I really agree with both of you. I dislike the Call of Duty franchise because of those reason.

I haven't really gotten around to playing most of the games, but I don't like any modern shooter in general. I read about modern things enough in the news I don't need to have it in my entertainment.

I hate it! itd over rated and over priced. The singleplayer is WAY too short (on pretty much all of them) and people keep saying that I should get it for the multiplayer wich I also tried at a LAN party. its IMPOSSIBLE to destinguish team mates, enemies and the background from eachother.

Not really being a fan of multiplayer myself, I can safely say I'm not a fan of the CoD games.
I like exploration and discovery, with my games, and CoD certainly does not have that. The campaigns are so linear, scripted, and have you shoehorned into playing along with what is essentially a 5 hour scripted sequence it's ridiculous.

Modern Warfare just blew me away.

Call of Duty (the original) is the game I always use to make a case about how regenerating health is superior to health packs.

Modern Warfare 2 had the best vehicle sections of any FPS ever. Of all time.

But the Call of Duty series has never produced a truly in-depth game and seems to have spawned a fanbase composed mostly of tween-teen wankers who have never bothered to play any games EXCEPT shooters.

I stopped liking the franchise with MW2. It's all just too cliche. I was not able to enjoy the (idiotic) story. I'm hoping I will be able to give Black Ops a try at some point and possibly find some redeeming qualities.

I played COD 4 and the campaign was alright. I'm not a multiplayer person so I think the series is meh.

Most people I've seen hating on MW2 just seem contrarian to me... it's the most popular game of all time ffs
It took me half an hour of watching my friend play Modern Warfare 2 to realise that he wasn't playing COD4. Same with WAW and BlOps.

They are expansion packs which they can sell for the price of a full game because fans such as yourself will follow the adverts like a herd of sheep.

It sounds average to me. The games seem to be focusing more on Multiplayer than singleplayer as the series goes on (although I think Black Ops is different) and they're now going to be churning out a new game every year. Nothing special in terms of story and gameplay and from what I keep hearing, the community sucks.
I might give it a try, but I have to be bored of every single game I own before I'll go for it.

Cod 4 was a great game

CoD: Black Ops is fun but is experiencing some problems with multiplayer at the moment but they should be fixed in the upcoming patches. The maps kind of suck there is only like 3 I like so I hope they get a map pack out soon.

Cod: WaW remains my favourite still. It had a fun campaign and in my opinion the most balanced multiplayer. The original maps were fun and the map packs were also great.

CoD: MW2 was an abomination. The most rage-inducing multiplayer game I have ever played it was a broken piece of shit that should not have existed. Infinity Ward had great success with CoD 4 it was a step forward and then MW2 was like 10 steps back.

Overall they are great games with the exception of Modern Warfare 2.

It's probably fun online, but I rarely play online.
Seems to me like the COD franchise is just another generic run of the mill first person shooter. Personally I don't see what makes it so special. I can think of other first person shooters that do what COD does, except better.

The latest COD crushed all my hope that the series has anything of value to contribute to the evolution of videogaming. Turns out that, no matter how hard they try, Treyarch are still shit, and IW were the masters of the COD game + engine.

I havent played a single one. I played a little MoH , the first two and the pacific assault (last one was fun, especially after having to read some extremely annoying japanfanboy threads on here)
CoD always seemed like, well, another one of those and the modern Szenario is just not my cup of tea. I would love a nice shooter with a good campaign in the napoleonic or american civil war times.
REALLY? I understand that FPSs, in general, aren't particularly accurate, but the weapons and tactics of the Civil War and Napoleonic Wars era don't exactly lend themselves to FPS translation. That would be one boring game.

OT: I never really took a whole lot of notice of them until the first Modern Warfare. I was always more of a fan of the old MOH series. That being said:

COD 4 was amazing.

WaW was absolutely AWFUL (I think people defend it to be contrarian)

MW2 had some balancing issues that were pretty much game-breaking.

I haven't played Black Ops because I've resolved to keep my money away from Activision from now on unless they give me a really good reason to give it to them. I haven't seen anything about the game that suggests its special.
I dont care about too much realism. There was a very nice Half-life mod like that. Battlefields, Battlegrounds, something like that i think. I loved the game, The Mount and Blade Blackpowder Mod is also great fun. 6 out of 8 shots miss on long range and you have hell of a reloading time, but it makes the thing just more exciting, because every shot counts, plus you have nice melee. That with new tech, a good campaign and nice multiplayer, including linebattle mode. Yeah it would be something...new more or less. I dont care about yet another WW2 or some modern desert war crap. Perhaps a fictive ww3 story. Or good oll WW1. But everything else just looks the same.

Ive played all but CoD 3, not sure why, I think it was because I was really focused on BF at the time of its release. And I really like them, or at least the singelplayer, Ive never been a fan of the MP of CoD games, to much camping for my taste.

Then you probably would like Black Ops, I would say from what i've seen, its almost impossible to camp with the spawn system.

My views on the the Call of Duty franchise:

People that do not like the series seem to be really angry at people that do like the series.
