Why can't everyone people follow the quality of the OP? Please don't just put a list and move on, anyway:

5. Devil may Cry 4: While this hits bottom of my list I still adore the game. Nero really brought a spark to the series that I feel it needed. The game had grown old with the same moves and abilities throughout all of them and bringing in a new character so different really shook things up, and while some people will disagree I think Nero is one of the best things to happen to the series, better than Vergil who despite being different I couldn't shake the feeling that he was just Dante with different weapons. My biggest complaint with this game would simply be that it's too easy, even on Dante must Die mode I only went game over no more than two times.

4. Gears of War 2: It's no secret to people on these forums that I love the Gears of War series and the sequel really ironed out some of the big complaints that I and many others had with the original. The problem is that all these new additions bring new complaints and new problems. I really feel that this could have been my favourite game of all time if only the problems such as the lag, headshot recognition and even the smaller planned additions like the extreme stopping power was taken away.

3. Oblivion: I love this game; I love it so much I bought it twice. Once for my xbox and once for my Pc, I regret neither purchase. The story is captivating, the options are never-ending and right from the character creation screen you are given all the choices you could want. From a brave knight to a dirty thief or even both if you so wish there are really no restrictions in what you can do.

2. Devil may Cry 3: Special Edition: As I have already said adding Vergil as a playable character to this game didn't revolutionise the series but that doesn't take away from the fact that if that didn't happen Nero probably wouldn't have been created and we would still be forced to play as Dante for everything in the game. Don't get me wrong I love this game, it's second on my list while it didn't bring a complete overhaul to the series it did give the addition of real time weapon switching and different styles. Both of which add so much more to the game and without them I wouldn't love this game like I do. It's challenging fluid and the boss fights are fun, the three fights with Vergil are some of my favourite boss fights of all time.

1.Gears of War: This game has frustrated me to no end. From instant sniper kills if you hit your opponent in the toe, to the host advantage and the poor headshot recognition. But there is something magical about this game a certain Je ne sais quoi. Something that kept me playing it for almost 3 years, having a good team at your side and going against another team of the same skill is possibly the best gaming experience of my life.

Counting Down

5 Bioshock

Great Atmopshere and a very surprising twist before the end

4 Portal

Wasn?t sure how I was going react to this when I loaded it up the first time but it quickly became my favorite part of the orange box. Also wail short the extra hard challenge rooms are addicting.

3 Metal Gear Soild 3

Bewteen this one and 4 was a hard choice but I picked number 3 because of the setting, a much more intersting story, prehaps the best set of boss charcters, and the James bond styel Opening after the first level got me hooked.

2 Kingdom Hearts ( Series )

Execlent story and use of charcters from the imeanse libary of Final Fantasy and Diseny make for one Unforgettable ride.

1 Final Fantasy VIII

In my own personal opion the best final level and perfectly orchestrated final battle out of all the final fantasy games I've played. In the others I felt that the final battle ended to quickly before it began and even though I thought Serphrioth( Is that Spelled right) From seven was a much better villan the final battle againsit him felt way to Anticlimactic. Also eight's version of omega is without question still the hardest boss I have ever faced which is way I give this one my top spot.

5. God of War
Featuring a large variety of obstacles and environments, a combat system with just the right level of depth, enormous, intricate puzzles, and the most intriguing story I have seen in a video game, God of War challenges both your hands and your mind, while giving a sense of epic-ness the entire time.

4. Halo 2
The original Halo was one of the first games to feature its regenerative health system, and Halo 2 continues this, forging many prolonged yet non-stalemate firefights, especially on close-quarters maps. There are many excellently designed levels, especially when you add the Multiplayer Map Pack. A big part of shooter games is the weapons, and while a few of those in Halo 2 are redundant (i.e. Beam Rifle, Brute Plasma Rifle, Carbine), most are unique and purposeful. The Plasma Pistol and 'Rifle in particular are very interesting in that they have a unique reloading system, one which I have seldom seen outside of the Halo series. While the campaign is quite lackluster, especially in comparison to the first game, everything it lacks is made up for by the multiplayer.

