A friend of mine hasn't seen:

- All Indiana Jones films.
- All Star Wars films.
- All Back to the Future films.
- All Jurassic Park films.
- Any Tarantino film except, I think, Inglourious Bastards.

And those are just the ones I know off. And he's about the same age as me, in his early 20's. Just...how the hell can grow up in the 90's without seeing those! They're everywhere!! He even calls himself a film enthusiast.

As for myself, I haven't seen surprisingly few films frequently mentioned in this thread. The ones that stick out are Old Boy and A Clockwork Orange, both of them I really want to see. I'm not very surprised about Old Boy mind you, as it's, at least over here, rather obscure. A Clockwork Orange is a different matter of course.

Edit:

Hold on, I just thought of something; I've seen surprisingly few Disney movies. I haven't even seen The Lion King completely, just parts. I've started to catch up a while ago with Hercules, but it sorta faded. I don't know why, I was about halfway through Hercules and I really liked it.

Ohhh you are in the case of Fight Club at least. Sadly I think that you already know the whole spiel about that movie, I am so glad I didn't. I started watching that movie thinking it was a boring boxing flick. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh how wrong I was... Best. mindfuck. EVER!

What the fuck is "Old Boy"?
From what I've heard it's an absolutely stellar, brutal and a quite different kind of martial arts movie.

I have not seen Ironman, The Godfather, any Star Wars films, Fight Club, Pulp Fiction and many more so-called classics that I'm too lazy to list

I always get gasps when I say I haven't seen Wizard of Oz or Star Wars (to my defense, I've tried to watch the first Star Wars one a few times - I always end up falling asleep).

Just can't be bothered.

I've also never seen Pulp Fiction or Kill Bill. I'm still amazed by the huge fanbase they have.

I've never seen Pulp Fiction either. Or Titanic, or Wizard of Oz, Clockwork Orange (though I've been thinking about watching it sooner or later), Godfather(s)... Eh, the list goes on and on and you could add lots of 'classical' (or-not-so) TV shows to the list, too. I watch only what I wanna watch.

Oh, I hadn't seen any of the LotR movies until recently my boyfriend forced me to watch all of them. In one night. x_x

I have never seen Fight Club and have no real desire to. Pulp Fiction, yes I've seen that, but I don't find it interesting at all. It was "great" at one point, back when I was a teenager and giggled at things I didn't understand, but now that I've gotten older I find I don't like a lot of Tarantino's works. That's just how it goes, though.
Instead of saying "I have no desire watching it" you could state your reason.

To Topic: I only watched Pulp Fiction twice, i really didn't see what the fuzz was about it. The dialogs were funny, but overall i didn't find the characters or the plot that interesting.

I totally gasp when people tell me they haven't seen The Dark Knight.

I have a friend who has never seen the Wizard of Oz, SERIOUSLY IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE
That movie is old as fuck. Why would you want to watch it?
Old movies do not mean bad movies. Sure, the special effects may be hokey and out of date, but a good story is timeless.

Glue your friend to the sofa and make them watch it. Then apologise about the glue.

The amount of people I've had to introduce to the concentrated awesome that is The Princess Bride sickens me. It's almost....

eh. I won't.
I actually just watched that for the first time a few days ago, since I was looking for a decent fantasy movie to watch. I didn't like it all that much, but to be fair it seems like it was made for a younger audience.

On topic: I love Pulp Fiction and almost got in trouble the other day because I started screaming "English ************! Do you speak it?" to a new friend of mine. When he said "what" as a response needless to say I responded back "Say what again!". Turns out he missed the entire joke and just thought I was being an asshole.

My friend hasn't seen any of the StarWars movies but has seen a fair amount of HarryPotter movies.

My other friend hasn't seen any of the James Bond movies.

I don't mind but it's their loss :p

Fight Club and Pulp Fiction are both simplistic, braindead action films. I don?t see why anyone would want to include these on a list of classic must-see movies.
You MUST be trolling.

