yeah, just thought i'd say i totally saw that plot twist coming. however, very frikking good game and every point you made is valid... if it can still be considered modern enough to be used to defend modern gaming.
My problem is that most of my favourite games are previous generation, for the PSP (and thus my opinion is void) or from the very early years of this current generation.
EDIT: thinking on it, that Batman Arkam Asylum was very entertaining (least the demo i played was, and i've heard practically no bad feedback from the actual game) and that came out pretty recently right? yeah, i could use that. Its easy to get into, i'm sure any competent 15 year old would be able to play it with no problems settling into the difficulty curve, it didn't seem to repel non-gamers whilst provided pro-gamers with massive amounts of fun. The gameplay was fluent and amusing. It was very different from the "Brown FPS", so that solves that complaint... though it did suffer a little from being a bit dark/realistic but what do you expect, its batman!?
as for the story... my only knowledge of it is from Yahtzee, that its supposedly written by comic writers... so its not awful plotwise, but likely to be full of corny one-liners/come-backs. But most movies have terrible writing anyway, so quit complaining.

On a slightly related note, i am actually looking forward to this games release. lets hope that in the future, we both would love to defend gaming with this game as our example.

i had to do a mock debate in gov class about this question "do video games create bad behavior in children?" i was on the "no they don't, that's bullshit" side and i FUCKING RIPPED INTO THE OTHER GUY'S ARGUMENT SO BAD IT HURT!!!!
here's the main problem; parents. a stereotypical overprotective mother (who like most parents of this type will never, ever, admit that they've made at least one bad parenting choice down the line) gets all up arms when she see's her twelve year old son play halo...3. what does she do? she makes up a bogas story created by her worst fears of what could happen to her son's behavior. then, she tells this story to every other stereotypical overprotective mother in the neighborhood, and on the PTO staff at her son's middle school. then no one in the entire community can play halo and everyone is sad.
that's when i, wearing a mjolnr costume i bought online, jump through the window of the school where the stereotypical overprotective mothers are having their video game burnings and i shout "DID YOU KNOW THAT HALO 3 IS RATE M17? THAT MEANS ONLY SOMEONE 17 OR OLDER CAN BUY IT!!! GUESS WHO BOUGHT HALO 3 FOR THEIR 12 YEAR OLD SON? THAT'S RIGHT, YOU DID YOU STEREOTYPICAL OVERPROTECTIVE MOTHERS!!! LOOK AT THE RATINGS BEFORE YOU BUY THE GAME NUM-NUTS!!!"
moral of my argument, if you don't want your 7 year old son pissing people off on halo 3 over xbox live, or your twelve year old son robing a gun store with a knife in GTA4, don't buy those kind of games....retards

I have no reason to defend it. Sure games are fun but I just can never think of a reason to defend it.
Pixeljunk Eden and Fallout 3. Eden because it's a very fundamental gaming experience and also very nice to look at and the only successful art-music collaboration in a game which is integrated properly. Fallout 3 because of the sheer experience and the feeling of being part of a world.

Anyways, I would jump behind the Myst series, simply because it got more artistic, grand, and FREAKING EPIC as it went along.
I Completely agree, people are moving on and making "bigger and better" games, but the simple format that worked for Shadow of the Colossus and Ico as well for that matter... it was just perfect, an amazing game, beautiful artistic visuals. A Simple plotline which you can't help but be engrossed in. And if they were bored after going through these points i simply say.procyonlotor said:
