1.Pokemon Black actually the entire main game series in general Blue, Silver, Ruby and Plantium I loved them all.

2.Resident Evil 2.

3.Shadow of Rome.

4.Bioshock.

5.New Super Mario Bros.

That being said...Galactic Civilizations II: Endless Universe...
Is probably my top pick just because of how many DAYS/weeks(?) I've sank into the game.

Well, I've only just started broadening the variety of games I play, so I'm sure a few more will muscle their way into the top 5 within the next year or two. As it is now, though:
1. Silent Hill 2
2. Riven
3. Ico
4. Final Fantasy XI
5. Machinarium

In summary: lonely, atmospheric games with no/little HUD, a muted, earthy color palette, sparing use of music which is generally ambient, little to no dialogue, and a focus on puzzles rather than combat. (Except for FFXI, but I just have severe Stockholm Syndrome with that game.)

I'm expecting Guild Wars 2, The Last Guardian, Journey, and Botanicula to be strong top 5 contenders, but I can't imagine anything shaking my numbers 1 and 2 from their position.

I imagine I'd also really enjoy the Prince of Persia series, so I guess I should go look for those.

Definitely more great games I'm leaving out, but aside from the first three, they're all meshed together. Add the Portal series, Fallout 3, Star Wars Battlefront 2, and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City somewhere in there.

Edit: Also, I should toss in a game from the 1st or 2nd generation of Pokémon games. Silver or Blue or something.

Edit #2. Also, looking at other posts, I've totally forgotten Crash 2 (or three) and Spyro 3 (or two). Too many good games.

Actually, I would like to thank you for making me think about this. I'm installing Company of Heroes again right now.

1. Zelda Ocarina of Time
2. Doom 1/2 (this is what got me into PC gaming)
3. Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory (this is what got me into multiplayer gaming and it's still awesome)
4. Half-Life 2 (this reinforced my love for PC gaming)
5. World of Warcraft (take that as you will, this is the first MMO I've ever played and although I don't play it anymore, I just can't dismiss it)

There are other amazing games that I consider some of the best I've ever played.

Honorable mention goes to:

*Metal Gear Solid (up there in my top 5, along with Ocarina of Time)
*Silent Hill 2 (I think that any person that loves SH2 knows why everyone else loves it)
*Resident Evil 2 (The first game was crap, there, I said it, but the second was much more scary, longer and a bit less silly)
*Fallout 3 (I've played Oblivion before and I liked it, but Fallout 3 was simply better)
*Borderlands (Diablo who?)
*Metroid Prime (I never thought that any game could top Super Metroid, I was wrong)
*Eternal Darkness (By today's standards, this game isn't even scary anymore, but it still holds an amazing story)
*Team Fortress 2 (although I never played it that much, you've got to admit the impact it has made in the industry)
*Guild Wars (yup, you can't jump; yup, you can't swim; yup, you can't hold more than 8 skills at a time, but still this is an amazing game overall and I loved it's difficulty, it actually made me think before acting)

And many, many more I may forgot about, but I still enjoyed a lot, but I'm just too lazy to name them all.
