After a late night posting on the Escapist, you go to bed, as usual.

You wake up freezing.

You can't tell if your eyes are open, or if it's pitch black. A harsh light blinks on above you, and you see frosted glass right in front of your eyes. You find yourself inside what looks to be a white padded coffin. You try to say something, but you find that your mouth is enclosed by a re-breather mask. You try to move an arm to tear it off, but your muscles feel sluggish. You tilt your head forward and feel yourself falling toward the frosted glass. The weight of your body is enough to push it open...
You fall face first onto the deck. Dull pain registers in your body, but your body's only concern is that you are still freezing. With labored effort, you turn yourself around so that you're lying flat on your back. You get your first glimpse of the coffin that held you. It's cylindrical and sterile and gunmetal gray. You see a red light flashing urgently within your now empty capsule. You're slowly getting your sense of hearing back when you start to notice the klaxons blaring in time with the red light. You also hear footsteps coming, the sound of heavy boots echoing on the surface of the ice cold deck you're lying on...

You crawl backwards, using your legs and elbows, away from your capsule...only to bump into another one. You look up and see the same type of cylinder as your ice-cold coffin. You look left and right, see rows upon rows of them in either direction. Slowly and painfully, you manage to hide behind the capsule you bumped into, just as the deafening sound of boots clattered to a stop.

"He's gone." The voice was deep, an edge of violence in its tone.

"Or she's gone," remarked a voice that seemed to belong to someone you wouldn't want to touch, much less trust. "Could be a she...I hope she's a she. We could do with a lot more she's."

"Whoever they are, they can't have gotten far." You hear one set of boots walking away, forceful and hurried by the sound of its stride. You hear the other set of boots still skulking nearby...

"I wonder what she looks like..." the slimy voice asked itself. "I wonder what she smells like?!"

Against all common sense, you take a quick peek from around the capsule you're hiding behind. You see a humanoid form hunched over your empty coffin, sniffing its confines and licking the frosted glass with glee. A reflection from the glass must have betrayed your presence, because the creature quickly turns around and growls, brandishing a sharp object in its hand.
Welcome to the future.

You are a prisoner aboard a deep space vessel. You had been placed in deep cryogenic hibernation in order to serve consecutive life sentences. It has been hundreds of years since then, and malfunctions in the prison ship's life support systems have awakened you from your enforced slumber. However, you are not alone. Other prisoners are also on board, some of them having woken up before you.

Post how you would survive this situation, using anything you see or know at your disposal. This includes knowledge of martial arts, or simply out and out violence. However, it can only be what you have learned or know how to do, or have done in real life.

I am a demon butler. I have all the skills necessary to escape. I'll waltz my way out. Any partners?

It's a free write. Feel free to continue as you wish. I am unsure about demon butlers, unless that is what you were called when you were incarcerated.

Let me clarify further.

Each of you have just woken up from enforced cryogenic suspension. There are other prisoners on board the ship you are on, but you do not know if you can trust them. There might be a computer terminal somewhere on the ship that could tell you more about your situation...

...if you are able to survive your first encounter.

I suppose I should write up an example using my character.

"'Messages(0)'. It's slow tonight..." Paksenarrion pathetically refreshed her browser for the 7th time in an hour. She blearily eyed the time on the bottom right corner of her screen. "It's past midnight. Hmm...sleep, or read porn?" She sniffed her sheets hesitantly, and recoiled. "I'm definitely doing laundry tomorrow."

Setting her laptop aside, she gathered her comforter around her and climbed out of bed. Out of habit, she pressed her ear against her bedroom door before opening it just wide enough to slip herself through. She tiptoed down the hallway to the kitchen, pausing behind the counter in a crouch.

A small part of her knew she was being silly; she was home alone for the holidays and there was nobody to hide from. A larger part of her was paranoid; she was home alone for the holidays and she did not trust the laws of probability to keep her safe.

She eased a bottle of wine out of the counter's cabinet, gripping the neck in an overhand fashion. She peeked her head over the counter, makeshift weapon at the ready. Just as quickly, she cleared her blind spots and double checked the doors. She was always surprised to feel relief at something everyone seemed to take for granted.

Placing the wine bottle back in the cabinet, she filled a kettle halfway with water and placed it on the stove to boil. Feeling chilly, she looked down at the comforter pooled around her feet and picked it up, placing it back around her shoulders. She climbed up on a stool and sat, watching the kettle, her feet dangling inches off the cold kitchen floor. She spun herself lazily from side to side, humming whatever came to mind.

Her eyes slid closed without her knowing, and her body began to fall inexorably forward...

