For this year as a whole my money's on MW3;

...but "Thus Far" I would have to say Dead Island. It felt like a poor mix-match of L4D, Dead Rising and Borderlands... and I pretty much hated Borderlands for being a mix-match of any 4-player co-op game and a tacky feeling RPG. I love RPG's, FPS's and Co-op is something I look for in a game when I've got mates over. Borderlands lacked Rule 2 of any RPG (Rule 1: RPG's need to include a form of Role-Playing.) which also carried to Dead Island, contributing to another reason I hated it.
Rule 2: A good, motivating story.

Duke Nukem Forever. No competition.
Man this is like the millionth DOF it wasint THAT bad, its issues sure but i had fun.

OP: Dawn of war Retribution, the most dissipointing RTS purchase i've ever made, i was so convinced itd be great because i love a good story, THE STORY IS AWFUL JUST AWFUL. Like my god i've never been so mad at a games plot before just GAHH

runner up though, Space marine, I've never seen so many cliches and so many "Fuck the lore!!" moments that were awful, just didn't feel a thing like warhammer.

Disclaimer here though, am one of the biggest warhammer fans there is, i started with the table top and still play on a weekly basis and keep up with the books as well, just the games....

Dead island & Homfront win
Dead island seemed grindy less than 30 minutes in "grr kick grr kick" is the entire sound track. Stab throw kick pick up sticks repeat seemed like the whole game.
I can't say how bad Homefront is, any better than Psycho-Toaster did so, um, yeah...

Dead Island is easily my first candidate. That game wasn't near worth the 60 dollars it cost me.

But no game for the past five years has truly been "great," except maybe Portal,
Nope. There have been quite a few games that could be classified by "Truly great" other than portal. You make it sound like Portal is the best game of this gen, which it isn't. It's just great.

Duke Nukem Forever hate makes me sad to be a gamer, because it was a legitimately entertaining and light-hearted FPS in a sea of mediocre combat sims and deserved to be treated better than it treated. Actually, I'd almost go so far as to say it's probably one of the best games of 2011, for me.
Wrong again. It's a bad game in nearly every aspect. Boring, bland, unfunny, shit. It doesn't deserve to be treated any better. I didn't give a shit about duke, didn't wait for it and wasn't hyped. I still bought it out of curiosity and absolutely hated it. Also, it makes me sad to be a gamer when I see gamers flame other gamers for hating DNF, because that's just fucking ridiculous.

So yeah, people claiming that DNF is the worst game of 2011 is completely normal, natural and justifiable. I also find it hilarious that you're insulting people for not thinking the same way you do by calling them fucking idiots. It's called opinions and everyone has one.
I like how you said I was "wrong" then went on to list "boring, unfunny, shit" as examples when all those things are completely subjective.

Anyway... I definitely got carried away. I was more mean that I should have been... ergh. I just hate how Duke Nukem Forever gets hate because it means anyone of the sizable crowd that actually enjoyed the damn thing gets picked on. I guess I was being pre-emptive in my assumption that the thing would get sniped to hell and back and decided to do the shooting first and wow what a convoluted metaphor.

...my point being that if someone considers the game "fun" and they're well versed in gaming (not, say, a hermit or a caveman), that you can probably take their word for it that they genuinely did have fun and that the game WASN'T a completely horrific mess. Pick the game apart, and it wasn't a completely horrific mess. Ignoring, for example, the humour, which is the most COMPLETELY subjective taste ANY of us have as human beings and I refuse to believe that game is objectively unfunny - the shooting was functional, the level progression was masterfully diverse (though that was probably an accident), and the inclusion of minigames and the "Ego-boosts" was... well I thought it was the most fun addition to first-person shooting in recent years. Replace health pickups with doing Duke Nukem stuff? ...well that's just inspired!

So yes. I was incredibly mean spirited in my initial post when I was in no position be so. But I hate it when people crap all over Duke Nukem Forever - and in the process, crap over all the people who liked the game, crap all over 3D Realms and Gearbox software who spilt sweat and blood over the game, and over the franchise as a whole and what it means for fun-flavoured funsicle shooting funtimes. So... yeah, accept my apology, and I hope you see why I did what I did. I was just combating vindictive meanness with more vindictive meanness, and surprise surprise... it all came out vindictive and mean. Two wrongs do NOT make a right.

Gah. Still saddened by DNF hate but hey, whatever. As long as people are talking about the game and not its fans. Because I still take it personally when people say it was terrible, and since I liked it, I feel sniped. "Aww," I say. "Awwww. Awwwwwww." ...it genuinely sort of hurts. A lot.

Anyway I'm gonna NOT say Terraria because that was a dumb decision and it was ironic of me to spout praise of DNF and then say poop of Terraria for being something it's not.

And I'm going to say The Conduit 2. Yes. ...that'll... that'll stick.
