In tribes2, having our base in katabatic completely and utterly demolished and dominated by the opposing team. They used all the tools at their disposal flawlessly. Bombers we could not hit who dropped carpets of bombs, tanks who bombarded us mercilessly, mortar teams nuking everything. Explosions everywhere. It was a glorious chaos. And i was on the receiving end!
X-Com. Its a bit old in my memory but ill try to remember. Mah base is under attack by aliens, i didnt have/take the time/ressources to change my setup for defenses so i have a few fronts to defend. However their movvment hint that their whole team is using only one front. Good. I got about 20 troops, about half of them with decent combat experience, the other half are fresh troops i got recently.
I take my experienced team equiped with better gear ( a number of blue armors, a bit of laser weaponry, a few without anything special) i wait at the main entrance, all set into varied positions so they cover eachothers, and i added a fews mines too to sweeten the deal.. More than half my team is standing there.
I leave my ill-equiped rookies behind, scattered around the base (where they spawned anyway), expecting a good'ol massacre when the aliens will try to walk into my main choke point.
And then it went bad. One of the aliens had a blaster launcher. (for those who dont know, its basically a redeemer; a manually controlled mini-nuke). Either that or they trew a alien grenade. The end result is pretty much the same: catastrophe.
It went right in the face of my elite group. BOOM! My mistake was to put them all close to eachother.
All the good ones are dead, those at the back are either down inured or fly in a complete panic. So its up to my rookies to save the base?!
And its just my luck that the ennemy are the little psychic dudes. Relatively quickly i lose a few of my rookies as they get psy-panicked into a corner, or just shot to death.
However some of the luckier member of the elite squad manage to calm down and hold what remains of the main entrance, supported by a few rookies that had to loot the corpses of their buddies for weapons.
One rookie accidentaly discovered that a few ennemies had spawned in the back door and sucessfully took them down, took a while however. Many shots were exchanged with near misses.
In the end, i managed to hold my base, the main entrance was a complete mess (but didnt collapse), i must have lost 15 of my 20 mens. The few remaining rookies saved the day (somehow). It was fun.