The next thing she felt was the freezing cold touch of a metal deck. Instinctively, she curled up into a ball, her hands grasping futilely for a comforter that was no longer there. She heard and felt the reverberations of heavy footsteps coming closer. Fear drove her to open her eyes and reorient herself.

She saw an endless hallway of cylindrical coffins on either side. Spotting the nearest shadow, she shakily clambered over to it, her teeth chattering and her hands trying to rub warmth into her arms. The footsteps were coming closer, and she forced herself to stay still, and breathe very slowly. She clenched her teeth to stop the chattering, and she crouched down to try and conserve as much heat as she could around her core.

She heard the voices; the dangerous one and the disgusting one. The former moved away, while the latter...

...she made a foolish decision and peeked from her hiding place. The creature charged at her, a sharp-looking object in its hand. It was fight or flight time, and she was trapped. She had no other choice but to charge the creature straight on. Using her arm as a shield, she forced his weapon hand up above her head with a forearm block up, feeling a nasty sting across her arm in the process.

She used the pain and added adrenaline to plant her foot between its legs, hook her free arm below and behind its groin, and hoist him up and over her head to crash onto the deck. Turning quickly, she stomped on its chest and elbow, both to puncture its lungs and dislocate its weapon arm. She stomped on its wrist repeatedly until it lost its hold on the weapon, then kept kicking its side until her senses caught up with her again.

She looked down at her arm and finally saw the bloody gash she acquired when she blocked his weapon...the weapon! She picked up the object and examined it:

It was a spike, to be sure, but it was engraved with glowing blue lines that reminded her of old circuit boards.

"You killed him." A large hand clamped painfully around her injured arm, and hoisted her bodily off the ground. She both heard and felt her shoulder dislocate, and a scream forced itself out from between her lips, warm tears freezing halfway down her cheeks. Dangerous Voice was back. She started blacking out from the pain and the cold just as she felt her body being turned around to face her tormentor. The last thing she saw was the silhouette of a face masked by shadow from the blinding glare of an overhead light...

It was a late at night 11 pm if you wish for me to be specific I was just surfin the net bored and feeling increasingly tired. So I drop backwards onto my bed my cat purring softly by my head as I slowly fell asleep yet some active part of my mind always aware of the world and every little detail.Working the gears in the back of my mind listening to the air currents in the house the cat purring the house creaking analysing them to ensure there was nothing to worry about and nothing left on besides my computer and my i pod dock blowing the sound of some song from an anime I dimly recall but don't really care enough to give it another thought or even get up to turn it off.
Yet something happened which literally dropkicked me back into awareness like abruptly waking up from a particularly vivid dream. I was trapped literally in a enclosed freezing cold spot I was literally freezing my cloths had changed I felt a tight fitted tunic on my body although it was barely noticeable due to the cold, so damn cold I felt a strong desire to move its kind of a personality quirking of mine, if I feel uncomfortable I cannot stop moving no matter what even if it only increases the dsicomfort and my instincts told me to move because I clearly was not back home in my nice warm room with my precious cat due to a lack of music the quiet hum of my computer or the purring of my furry feline.I slowly started to shift my weight around slowly building up the momentum to move and hopefully become free of this freezing prison I found myself in. I abruptly fell straight towards a metal deck face first it was all I could to shift myself while in midair to land on my side which didn't hurt as much since I still ended up on my back but the full weight of my fall was broken up to the point where it wasn't at all painful just discomforting. I laid there my eyes wide open on the floor sitting up in this startlingly bleak environment I was in taking notice of what I had fallen out of, that padded capsule. Finally I took notice of a few things that put my mind on overdrive especially those harsh voices and the sound of boots pounding on solid metal as if a group was running this way and judging by the noise they were making I don't think I want to stil be lying here when they come immeadiatly I felt fear and a strong desire to get out or atleast hide and figure out what the hello kitty was going on. I immeadiately began to crawl behind the capsule laboured at first due to the cold but I managed to get behind the capsule before whoever it is got there courtesy of the fact that where I am from cold weather is quite common especially of the -40 weather variety. So cold doesn't exactly slow me down as it would a normal person. Yet back to current events namely the two harsh individuals who have just managed to take notice of the empty capsule and the lack of a body.
"He's gone." The voice was deep, an edge of violence in its tone. Somehow I don't think I want to fight fair against this guy he sounds like the type of guy nobody wants to mess with.

"Or she's gone," remarked a voice that seemed downright lecherous I hate guys like him, gives the rest of us guys a bad image. "Could be a she...I hope she's a she. We could do with a lot more she's." With that I felt a strong surge of disgust and hatred for voice number two. Emotion is good I can use it to my advantage.

"Whoever they are, they can't have gotten far." I hear one set of boots walking away, forceful and hurried by the sound of its stride. I could hear the other set of boots still skulking nearby...

"I wonder what she looks like..." the slimy voice asked itself. "I wonder what she smells like?!" Thats it I'm tearing this guy limb from limb first chance I get I begin to get up slowly I could feel some much emotion churning within me fear of getting caught or what these two might do to me if I am refound and captured, the surge of rage flowing through me, I try to wait for the right moment when guy 1 sounded the farthest away while guy number two I could sense him coming closer and closer. I immediately jump out of cover tackling the guy in front of me to the floor his weapon clattering a few metres away rather than lay on him I got into a crounch as if I was about to stand up keeping him onto the floor I jumpoff him then stamped right back into to keep him from getting any air back then stomped him to the ground and grabbed his weapon while rolling towards toward another capsule. Not that it matters because a second later something smashed into my head knocking me out cold thhe second I turned towards the fallen guard.

Amazing Roleplay
Wow. Where do you want to take this? Any ideas? I figured we wake up, under guard, and find out there are several criminal factions running the ship. Each one is trying to figure out where the ship is in relation to Earth and its Colonies, and/or how long they've been drifting in space.

Life Support seems to have degraded in extended areas of the ship, specifically the cargo holds, where the cryogenic pods are kept. So far, no one knows how to access the bridge, much less where it's located, but contemporary common sense (contemporary in relation to the technological era you are just now starting to remember) states that finding a computer terminal should give you access to the ship's AI...if it's still functioning as it should.

Ya I was kind of thinkng something similar although I couple questions I'd like to address first off are we just gonna write off the previous life of the characters you know the ones where lived normal everyday lives, as a coma dream or do we want a sort of matrix feel where the life experienced up to this point was a computer simulation to keep our minds busy during our imprisonment, or something equally interesting if not different? As for the other question the guards I assume they are organic life forms but are they humans, or aliens who specialize in keeping imprisoned criminals contained?

That's the fun part. The factions are split up based on their beliefs:

Some factions believe that their minds were thrown forward in time.

Others believe their previous lives were simply a dream they had during cryostasis.

Other factions believe that the lives they lived were a direct manipulation by the AI.

There are more likely other interesting beliefs that other factions hold, but in the end, nobody knows...until we can find the AI.

The guards have been organic...so far. We eventually find out that the ship is divided between species, but the guards assigned to each species are different. This is to ensure that the guards do not feel any sort of attachment to their prisoners.

ALright then I think I got it. So with that in mind on with the show.
Ughhhhhhhhhhhhh O geez what the heck happened to me I feel like I got hit by a freaking train. I thought to myself as I wake up feeling like the avatar of crap. Lets see on solid cold floor not a good sign since I clearly am not back home bars coursing with electricity clearly I am no place good. O cool a miror is lodged on the wall behind me so I crawl over to it and drag myself to my feet taking a good long look at myself in the mirror hmm looks like I look like myself short brown hair deep brown eyes and I look way thinner than i d back home hmmm home,I wonder what the heck happened, oh well atleast this version of me or whatever I don't need glasses that should come in handy. I begin looking around scrutinizing the world around me as my imagination starts firing up possible reasons for my current circumstances I notice that while the bars in front of me are electrical bars the walls of to my sides are transparent energy fields where as the only actual solid wall is the one behind me as I turn towards the bars. I also notice that while I am alone in my cell there are plenty of other cells just like it. Some empty some with people altrhough the genders and ages seem to be mixed. I also noticed several guards seems to be 2 per aisle all wearing masks and the same equipment as the guy I ambushed before they seem to be walking up and down tghe asles, I also notice the weapons they carry some shaped like batons now that I have a better view of them some in the shape of a rifle or something. I also noticed that while the cell to my left is empty I see the one on my right contains an unconscious girl.

Paksenarrion wakes up with a splitting headache, coupled by the freezing cold touch of metal on her skin. Immediately, she curls up into a ball, shivering uncontrollably. The sound of her teeth chattering madly is gradually replaced by the awareness of heavy footsteps vibrating through the metal deck she is laying on. She opens her eyes, trying to see where she is without moving. She finds herself in a cell; transparent walls on either side of her, electrified bars in front of her. Through those bars, guards in uniforms steadily patrolling the aisles.

She sees a young man in the cell to her left. Still shivering, she looks through the transparent wall to her right. Empty.

She looks across the electrified bars in front of her...another prisoner, also naked, but apparently comfortable. She was sitting in front of a vent along the center of the back wall of her cell.

Curiosity and the need for warmth drove her to find the same vent in her cell. Soon, she felt the heat radiating from the vent. She turned back to look at the young man to her left and pointed to the vent in his cell. "It's warm," she croaked, her voice box still not used to speaking. She hoped that he could hear her, but she wasn't sure. She dared not raise her voice too loudly, for fear of attracting the guards' attention.

I was looking around attempting to formulate a plan of escape when I heard a bare wisp of a voice turning towards the woman I saw earlier in the cell beside me. Hmm good advioce I suppose, I started getting up and heading for the vent inside the cell as close as I dared to go without touching the energy field that divides her from me. "Thanks." I managed to mutter under my breath more to not strain it.

Crouched in front of the vent, her back and buttocks now comfortably warmed via convection, Paksenarrion scanned her environment more critically. Aside from the vent, there seemed to be a deeper recess in the wall behind her. Out of morbid curiosity, she placed her hand inside...

...and was rewarded by a sharp stabbing sensation as a micrometer-thin needle pierced her skin then withdrew in an instant, taking a drop of blood from her. Even as she puller her hand way out of reflex, the recess in the wall lit up and a strangely mottled cylinder materialized within the space her hand previously occupied.

A far memory within her clicked, and she grabbed the cylinder gingerly with her pricked hand. She sniffed at it out of habit, then took a bite...

...as she suspected, it was food. It reminded her of an unsightly power bar with a liquid filling, except this was bland and tasteless. It wasn't fine dining, but she knew that it contained enough vitamins, minerals, proteins, and carbohydrates to keep one alive, based on the blood analysis the AI took prior to the meal.

She looked across her bars and saw other prisoners feeding themselves, as well. She looked back to the young man to her left and raised her concentrated gruel in a mock toast. "Every meal's a feast," she grinned, despite herself, her voice still rough from disuse.

Doug now that he was nice and warm via the vent and decided to look around in more detail and noticed the girl do the same only just now noticing the deep recess in his own cell. Upon looking back at the girl he just caught site of her getting pricked by the needle. Darn it why does it have to be needles I friggin hate needles. Decided to watch her a little longer descovering the food then looking aound seeing the other prisoners feeding themselves like-wise, I soon came to the realization that it just can't be helped, looking back at he girl he heard her speak again. Well atleast someone around here has a sense of humor, this could be interesting. Interrupting this train of thought was my stomach growling at mew hungrily. Alright, then sticking my hand in the recess I was pricked in which case my hand shot out at an almost inhuman speed did i mention I hate needles and pain a lot. Upon checking I noticed a cylinder of my own, inside which was some kind o food upon eating it I noticing it was bland and tasteless so I just sighed and ate it I could really go for a pizza or something but I guess I'll just have to make due, on the pluside atleast the issue of food and decent company is outta of the way time for the main issue trying to change my current circumstances to better effect what now seems to be my reality, aka operation get the heck outta here. Upon looking around my atteention eventually was returned to my fellow prisoner who was sitting there looking around up to the point where our eyes met.

Noticing that her fellow inmate had noticed her notice, she simply sat silently for a few minutes, watching him, until she finished her bland nutrient bar. "I'm Paksenarrion...I think," she ventured by way of introduction. "Where are we?" Her voice still sounded raw, but her voice felt just a tiny bit less like sandpaper every time she spoke.

All the things she'd experienced so far were rather pointed clues that this was some sort of prison, but she did not know why she was in it. Although, if her memory of the food dispenser was any indication, she would eventually remember why...and hopefully, the where.

"My name is Doug or atleast thats what I was called back home whatever that was. I answered her. "As far as the where we are is concerned your guess is as good as mine." I said,

Suddenly my head started to hurt and I felt a blurr of images in my mind I couldn't make sense of until it stopped on an image of me clearly being detained under heavy guard in a small shuttle like vessel looking down on the earth in a viewport, and just as suddenly it faded away and the pain relented for a bit.

"Ahhhhhhhhhh darn headaches! I think we might be on a space going prison facility of some sort, and judging by the decore I'd say we are prisoners here." I finally replied grimacing at the pain in my head.

Before Paks could ask another question, a tremor runs through the entire prison block they're on. Lights go off...as do the force fields and electrified bars. The sound of marching feet from the armored guards stop, and laser sights pierce the darkness from their helmets.

With the power down, this also meant the warming vents were no longer working.

Upon the noticing we are have been dumped into darkness a dozen thoughts.
"What the heck is going on?' deciding to voice my first thought outloud.I also chose at that moment do get as low onto the floor as possible to avoid any long range weapon discharges that may go off at any moment.

The armored guards don't seem terribly affected by the darkness, especially when gravity is just as quickly turned off. You see prisoners start to float upward, except for the ones who were quick enough to cling to the warming vents.
