My Idea for the next Mass Effect Game.

This is from my Description section of my Game Design Doc, I made on this very subject :D

Mass Effect Online, is a Massive Multi Instanced Online Experience (not an MMO). Where Players form together in Squads of friends to form Ships and join Alliances to explore the stars in search of Profit, Peace and Conflict. Players can form a Ship of either 10 (Crew and Support Squads Only), 15 (Crew, Support and Recovery Squads Only) or 20 Players (All Squads). Squads contain 5 Players each, each squad has its own tasks it?s in charge of on the ship each Squad can contain any configuration of Player Classes( Adept, Soldier, Engineer, Sentinel, Infiltrator and Vanguard), however some Classes might be more better suited for some Squads they can all be used effectively in all Squads, the Squads are;
? Crew, this Squad does tasks ranging from Pilot and run Ship Systems, ranging from Ship wide communication to Squads in the Ship and On the Field communication, deployment of Ships weapons to assist in assaults on heavily fortified enemy locations or space assaults, this Squads main task is operating the Ship at all times.
? Support, this Squad does tasks ranging from protecting the inside of the ship to doing emergency repairs to Ship Systems in Combat situations. They are also sent as a relief Squad to support deployed Squads on Missions.
? Assault, this Squad is the main bulk of firing power and biotic powers on the ship. They are sent in to assist the Recovery Squad if they encounter heavy opposition on a Mission, they can also choose to stay inside the ship and assist the Support Squad.
? Recovery, this Squad is mainly used to gather objectives and to scout Mission locations. They can assault enemy positions if they believe there is no other way to get to the objective. They may also call on other Squads, Assault and if need be Support Squads to assist them in Missions.
Players will have a large choice of races to pick from and not limited to: Human, Asari, Krogan, Turian, Quarian, Salarian and Drell. And Classes ranging from but not limited to Adept, Soldier, Engineer, Sentinel, Infiltrator and Vanguard.

Enjoy my Description. I have 90 more pages of game systems, controlls and game design if people want more. Alof of its in list/bullet point form so dont judge it.

you sir are brilliant I would gladly want to read more

I would make a mass effect rts spanning most of the history of the major races The last campaign would be against the reapers you would use all the tactics you have learned using the other races through out their history to beat the reapers in a giant battle -final battle you don't control one race you control them all

there would be an online mode

Sorry.

But anyway, it's EA and a franchise that sells. They'll have yearly iterations pretty soon. Might as well go for something palatable.

Like a game focused on Anderson. <.<

but anyway, I was asked what I'd do with the resources and I answered, though on further though, I'd probably push to use a better studio then Bioware, if I'm a have my name on a game I'd rather it not be so boring its unplayable, which is the issue i tend to have with Bioware's games

Hmm...if I were to make a new Mass effect game, I'd do several different things...

First, I'd want the main character to be someone who isn't strictly military. The Alliance (for all their faults and benefits) was a huge part of the original trilogy, so I'd like them to be more in the background for the new game. Perhaps I'd make a mercenary character, and give him some other cool last name (anybody, feel free to pick one...or better yet, make a new forum topic!) Maybe I could give this character the option of being former military, colonial, or maybe even criminal. This would reflect the previous "War Hero, Sole Survivor, and Ruthless" histories from first game.

As for the setting, that's more difficult. I can't see it taking place after Mass Effect 3 because the endings were so divergent...and any prequels would be almost worthless seeing as we know the ultimate result (the galaxy wiped out by Reapers). So, I'd almost completely knock out any mention of the Reapers, and instead make this game take place just a little bit before the first Mass Effect game. Or better yet, have this game take place parallel to the first two games, sort of seeing this original trilogy through the eyes of another main character. This way, we may still see familiar faces while focusing on new characters and different goals.

Finally, I'd do what they did in Dragon Age: Origins and let you select from several different races as an origin story...so perhaps you become a Krogan like Wrex, or maybe a Quarian on Pilgrimage, a human mercenary, a turian smuggler, or even an asari commando. It'd be difficult to pull off, but rewarding.

As for the story...I don't know...maybe you're hunting someone who stole something valuable from you, or just trying to get by in a corrupt galaxy. The great thing about a story is the flexibility...and having the funds to hire expert writers...not the ones who did the ME3 ending (don't hate me, please, I know the joke is tired but it was too much to resist).

I'd make an episodic citadel police procedural. Kind of like LA Noire but on a spacestation I guess.

I'd play the crap out of that game.

I'd make a three-part game:
1. You play as Wrex during his years as a merc;
2. This part is for Garrus during his C-sec days, when he stoped an assasination atempt;
3. Here you play as Thane and complete his jobs.

The first part is crazy, run'n'gun section with a bit of covers and biotic abillities of Krogan Battlemaster.
The second one is more tactical, where you uncover plans of an assassin and lead a few well trained operatives.
The last one is stealthy, with situations when you have an opportunity for a single shot.

Something like that.

I hire Brian Blessed to replace the good-but-not-Jennifer-Hale male Shep voice. While I'm sure this would piss off everyone who wants a coherant sci-fi epic this would be awesome.

I have Tali do a striptease for no reason. This is because a modern audience cannot tell if someone is female or not unless they see tits.

I have Reapers appear as common enemies and introduce a new race who built the Reapers to serve as the main antagonists.

Finally, over the ending credits, I will display the message "I bet this doesn't cause as much rage as Mass Effect 3".

Non-troll wise I'd probably just ignore the third game and make one set between 2 and 3 focussing more on the side characters. I'd especially like to see Ashley (or Kaiden I guess but I didn't pick him because he has a stupid name) fleshed out a little, I play on a PS3 and it was ages til I played the first Mass Effect so when I got the third game I was wondering why the hell they brought back that ***** who whined at you over the course of one cutscene then vanished.
