Basically what is the game out of all the games all over the market, the good the bad, the ugly, and the E.T. for the Atari 2600, which is your reason to defend it.

To Yahtzee fans we know that Silent Hill 2 is his reason to even defend the gaming industry, for me, I want to say Disgaea, the first time I played it I loved it, great gameplay, funny dialouge, and plenty of classes and attacks to use. Oh and the Prinny, I love the Prinnys.

so what game is your reason to defend gaming, and please one game

edit: fixed the title

Edit EDIT: To clarify, lets just say someone says gaming has become stall and stupid, what with all the Brown Shooters and multitude of Casual games

Shadow of the Colossus and Red Dead Redemption. Both games are involving, utterly beautiful to look at and immensely entertaining. Not to mention Shadow of the colossus is basically a masterpiece.

You could probably go with any game besides those... things we try to avoid at all times.
Personally though, I would go with Fallout 3 because it can go from humorous, to serious, and then to making a fellow human explode.

I'll just pat the person speaking against video games on the back and say "Enjoy your cynicism, friend. I'll just go and have fun with my video games while you continue your ranting"

No need to defend video games when you can enjoy them yourself.

I would point to the following games:

Sands of Time
Psychonauts
Red Dead Redemption
Zelda OoT.
And, (rather controversially), Halo 3 ODST.

And tell them to play them if they're the last games they play.

Alternatively, if someone were to call out games as not being art, I would express mail a package to their house containing several games considered art by the community, with a note telling them to GET OFF THEIR STUPID MOVIE LOVING DUFF AND SEE WHAT TRUE ART IS!

Alternatively Alternatively, If I was called to defend a game that was deemed controversial by news media, I would ask them if they even played the game, and then tell them to go play it and see if the controversial elements even FUCKING EXISTED.

Sorry about that.

When asked to defend something against people who don't like that thing you aren't going to win. It's a hobby. I enjoy it. The rest of society can shove it.

One game?

Space Invaders

Not only did it usher in a new era of film-making, cause Japan to re-issue coins (as they'd run out), but it remains a fixture of the human consciousness 32 years later.

The introduction of the arcade cabinet, which Space Invaders started, lead to the belief in the Space Race - which got the Shuttle up, brought the idea of game machines into public recognition - pushing forward the quiz machine, and thus the popularity of quiz shows on television.

The idea of the Space Invaders having a simple two-frame walk leapt to the dance floor and sparked the craze of music having associated dance moves.

Were it not for Space Invaders, we wouldn't have Geeks like Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Sir Clive Sinclair. And despite their "interesting" ways of dealing with things, those three helped spearhead the technological revoloution that gave us Home Entertainment Systems.

Without Gates we simply wouldn't have Compatability, without Jobs there wouldn't be the free market and without Sinclair, we simply wouldn't have the support for gaming machines, that was the basis of consoles. (Atari had nearly killed them off with the crash of the VCS over ET).

So yeah, 10x6 rows of 8x8 pixels moving back and forth to a repetitive beat formed the backbone of our society today.

The Defence Rests.

Okami, I know SOTC is often seen as the end all be all of art, Okami mixes beautiful art, fun gameplay, a great story, and envirorments to explore. Okami takes cultural influences and adds In the gameplay that was perfected by Clover. And its reasonable learning curve will give the Eberts of the world a better chance at immersion, now those who have picked up Halo, only to explode over and over again, will begin to get It. Okami, my favorite game of all time, the pinnacle of what a game should be.

Bioshock.

But really there are a lot of games. I'll just use that one.

It could have easily been made into a book.

The story was deep, intriguing and had twists that I doubt anyone saw coming.
It was full of interesting characters with amazing back-stories set in a rich environment.

It should be a book, or a movie for that matter

*attention to the jury*
me: Team Fortress 2, it presents an educated level of fun; it's story is weak, yes, but it gives you a reason to do what you're doing; it's character development is none, yet they grow on you almost instantly, and it's designed in such a way that team work IS a requirement, and it's rewarding. And last but not least, it's graphical style is made in such a way that it won't become age quickly and will live on longer than gunmetal gray-brown fps'

prosecutor: yet, it also involves racism and stereotypes, like the black, and I repeat black man who is always drunk and has physical disadvantages over the rest of the white cast, and that is just one example

me:
