Here's the scenario:

A person approaches you expressing interest in your preferred gaming platform (multiple platforms allowed if you can think of five for each). They ask you that if they were to buy said platform, what five exclusive games would you recommend for them and why?

Please try to avoid criticising other peoples choice of game or console, this is about what you would recommend, not what you think other people should.

EDIT: For the sake of argument, a PC and a Mac will both come under the same platform.

Xbox 360 (as far as I'm aware these are exclusives but given that there's also GFWL Microsoft may have put them on there as well:
Viva Pinata
Mass Effect
Condemned
Lost Odyssey
And since I feel I should use the XBLA in this as well...Fez.

PS3 (admittedly I don't play this nearly as much)
Heavy Rain
Metal Gear Solid 4
Journey
Ratchet And Clank HD Collection
Infamous

Wii
Super Smash Bros Brawl
Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Super Mario Galaxy
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

360:
Halo 3 (for multiplayer)
Gears 2 (for multiplayer)
Lost Odyssey (for those missing the older Final Fantasys)

Erm... there aren't that many brilliant exclusives for the Xbox are there?

Trials HD/Evolution I guess, that's a fantastic XBLA game
As is Spelunky.

Wii:
Twilight Princess
Super Mario Galaxy
Brawl
Monster Hunter Tri
Super Paper Mario

PC:
[Insert preferred MMO here] (GW2, WoW, RIFT, SWTOR, TERA blah blah blah)
Team Fortress 2
[Insert preferred Roguelike here] (Binding of Isaac, Dungeons of Dredmor, FTL blah blah blah)
CS 1.6/Source/GO
[Insert preferred MOBA here] (LoL, DotA, HoN blah blah blah)

I actually struggled a bit coming up with favourite exlcusives, I've actually just noticed that a lot of my favourite games are cross platform.

I am so bad at something like this but I'll give it a shot.

I guess I'll start with PS3 since that is the easiest, well PC is the easiest, but you know..

PS3:
-Heavy Rain
-Demon Souls/DarkSouls
-Metal Gear Solid Series
-Shadow of the Colossus/Ico
-Killzone Series, I guess

I am sure there are other, better exclusives for PS3 out there, but I haven't played them, and I don't think Uncharted series is worth getting a PS3 for. That is just me, I like the series, but I think the ones I named far surpass it. Also Demonsouls/Darksouls, I am aware Dark Souls is for PC also, but chances are if you are buying a console you don't have great PC and on average most people don't have a PC high perfomanced enough to run Dark Souls, and among the TV consoles Dark Souls IS an exclusive.

NEXT is PC. Arguably the best system, especially for exlusives. Yes PC's can be a pain in the ass, but with Steam PC gaming has become easier then ever. There are so many great PC exclusives i'll just name 5 of my favorites.

PC:
-KIlling Floor
-Civilization Series
-Total War Series
-Great indie and mod scene, like FTL, Binding of Issac, Trine, Magicka, Dear Esther, Super Meat boy, They bleed pixels, Terraria ect ,ect.
-League of Legends

Now I know a lot of the Indie games I mentioned are also out for consoles, but they are ALL out for PC and most arguably play better and cost less for PC. Also I would like to note Team Fortress 2 and Counter Strike, I know both are available for consoles now, but both play much better on PC, don't require a great PC and Team Fortress 2 is FREE on PC with more options and ways to play the game.

Xbox 360, this one isn't my favorite for exclusives, but it should be easy.

Xbox 360:
-Halo Series
-Gears of War series
-The first Mass Effect
-Fable series
...errr, actually Xbox Sucks for exclusives. Halo is the only exclusive I actually like and mostly for its Multiplayer. I actually think it is one of the greatest multiplayer games ever made, it is my for favorite. Might be because I grew up playing Halo multiplayer since Halo 1, who knows. I love it.

Wii!....uhg. The only reason I would ever buy a Wii is to buy the exclusives, I'll name the ones I would get.

Wii:
-Zelda Series, the main reason I would get a Wii.
-Both Resident Evil Zero and REmake, another great reason to get a Wii.
-Super Smash Brothers, buuuuuut only if you have friends. Really fun fighter, probably the best.
-Animal Crossing...yeah, buy this one if you DON'T have any friends...hehehe. Great Games.
-And maybe a few cool RPG's that you can't get on any other system, like Fire Emblem, The last story and Xenoblade.

I guess there is also the Mario games like Galaxy and New Mario bros, if that is your thing. Wii is my least favorite mainly because of the controller. Recommend a Gamecube controller lol.

