ground.

i get earthquakes and volcanoes.

hell, i even get lava/magma on my side 'cause it's just molten earth.\

also i get valuable minerals.

you know what, i think supervillian would suit me better.

id want to say fire cuz it would be awesome but i think electricity would be better for heroic deeds!

I'd pick ice. Even if I didn't get to choose, I'd probably get it anyway (what, with being split between cold and removed (ice) with an occasional burst of wit and frendliness (snow)).

Plus, let's not forget how effective it is:
V. Electricity: you have pump a ton of volts through ice to melt it.
V. Water: freeze the water. Done.
V. Ground: if there is ANY moisture in the ground at all, I can freeze it and deflect attacks. Also useful for shattering rocks.
V. Fire: I admit, it is a tad bit difficult to block fire with ice, but you can't win everything.
V. Wind: About even. I guess wind could cut through the ice, though.

And, if there is ANY water vapor in your lungs, I can freeze it and cause you to drown in your own blood from the internal bleeding. Thats right.

Oh, yeah, and heroism. It's a lot easier to restrain someone by freezing them than anything else (except maybe burying them to neck height w/ground). Yeah, they get some tissue damage, but that's what they get for being evil.

As I'm being forced to be a hero, wind is the most practical choice.

I can save people from heights, put out fires, metamorphosis into the breeze for quick transport, build forcefields and if needed weaponise it by concentrating high force gales into small areas.

If I could be a villain, fire. Nothing would strike fear into people more than the sheer destruction you could harbor with flames. Although saying that, I could whip up some ferociously devastating storms and such with wind, and completely manipulate the Earth's climate.

Maybe I'll stick with wind for both.

Wind. Cause wind is pretty damn boss. Also because fire is boned against wind I'd say (if wind can include removed air in some way. It can whirl shit around so water may have some issues, but mostly because wind is awesome.

water, it's almost everywhere, including within the human body itself. It give me an excuse to pick people up and spin them around in the air :p

fire all the way. has a wide variety of practical applications and is just awesome. Also tell me it wouldn't be awesome to do a colonel mustang style finger snap.

Wind, create a vacuum and laugh as everyone fails to hit me. Permanent vacuum shield half an inch thick surrounding a wind buffeting shield around me with minor holes to maintain steady supply of oxygen and sound. Fire will die in the vacuum, water and ice will evaporate harmlessly, stones will buffet off the second layer, and lightning bolts can't cross the vacuum. The holes will move constantly which will provide sound through the barrier and minimize the chances of someone getting an attack through the pinhole. Throwing things or making a vacuum around their head wins fights.
What if an Earth user just decides to drop you into a giant hole to the center of the Earth?
Ground opens up, I remain hovering above it and laugh.
Sorry, no. Ground encapsulates you and your bubble and drags you screaming into the earth. Now what are you gonna do?
Counter with Tornado speed winds to blow a hole through or just rapidly expand the air molecules trapped in the ground causing rapid expansion and I fly out.

Either electricity or earth (ground)... Both focus more on hard hits, and are rather robust so I'm kinda sketchy about choosing between them, but which of the two do I lean more towards? Electricity, because it has an added bonus of sometimes causing things to catch fire, which makes it two elements I'm fixated on without necessarily cheating. :D

Well id have to go with Earth/ground

Ground Vs Electricity: The use of conductors and magnets will deter most all attacks, all could be created on the fly with the use of the earth ability Alchemy

Ground Vs Ice: Would be difficult im sure since Ice is a natural deconstructor. But the use of more expandable (and thermogenic) items in your build will deter the necessary cold required to freeze any water source. And if it does still get cold enough to freeze the more porous and flexible materials will help to prevent any immobilization.

Ground Vs Water: Water Proof Materials and Seals, Will prevent any real issues with "rust" attacks, Oxygen can be produced by breaking down nearby materials. Alcehemize the heavy metals in the water to use against the opponent.

Fire: Very Dense materials will be needed to prevent excessive heat buildup, The denser metals will prevent damage but would need materials to transfer the heat to prevent internal cooking. Best to simply manipulate the materials that they are burning or smother the fire first.

Wind: Heavy metals for stability and debris impact, Alcmeize Debris to use against opponent maybe some explosives if they are using a tornado to protect themselves. Projectiles would be difficult so surviving would be easy, removing them would be hard.

Alchemy kinda seems OP when you look at it. It has control of just about all of the elements. But it is considered of the Earth/Ground branch.

IMO there are only 2 elements. Mass and Energy.

Well seeing how I can't do ice and water I'll pick fire.

Seems like a bad ass thing to have.

Ice. Do you know the things I could do with ice? Apart from the obvious attacks of throwing icicles at you/trapping you in a glacier (which isn't as harmless as fiction would have you believe, it would freaking burn) I could freeze you to expand all the water in your body and make you explode. I could gather various debris around me and create pykrete, giving myself a nigh-on indestructible shield. I can create a lens to focus light and get a laser at my disposal. I can use the cold to slow and dull your reflexes, making you a pushover
As for specifically facing the other choices; I can easily use it to crack concrete and shatter steel. It will stop fire just as easily, its own mass low temperature preventing heat from affecting it too badly. Water will just freeze on contact and give me more ice. And don't think that you can zap me with electricity even through a wall of ice. I'm not sure if ice conducts electricity anyway, but even if it does, mine won't. Not because I say so, but because water is actually an insulator and only conducts if it has impurities. I will presumably be summoning my ice up out of nowhere, or the water in the air if I'm desperate, so there will be no impurities and so there will be no conduction