3. Super Smash Bros. Melee
As an amalgam of other Nintendo franchises, the character roster is very diverse. While I can't say each one is unique, or balanced, there's a favorite waiting for everyone. The levels are all unique and well-designed, and random item spawns add to the excitement. The single-player aspects of 'Melee are very shallow, but the multiplayer alone is more than enough. It's wacky fun that can leave you and your friends laughing more than playing.

2. Super Smash Bros. Brawl
While the stages and items in 'Brawl are quite lacking compared to its predecessor, the items are just as customizable as ever, there is a level editor, albeit unsubstantial, and several stages ported from 'Melee. In addition, the greatly improved characters make up for faults in other fields. There is a total variety of 37 characters, with significant alterations to recurring 'clone' characters from 'Melee (i.e. Captain Falcon/Ganondorf, Falco, Young Link, Luigi, Roy-Ike). The character roster overall has the ideal trait of 'equally overpowered'. Despite the similar mechanics and franchisal association, 'Brawl is a very different game from 'Melee (and from the original). 'Brawl is not the kind of game you can just go nuts with the settings on and laugh at the wacky antics of it and the players. It's more of a competitive, test-of-skill type of game. That said, it still does its job excellently.

1. Halo: Combat Evolved
The weapons are all unique, there's just the right amount of them, and they're surprisingly balanced (though the pistol and Needler are big exceptions) given the presence of snipers and explosives. Grenade arcing is intuitive yet unrealistically versatile. Like with its aforementioned successor, Halo's shield system, combined with close-quarters environments spawns many long, yet wholly exiting firefights. The design is consistently superb on every level, albeit a bit repetitive in the campaign. As is the case with the four above examples as well, the graphics and music are excellent. I have to put this at #1 simply because it excels in all fields - while the above four games have either a great single-player/campaign or great multiplayer, Halo has both.

I have to admit, the magic combat was much better, no having to switch between swords and spells.

Also, what do you mean by 'streamlined'?
That they basically made things simpler to do. Less of a hassle to fight, travel, get quests, and so forth.

1. Baldur's Gate II: This is one of those rare sequels that not only lives up to its potential, but even manages to outshine the original (though just barely). The story is gripping and engaging from the first moment, the characters are quirky and unique, and the world is full realized. Talk about immersion! This series managed it without killer graphics or modern gimmicks, it was just plain good. And 10 years after its release, the modding community is still active.

2. Baldur's Gate: Obviously. This was where the magic really began. BioWare proved a good D&D RPG could be ported to the PC. And as with its sequel, the heart of the game was in its story and characters. BioWare proves games are art. Baldur's Gate played like a great fantasy epic come to life.

3. Mass Effect: Alright, I'll come out and say I'm a BioWare fangirl. A few of my friends disliked ME for its clunkier combat system, but I adore the game. It plays like an interactive movie, and I think everyone who played it the first time experienced some amount of awe at the scope and imagination of the story. Once again, the writing is first rate, and the characters drive everything forward. It's a rare game that produces an emotional response from its players, but this game had me paralyzed with a few decisions and really regretting my actions. Great job, BioWare!

4. Sonic and Tails 2: I wasted a lot of time on this one as a kid. I just recently picked up the Sonic Genesis pack for the 360 and discovered the game is still addicting. This was by far the peak of the series, a great platformer that's been delighting and frustrating fans for decades.

5. Fallout: The original, the best. This one was a toss up between Fallout and KOTOR, with Fallout edging out the competition on account of its very unique set of humor that really had be laughing out loud a few times. And yet the game also managed its moments of darkness and fear. Again, a game that elicits genuine emotion is rare enough. A game that can go from funny to poignant is rarer indeed.