  • Guild Wars 2
    League of Legends
MELTY BLOOD Actress Again Current Code
    Sid Meier's Civilization V
    StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty
All are rather big games in their respective genres (besides Melty T_T). If you're interested in Turn Based Strategy games, you'll definitely want to give Civ V a go. If you want to play an RTS, StarCraft II should be your first choice. If you're curious about the up and coming MOBA genre, League of Legends would be a good place to start learning. You know where I'm going with this.

Melty Blood is on the list because I love it so damn much. It's a hard recommendation to make to players who are inexperienced when it comes to fighting games, but it's worth a look if you've got fighting games 101 down.

Melty Blood shares many similarities with its peers, but it feels very unique. You'll find that pressure and movement in this game is different from most fighting games. If you're feeling adventurous, you should definitely give it a go.

I think he meant that all three Mass Effect games are on PC too. Although - thinking about it - the first Mass Effect was a Xbox360 exclusive for the first few months (before the PC port was released).

OT: Hmm. Going to need to have a think.

Well, this becomes hard as there are so many awesome exclusives on the PC. Some of my favourite exclusives however?
Hrmm...

Civilization IV
Best game in the Civilization series, especially with the Beyond the Sword Expansion. Great depth and tons of mods. It is the must have 4X turn based strategy game IMO.

Starcraft 2
One of the most polished RTS out there. Sadly a lack of LAN support and decent single player drag it down a bit, but it is an amazing game and a staple of the PC as a platform.

Battlefield 2
Whilst if I remember correctly there is a game on consoles that shares a name with this title, it is not the same game at all, hence PC exclusive [And I'm not just talking about player limits and graphics, I mean a totally different game. Genre is almost all it has in common]. A great FPS title that I prefer to BF3. It has single player and multiplayer, and a lot of community content as well.

Diaspora
Whilst technically a modification of Free Space 2, Diaspora is a fairly recent Freeware Indie Space Combat simulator set in the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica universe. Very fun to play, and comes with its own map designer so you can design your own missions. Very fun to play, if a bit unstable and buggy at times.

Magicka
A lot lighter compared to the other games in terms of atmosphere, and insanely fun and engaging. Indie game dedicated to screwing around with magic and going on an adventure that really doesn't take itself seriously. Funny, fun, and not as easy as it would at first seem, and a very enjoyable game overall.

I didn't see him say WINDOWS PC. He said PC. That includes Macs. Mac is simply an OS on the machine, and a manufacturer of some [severely] overpriced prebuilt PCs. If it were on an Ipod, or an Ipad, I might see some argument here, but its not, its on Mac PCs, which still fall under the PC label.

While yes you have a point PC does originally mean just personal computer that covered the entire spectrum of computers, nowerdays PC is generally considered as a windows machine. PC, Mac, Linux etc. are generally considered different platforms, you cant buy a game for say PC and automatically be to run it on a Mac for example, just as you cant buy a console game for a xbox 360 and automatically be able to run it on a PS3 because their both consoles right.

Like I said, as far as I was aware they were exclusives and Mass Effect was when I bought it. Like Viva Pinata was when I got it as well, but I also said they may now be on PC which they are.

In a burst of pedantary I am going to suggest Civ 5 is actually turn based strategy and not real time. I fully agree it is the best in the series, some people go for IV but Gods and Kings swung it for me.

The PC is great for strategy generally, the sort of games consoles can't handle due to the pad controls and disk space/memory/graphics power issues. Total war, Supreme Commander that sort of thing.
Oh derp. I did 100% mean 4X turn based strategy, just looking at Starcraft, Rise of Nations, Rise of Legends, Age of Empires and everything else on my shelf whilst writing that post :p

Something I'd personally love to see is Civ IV BTS mixed with 5's Gods and Kings expansion. Both IV and V did separate things really well, and if they bring them together in VI [Which I have little doubt probably already exists in early development] it could be amazing.

True, however you can buy a game on one disk that will run on Linux, Windows or Mac, whilst you can't do that for Xbox, PS3 and Wii. With a PS3/Xbox/Wii you'd have to buy the disk for that platform, whilst with a PC game you buy the PC disk and if you have a Mac PC [And the game is compatible], you can run it on that, or if you have a Windows PC it'll run on that, and rarely if you have a Linux machine and its compatible it'll run on that. Now Windows Disk, Mac Disk and Linux disk for the same game.
They're the same platform, just different specializations IMO, with Windows being the closest to a dedicated gaming platform, though hopefully that'll swap to Linux soon. Windows keeps looking worse and worse IMO, and Mac... I'm not going to go there.
