haha. It's to hard to choose, so I'll just write three really good single player games.

Dragon Age: Origins - The campaign along with DLC and Awakening is awesome! (Or Mass Effect 2 here =))

Half-Life 2 with episodes

GTA IV

Cool, I actually bought Siren but I haven't had time to play it.

Easy; Half-Life 2, Portal, and Call of Duty 4. All three of those games have great stories with awesome characters, great gameplay, and a perfect balance between the story and the gameplay. What more could I ask for?

Silent Hill 2. I consider it a must play for everyone.

System Shock 2. The sequel and successor to the greatest game ever. I feel sorry for people who weren't around when video games were this good.

Mass Effect. A great RPG with a massive amount of depth and design. Sure it has a few flaws in the gameplay, but the storytelling experience is damn near perfect.

Mass Effect 2 - Purely Brilliant Story, Brilliant Gameplay and 20 action-filled hours = One epic game.

Oblivion - The MOST FUN I've EVER HAD with a video game. Screw the Story, the side quests are incredibly fun and rewarding.

Portal - Short, Funny as f*ck, Epic, Creative, Requires you to think. Brilliant game!

Yep, I have mixed tastes.
I have to admit I preferred the first Shadow Hearts game, but hell, those two games were good!

hmm, I'll go with

1) Shadow of the Colossus (beat for the first time today...wow)
2) Kingdom Hearts (combat... so... fun..!)
3) Silent Hill 2 (atmospheric and scary, what more could you ask for?)

Infamous- Loved the story and the game play was pretty much exactly what it needed to be.
Saint's Row 2- The mindless fun GTA4 should have been but wasn't because of the realism.
GTA3- The game that pretty much kicked off the whole idea that mindless fun = awesome.

Breakdown
This is the first time I've heard of anyone beside myself having played these games. (Also wish they would make Breakdown 2, but tighten the controls)

OT: Metro 2033 (As said before, atmosphere)
Morrowind (Need I say more? This is what Oblivion should have been.)
Breakdown (excellent story and character interaction)