5. Beyond Good and Evil. Oftentimes when a game tries to blend stealth, puzzle-solving, adventure game-style item exchanging, generic Zelda crap, and a half-decent combat engine, it ends up being a clumsy juggling act. This one actually works, except for the twist at the end in regards to your main character and her mysterious past. Stupid.

4. Lego Star Wars. I grew up on Lego. Shut up.

3. Red Moon. Flash game which almost makes me wish I had the attention span to play the prequel games, but I won't because you can't save. Anyways, Red Moon has purty good platforming and some sweet combat, but it's a little too easy to charge up the Super Kill Everyone move.

2. Karoshi. You have to applaud a guy who sits down and says, "Okay, if there's one thing the games industry lacks, it's suicide sims." And then, using only a thirty dollar piece of software and more creativity than one brain can safely hold, he created a platformer where, instead of avoiding the metal spikes, you're trying to solve puzzles to get to them.

1. And the Best Game Evar is...Shadow of the Colossus. I remember reading a book on game design and being taught that there are four Pillars of Play that must all be mastered to produce a truly great videogame: Art, Sound, Programming and Design. Now let me dissect them all in order:

Art: The soft lighting effect gives this game a unique look, realistic enough to suck you in, but stylistic enough to remind you that this is a fairy tale and wonder can happen at any turn.

Sound: A slowly building string section as the giant evil sea monster swims around the lake shall become a pumping brass battle cry when you grab on].

Programming: This is where the game comes closest to falling short, with its iffy camera and horse controls, but the horse feels like a real horse and the camera helps contribute to the cinematic gaming that this game is all about. The camera slowly tilting upwards towards the massive knight as he raises his tower-sword-thing to crush you, or whipping around as a giant bull tries to swing you off its head bring the massive size of the colossi to life.

Design: I saved the best for last. Sixteen massive creatures, each hidden throughout a massive land which spans throughout deserts, waterfalls, and great open plains. Though the boss battles, of which the game is almost solely comprised, offer evidence enough of great design, they take a back seat to simply riding around on your horse, looking for castles and buried ruins, climbing on top of altars and hunting for lizards and fruit. I've never made it to the Secret Garden, though I hope to someday.

hmm... what to choose.

In no particular order.

Contra [NES]
I played that game every lunch hour for four years of high school. Any game that I have cleared more than a thousand times deserves to be in the list.

Silent Hill [PSX]
I don't scare easily. This scared the shit out of me. It made my skin crawl every time I played it.

Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory [Xbox]
Metal Gear's controls were antiquated by this time. A solid story with excellent gameplay mechanics with the freedom to kill or KO either covertly or overtly.

Burnout: Takedown [Xbox]
Best racing game ever. The culmination of 2 previous attempts with solid on and offline racing. An awesome game for racing, AND partying as crash mode is addictive.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night [PSX]
In an era of 3D gaming becoming the norm, Konami proceeds to prove that 2D, if done correctly, is still awesome.

Wow, I just realized the variety in my favorite games ever. 1 is a 2-D happy platformer, 2 is an FPS/3PS mix where you shoot critters(live ammo) and has one of the best stories in gaming, ever, 3 is a action/hackslash monster, 4 is the best RPG I've ever played, plus it's also a fighting game, and 5 is a survival-horror/third-person action/first-person shooter hybrid.

6. MGS3: Snake Eater[PS2]
7. Super Castlevania IV[SNES]
8. Otogi 2[XBOX]
9. God Hand[PS2]
10. Double Dragon 2: the Revenge[NES]

6-10 are usually never the same. They change depending on what i've been playing lately from my old stash, since I consider all the games i still own after a year to be keepers for life, but the top 5 are solid, except for the occasional switch with NGB and OSW for 2 and 3. 1, 4, and 5 are definitely unmovable.

Good for you your aloud your opinion :) Although don't intentionally try to start a flame war about it
Hey I was trying to avoid a flame war. XD

Seriously everytime I say VIII is my favourite, I get someone saying "don't you mean VII?", and it descends into a dumb internet argument. I just wanted to be clear from the get go.