Not everything has to be a 'The Seventh Seal' or 'Citizen Kane' to be a cult movie you know. (although it wouldn't hurt to go and see them...)
Now, that is actually my opinion. I never really liked Fight Club for example. And I don't see why anyone would. Too the best of my knowledge, the movie has gotten a pretty mediocre critical reception. (no offense)
None taken, everyone has the right to have an opinion.

Though I can't help but give a bit of commentary:
- Why would anyone like Fight Club? First, it's simply a good movie from a technical standpoint: pacing, angles, atmosphere - hey, it's directed by David Fincher, what would you expect? Second, the way it shamelessly promotes mainstream nihilism with a big, fat layer of sarcasm is just so... refreshing. Third, the acting - I mean, like it or not, you cannot deny that Brad Pitt and Edward Norton deliver some great performances.

- Bad critical reception? Not really. Check imdb, the metascore of 'professional' critics seems somewhat on the low side (66%), but the masses give it a big 88%. Remember: Metropolis, Full Metal Jacket and 2001: A space odyssey weren't exactly hailed by the critics either (at least not on their release).

- The fact that the movie actually caused real Fight Clubs to pop up here and there, somewhat proves it's impact I believe.

But yeah, I digress: I liked it, you didn't, fair enough - but hey, at least you heard of it AND saw it, right? That's what counts.

I made a reference to a Tyler Durden quote, but he didn't seem to get it.
Who?

He had never seen Fight Club.

Neither of I, actually. Nor do I really care to.

I tried bringing up Old Boy, but he hadn't even heard of that movie.
Never heard of that, either.

But when I brought up Pulp Fiction, he hadn't even the slightest idea what the movie was about
Can't say I've seen that, either.

Oh, and not surprisingly, he had also never seen A Clockwork Orange or The Godfather
*whistles innocently*

I'm not trying to be a dick or anything, these are my honest, real responses. You said something along the lines of your friend being out of touch with modern culture, but were any of these movies made after 1990? Older generations are bound to have seen these movies, and since most of them have either attained cult classic or simply just classic status, a lot of younger movie-goers have as well.

But not everyone has a desire to track down every so-called 'classic' movie made in the last forty years, especially if it came out before they were even conceived. I'm not saying that's a good thing, but it's just the typical mindset of people. They know about recent classics because they were there to see them when they premiered, when they were at the height of their popularity. That leaves way more of an impact then having someone tell you about a movie you've never even heard of.

Obviously I'm not much of a movie-goer myself. I see the uber-big releases and will occasionally pop in a movie from my rather small DVD collection, though I've at least heard of most of the movies that were listed. Just please, please, please for the love of God do NOT expect me to know every single actor who has ever starred in a movie. I know some movie buffs who, when I ask what a movie is about, start listing off all of the actors in the movie. No, I asked what it was about, even if I was read-up on actors how would that tell me what it's about? I know the super-obvious mega celebrities, but if it's an actor that's only appeared in one or two sleeper hits, then don't act shocked when I don't know who they are.

You ain't seen Bad Boys 2?

But my serious answer is the people who would love The Crow but haven't seen it, that's very much a "Wait, what? YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE CROW?!?! You better go see it goddamn it" moment.

I try to get cultured with movies, but I still miss a few. The only one you didn't mention that I haven't seen was Clockwork Orange.

But the only movie you did mention that a large part of my friends has seen is Pulp Fiction. Not many people in my age group have seen The Godfather, and Fight Club came out as a lesser known movie right when we weren't allowed to watch those kinds of movies yet.

My girlfriend hasn't seen enough good movies, but she's open to them and I like introducing her to things I like.

I also still have a lot that I need to watch. Citizen Kane for the historical aspect of the film, Clockwork Orange, The Crow, 2001: A Space Odyssey (I own it, just haven't watched it), and a whole horde of others.

What I find agonizing is when people haven't even heard of The Godfather... Come on. It's been called "the best film of all time" so many times (even though Goodfellas was an inarguably better mobster flick).
