I would, but since I live in a place with virtually no natural predators, I've gotten used to things not trying to kill me, and not having to check my shoes for deadly spiders every time I put them on.

Sseriously. Australia has some freaking scary insects. And I think house spiders are big. If I went to Australia, I'd probably have a heart attack from shock/horror. ;P

I love D&D and Magic - so running a hobby shop seems up my alley since I can talk my hobby with people and play in local tournaments/judge them. This is probably as close to a dream job as I could want.

The reality is to start a job like this I'd have to work 16+ hour days for 10 years to hopefully get to a point where I'm financially stable and comfortable. Some of my customers would be good people but many of them would likely annoy the hell out of me and just hang out all day long. The reality and work involved for something like this to work would pretty much destroy any love I had for those hobbies as well as my ability to have a proper life outside of work.

In short...there is no dream job I know of that would suit me nicely. As is I work part-time as an entry level customer service rep in a call center. My seniority ensure that I get nearly perfect part-time hours...so aside from earning little more than $11.00 an hour, I'm pretty much living my dream job now. Hence why I have no plans to go for promotions or search for different lines of work.

We have no natural predators, our largest animals are all herbivorous (with the notable exeption of crocodiles, but they only live up north and not near major cities).

I'm not sure if you're joking, but I don't know where this "Australia is dangerous" shit comes from.

I've not seen a spider for at least a month and that was the only spider I've seen since moving into this apartment. Which I've lived in for a year, and is in a rather well foliaged area.

I've not seen a snake since I left Queensland (it's a northern State) and that was '09.

I don't see what people think we do, we don't have much other than birds and domestic animals (pets) in our cities.

I mean, sure there's sharks, but it's cold as fuck in the ocean and there's pools around.

EDIT The spider was smaller than the nail on my smallest toe. I don't think it could kill a small rodent, let alone a human.

I was having a discussion with a couple friends of mine last night while playing Risk (don't ask why we were doing that while a PS3 sat unused, we don't even know) and we ended up discussing what our ultimate dream/fantasy job would be.

You know, like... if you were offered the chance at and job in the world (and you would actually be able to do it) what would you choose. This thread has probably been done (so it'll probably die on its arse), but I thought it was interesting enough to open up to general forum discussion.

So what is your ultimate dream job?

Personally, I have 2:

1) Professional wrestler: I'd just love to do this for a living, to the point where I regularly just imagine doing it. But it requires skills and abilities that I just don't have. I mean, I'm already 20 years old and have had no training, I'm weak as hell and massively out of shape, particularly in the cardio department. Plus I'm a clumsy ***** and in the pro wrestling world, that shit can get someone seriously injured or worse. Plus I'm British and pro wrestling as I know it is a VERY American industry (I know there's wrestling promotions all over the world but the big league is WWE, which is American).

2) Writer: I'm actually convinced I might just be able to do this one (currently writing two stories), but it's a massive uphill struggle and a constant battle with my own imagination to reign it in, and with my attention span to keep myself focused.

Funny, like you dream job #1 is pro-wrestler though at this point in life I'm a bit over-age to start that now despite previous stints in the backyard/indie scene. Its a tough business to break into, tougher than pretty much anything else I would say. Beyond the physical aspect, it takes charisma, in-ring knowledge and versatility, a wealth of patience and most of all persistence. I'd love nothing better to do just that but the travel hours alone would be very stressful on my family who I love very much.
Also, like you, dream job number two is writing professionally. I've had a knack for writing since I was young, writing short stories in school and campaigns for D&D games as well as translating D&D games between my friends and I into episodic short stories. Again, another tough business to break into requiring persistence and patience. As of now I've probably submitted over 200+ stories but have yet to be published, and as of late been in a creative slump.
Dream job #3 is akin to #2, creative writing for video games. I've fleshed out quite a few storyline/game-world pitches in the past few years but have yet to submit anything due to a lack of knowledge on how to go about that (plus I've no knowledge of how the whole intellectual property thing works for game design and would hate to see something I submitted become a game without gaining credit for my work...). Also, possibly writing for Wizards of the Coast designing D&D supplements would be awesome too.

I don't wanna be rich or famous for my work, just would like to do something I love instead of the shitty jobs I've had over the years... Its taxing working in fields you know you won't make a career out of and having to feed your family on salaries just above minimum wage.

Well, I've never seen a wild shark, snake, crocodile in my life. and that spider is probably about as big as a spider to freak me out. The tiny one are the one that really scrare me. they can scuttle around so fast and are really hard to track. Damn Phobia.

I'm sorry if I offended you or anything, but it's seems dangerous to me. And I tend to over anylze/ panic about things more than other people. It also might have something to do with leaving my comfort zone. i.e the North of England.

I don't know much about Golf, but there's a guy whose job it is to attend every major golfing tournament and announce the player names over a tannoy as they tee off. That's it. "Here's Tiger Woods." Rinse and repeat with a hundred other names and that's a day's work done. Job benefits? You get to travel the world for free and experience what it's like living and travelling first class, as all of your accommodation and such is paid for. Fantastic.

Lead Creature Designer and Art Director for an independent studio, be it games of films. I'm a concept art guy, I run a creature design competition on a prominent concept art site. I'm someone who finds that there is a lack of creativity in visual design for the triple A games industry and would like to try and start making a difference. That, to me, would be the greatest career I could hope for.
