Americans: The only idiots who would willingly live on an area called "Tornado Alley".

Pretty much sums it up.
Any worse than the ring of fire that includes a good chunk of eastern Asia? Besides, beautiful country in Tornado Alley.

Awesome *The more you know*,

I completely agree with your assessment of Bush Jr. that can be summed up with Bush Jr = Terd Sandwich that loves his oil (to paraphrase). But I have really been amazed that Phil Gramm and Clinton have not been called out by the mainstream media (people forget that Clinton was actually pretty conservative and shared a lot of economic views with Reagan, i.e. deregulation). Yes the housing bubble burst, but if the Glass Steagal Act was in place, the economy would have been fine (and the bubble would have never burst in the first place). And to make Phil Gramm look even worse, right after he repealed the Glass Steagal Act, he quit the senate and went to work for one of the mega banks that stood to greatly benefit from the repeal.

But like I said, it is not the only cause, but it is one big slice of the pie.

Americans: The only idiots who would willingly try to rebuild and reinhabit New Orleans

Pretty much sums it up.

Brilliant.
Look, I said we should abandon that awful spot for a city then I got shouted down as being a racist. It sinks by inches every year and is built on a sponge. Its also good to note that not every American lives in New Orleans.

Isn't most of Holland below sea level?
Yup, we're mostly below sealevel. The price is very high though, tons of taxes and infrastructure is present to maintain our lands. We're even well known for it by goverments all over : http://nola09.nytimes-institute.com/2009/05/29/new-orleans-finds-a-dutch-ally-in-fight-against-water/

Anyway, on topic: It's hard to get a non-biased opinion on the US , as most of the news that reaches the Netherlands about it isn't exactly very postive. Also when I browse the internet, there's just so much trashtalk by US citizens it's hard not to generalize.
There are things I dislike in/about the US, such as the Political Correctness hysteria ( black is now called "african-american", wtf), Christian Zealots pushing their stuff into schools, US dragging us into wars, and it seems sometimes that people in the US don't really care what's going on outside their country. But as some other poster said, every country has it's own problems. US is far from perfect, but so is basicly every country. Cept for the Scandinavian countries I guess, they're doing way to well :(

EDIT: I would like to add that the disaster Bush made a law which basicly said that if a US soldier is brought to the International court of justice in The Hague, he'll invade our country. I know, I know, the US will never actually do that (now that that idiot is gone), but I when I heard it I found it hilarious and scary at the same itme.

I'm not sure why these topics pop up? Two reasons I can't seem to understand the curiosity:
1) How is it that you care what people think about your chunk of dirt complete with laws?
2) How can people give a straight and consistent answer about it? There is thousands upon thousands of things that is right and wrong with all countries. There is no country that is squeaky clean and no country that has no jewels within.

Most quotes on here are... I cannot understand them, and I'll leave it at that.

It's a country, with borders, and less and more intelligent people than other. Don't know anything about it.

I live in Denmark, and I have never been to the US, but I'll share my opinion anyway.

I think the American politics are a bit sad. In Denmark we generally vote for 8-9 different parties, sometimes more when new parties form and enters the election. In the US you either vote for the Republican Party or the Democratic Party, while smaller parties may exist, they don't have reasonable influence anyway. From my view that makes a place for hatred. You're either with the republicans or with the democrats, there's nothing in between or besides, instead of you having the ability to vote for different parties, with different views. With different parties you don't get the "black or white" view. You can choose between a wide variety of parties, that fits your ideology, and choose another next time, should their views fit better with yours. I mean, with only 2 major parties, it seams as some voters just agrees with everything their chosen candidates say and do, while their alternative is voting for the opposite party. And I see that some Americans(maybe not as many, as the media tells you) turn to extremes while trying to get voters, and bash their oppenent party. For example calling Barack Obama a left-wing socialist. Compared to Denmark, here he would more likely be called a right-ring conservative/liberal.

Sorry if my English is a bit messed up, I'm new here on the board, and I tried my best, I think :p

The USA: Canada's pants (and hat).

Seriously though, while this country does have it's issues, it is an objective fact that we make the bestest music.

A strange, albeit great nation. We may be a world superpower, but we've got a lot to learn, considering that we're still pretty puritan about stuff (politicians resigning just cause they bedded someone they weren't married to? Please, find a real reason to impeach) and we like to think that just because we've got the most technologically-powerful military that we can win any war we choose. But to be fair, we're ultimately misunderstood. Most of us aren't gun-toting, truck-driving Republicans, after the 8 years of Bush we all sat through, that man got 30% approval ratings and the GOP is now in the toilet.

Our society is weird and contradictory, we respect the man who settles issues of his own accord, yet our courts are packed with almost endless "I slipped on spilled tomato juice because I didn't see the wet floor sign and now I want enough money so that I don't have to work for a year!" California elects the Terminator to be governor and then asks why nobody takes it seriously. Our news programs show you stories about a 13 year-old boy who was kidnapped, raped, and then killed by some freakshow, only to then immediately change the story to one about baby pandas at a local zoo or maybe some bull about the latest celebrity whore who can't keep her legs shut getting another boyfriend.

By the way, re-read that law because that's not anything CLOSE to what you think it is. It means that we will represent them in court and we will support them, not fucking invade the country.
Christianity is being pushed OUT of schools, we can't call it Christmas break anymore because Christmas has the word "Christ" in it and we cant have a Christmas tree anymore, now we have to have a holiday tree with a Hanukkah bush and you have to understand that not everyone believes this way. A lot of people care what goes on in other countries its just that you guys get the filtered-rehashed CNN view about everything. When I went over to Germany I couldn't believe the amount of shit they said about us (Switzerland was the best with France being the worst by LEAPS and BOUNDS, they couldn't get a story straight if their entire stock of frogs legs depended on it). I don't formulate views about other countries based on what some internet guttersnipe says because its a waste of energy fighting with someone who never moves away from the computer and is socially jaded.

If you want to see what the country is REALLY like just come here and ask questions. The only 2 countries I have bashed without seeing are Russia and China and when I hear that the government in Russia supports people hacking American banks that pisses me off to no end. Its like if I hacked Swiss Bank accounts. Everyone would be like "WTF AMERICA!" but whenever someone else does it to us its OK. Its an awful double standard. Even on this website people get away with pissing on America every single day but when I want to complain about China's government I catch hell from all over the place.

It's...ok. I live in Canada so I have an outsiders view. But it seems that the majority of the people didn't manage to avoid the cesspool of idiocy. Hell, the republican politicians f***ing SWAM in it!

(I apologize to any and all Americans that are actually intelligent. Thank you for avoiding the cesspool)

As a resident of the UK and former DJ I would take great issue with that one for a start. You invented the best music, but you ain't the best at it.

Here in Germany many people see America as a country of a low educational level and of people who don't know how "bad" their country really is. Oftentimes it also gets criticized because it seems that it likes to interfere with things that aren't America's business.

Well, I don't care, I don't see America as the "bad one" or something like that. I have American pen pals and I want to visit it someday.
