I should point out I am not a fanboy, I've only played Modern Warfare and World At War on single player and I've enjoyed both games. The subject at hand is that lately C.O.D. is becoming a marmite franchise, Modern Warfare 2 especially with some people saying it's 'Teh Best Game EVAR.' (I will now punch myself for using that phrase) and others saying it's a steaming pile of monkey arse spunk. Judging the games as a whole - not campaign vs multiplayer or which developer is better - what are your feelings towards the franchise?

CoD 4 was the best of the franchise, Black Ops would be up there too if the maps weren't shit and they hadn't fucked sniping over.

I miss CoD 4... I traded it in for MW2.

I havent played a single one. I played a little MoH , the first two and the pacific assault (last one was fun, especially after having to read some extremely annoying japanfanboy threads on here)
CoD always seemed like, well, another one of those and the modern Szenario is just not my cup of tea. I would love a nice shooter with a good campaign in the napoleonic or american civil war times.

I never liked the series, but i disliked many of the things that its fans like it for.
Basically meaning the fact that you just run around shooting things.

Flip a coin:

Excellently inaccurate and potentially offensive to those who served within the second world war.

Or.

That groundbreaking, benchmark setting profit making story destroying gunplay with the odd terrorist and half a dozen masculine American voice actors with penises for necks, arms, legs, ears and penises.

10 points for the sarcasm spotting.

it is love or hate,

They're otherwise fun games that suffer from balancing and spawning problems.

I believe that the future of Call of Duty games lies solely on multiplayer. I wouldn't be surprised if CoD: MW3 is multiplayer only. I mean, single-player is regarded as an amazing experience but way too short (both for MW2 and Black Ops), while multiplayer keeps murdering the competition.

I'm not a big fan of that, but it's the way it seems to be going. I haven't bought MW2 or Black Ops because I never play multiplayer and US$60 (US$75 in my country) for a 5-hour long single player is just not worth it.

They're all pretty fun in single player. I haven't played the new one yet, but Cod 4 had the only decent plot out of the other 3. I never play online, it tends to get boring fast.

I'm the opposite to most people.
COD 4 wasn't all that great for me.
As annoying as it got sometimes, I actually kinda enjoyed MW2.
I missed WAW, and I haven't got Black Ops (BO?) yet.

They were all good (excluding MW2 of course that was horrible)but please no more, its reached its peak and I don't see how they can improve it. I don't want to spend £40 for another too short campaign and a multiplayer that's the same just with new maps. Let.It.Die. Go do something original

REALLY? I understand that FPSs, in general, aren't particularly accurate, but the weapons and tactics of the Civil War and Napoleonic Wars era don't exactly lend themselves to FPS translation. That would be one boring game.

OT: I never really took a whole lot of notice of them until the first Modern Warfare. I was always more of a fan of the old MOH series. That being said:

COD 4 was amazing.

WaW was absolutely AWFUL (I think people defend it to be contrarian)

MW2 had some balancing issues that were pretty much game-breaking.

I haven't played Black Ops because I've resolved to keep my money away from Activision from now on unless they give me a really good reason to give it to them. I haven't seen anything about the game that suggests its special.

Black Ops has been dubbed as BlOps (Blops! Geddit?) , because it sounds funnier that way.

OT: No matter what comes out, Call of Duty 2 will be my favourite, followed by CoD 4.

MW2 was a disappointment, close to CoD 3's level. Haven't played BlOps yet, will be picking up a copy on Wednesday.

Modern Warfare is my favourite game of all time. It has been hyped up a shitload because it's online gameplay is fun and addictive. I'm more of a single player person, but I think MW1 had the better campaign, coz MW2 had a pretty convoluted story line. One piece of dialogue was just stupid and made no sense, like the writers were trying to just make it epic. There was one part with this guy "raptor" who was apparently an HVI but it never is explained why, but I could let that fly. The dead HVI thing was kinda cool, but I'm hoping his death gets explained. Besides that I freakin loved MW2, it just seemed to have less soul than the first. I've only played the first 2 levels on Black Ops, and it is looking awesome so far, besides the kinda cartoony graphics. It's mainly making so much money because people are obsessed with the multiplayer these days. I like the mp, but I think the games stand up on their single player, even though the campaigns are criminally short.

The games themselves are fine. It's fun to run around and gun down people by the dozens. However the series really took a nosedive recently with all the focus on killstreaks.

Also, I don't support the idea that they release a new game every year with a minor update a la Fifa. I really hope more developers don't jump on this because then we will never see a great game like Enslaved again.

Most people I've seen hating on MW2 just seem contrarian to me... it's the most popular game of all time ffs

I think that it has some merits just as a game. I enjoy the single player although I find the stories to be a bit boring but still fun. The multi-player however is a different story. I do play it but it is only when I have nothing to do or have some excess agression. The community is what ruins it for me, it's toxic. There is no respect for the fellow player (this is common in most shooters but is especially bad for COD.) not to mention they tend to be a bunch of assholes.
