"Well there is no doubt that information has been withheld from us, but there is one thing bugging me. When we asked her about her identity, she was a bit defensive about it. I think that whatever happens tomorrow is going to make a lot less sense than what happens today." Jason replied, still facing the two and walking backwards at the same time.

Jason's hand moved to his scar and felt the heat coming off of it. Indeed. Why us? Why this. Why that. I guess we will just have to wait until tomorrow and see what happens.

"We arrive!" Sonny announced, stopping in the doorway of the coffee-shop. He glanced over his shoulder, and a quick head-count revealed that there were six members of the group in total; then he pressed onwards, nodding his salutations to the woman behind the counter.

Selecting a table near the back of the shop large enough to house all six teenagers, Sonny motioned for the others to park themselves, then got comfortable once they were all seated.

Sonny looked around the table at the assembled faces. He'd developed a vague idea of what most of the others were like already; Damien was almost unrealistically cool, and most of the time unusual characters like Sonny wouldn't have a hope of even getting to know cool people like that. Maybe Damien was so cool that even hanging around with weird, uncool people like him wouldn't do anything to hinder his coolness. God, he was just so Goddamn cool.

Jason was charming, and Angelo was shaping up to be nice enough too; he'd have to make a note of getting to know these two a bit better. He could conclusively say that neither of them were likely to hassle him for no reason, though, and if he'd judged that right he was sure he'd like them both just fine.

Alex... Alex was nice. Alex was really, really nice. He'd been the first one to come to Sonny's aid, he'd attempted to resolve the conflict with words rather than violence - which, Sonny realized looking back, wasn't exactly "dweebish", but was actually a fairly wise means of avoiding getting beaten up, depending on how you handled it - and he'd barely batted an eyelid when Sonny jumped into his arms earlier. Sonny wondered what he'd think if he made a habit of doing that...

And, at last, Carolina. She was the one Sonny had had the least interaction with throughout the day, and while all the guys were nice, they did all come across as very much being the "Guy" variety of guy, and Sonny would probably have an easier time talking about stuff with her than anyone else. She was very quiet, though - even more so than Sonny, in fact - and Sonny had to ponder how easy she'd be to befriend. Would she even be interested in befriending Sonny? She seemed slightly unusual - not by Sonny's standards, of course - but it didn't seem as though she was really interested in other people all that much... and what was it that she'd said earlier, in school? Something which struck Sonny as odd... was it something to do with reading minds, or something like that?

Oh, God. Sonny went pale. Could she... could she really hear thoughts? Could she hear his thoughts? Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit. Sonny checked to see if she was looking at him, then wavered and glanced away immediately without verifying anything. Alright, just think about normal things. Nooooormal things. Normal things normal things normal things normal things Alex's chest DAMMIT-

Panicking, Sonny sprang out of his seat as though stung by a wasp and browsed his imagination for an excuse as to why he should leave right at this very second. "Alright, I'm, uh, gonna go get drinks!" he declared, pointedly not looking at any of his companions, and he spun on his heel and headed towards the counter. No, wait, dammit-

Sonny turned back and addressed the group, continuing not to look in anyone's direction. "Alright, what does everybody want?"

Lina raised an eyebrow at Sonny's behavior... until she - unintentionally - began picking up on exactly why he was panicking.

Oh. Oh.

"I'll just have a hot chocolate for now." She said quickly. Lina did have some money on her, she could get something for herself later.

For some reason, I always enjoy reading your posts, Sam. Even if they occasionally creep me out by how damn detailed they are (Strain). However, two posts ago- ouch. Just... Ouch. Also, holy crap, it's difficult avoiding gender specific pronouns. I am going to end up hating your character for this one reason, I swear... :)
Damien looked at the menu from where he was sitting- not like he didn't memorize it back in California. Damien then looked at a clock and shrugged. Too late for a cup of coffee, too early for him to have a hot chocolate. Maybe he would have a frappuccino. "Ah, one cream-based chocolate chip frappuccino, please. Thanks!" Damien rummaged around in his pockets until he found his wallet. As far as he was concerned, that little standoff was nothing compared to gangs back home, and he would be damned if he accepted a single penny in gratitude.

As he was thinking this, Damien's mind began to wander, and he began to wonder why Sonny got up so fast. "Didn't even look like Sonny 'ad a plan until 'e got out of the seat." Damien looked to his left, where Alex sat, and then turned right and saw Lina. Damien thought for a moment, flashing back to what the girl had claimed her power to be. "We-el, so that's why Sonny looked like someone stuck a tack on the seat. I don't want you to be scarred from what's inside my head, and considering how shallow the pool is in here... Well, I hope you like baseball. Otherwise you're gonna be bored t' tears in 'ere." Damien shifted his thoughts to how he could improve his pitching. Everything from physics to the physical went into that equation. And Damien could keep that up all day, considering how much he loved baseball. Damien cut off this line of thought for a moment to try and strike up a line of conversation. "So, do any of y'all 'ave a job in this town? Or are you guys not lookin' fer any?"

Jason walked into the Coffee shop. The sweet smell of Coffee hit him hard and instantly made him want a caffeine fix.

Jason noticed Sonny fidgeting around like he was nervous about something. Then he jumped up suddenly like there was a snake in his chair or something.

"Alright what does everybody want?" Sonny asked everyone with an antsy look in his eyes.

"You okay dude? you look a bit panicked. But if you're fine then i'll have an Iced Mocha." Jason told the flustered boy.

Alex hadn't said anything in a while. He had been trying to puzzle out Damien's response without sounding like a muscle bound moron. However, when he heard the others talking about Ms. Tanya his train of thought got completely derailed by that. Both her and her motivation bothered Alex, there was so little that they knew. What bothered him even more though was that he knew most of the teachers at least by reputation if not better, but as far as Ms. Tanya went he could only draw a blank. Sure, she was a teacher and always had been, but beyond that Alex couldn't remember a thing; not one opinion or rumor that anyone had ever mentioned. But she had been there forever... right?

Due to his combination of exhaustion and thought Alex barely realized they had arrived and sat down until Sonny sprang up again.

"What?" He blinked as he quickly grasped the situation. "Oh, right. Umm..." Alex trailed off as he looked up at the menu. Why in the world did they have to have all those weird names for things? "I'll just have a small coffee. Thanks." He said with a smile.

Catching Damien's question Alex couldn't help but smile. "A job? Hey man, here school, homework, clubs, and sports is just about full time. At least that's how it seems to me."

"Alright, what does everybody want?" Sonny asked all, looking

"A small Coffee, please." Angelo replied. He tried to read Sonny's actions but didn't get it. Sonny seemed like a nice person, though something was clearly busy on the mind of Sonny. Rather than get too much into it, he decided to relax. Damien struck up a conversation about jobs. "Jobless. I have a small blog, get's a few readers and I get some revenue, but not a lot."

That blog was his only friend, the only thing he could talk to in confidence without it ever doing wrong. The people commenting could, but not the blog itself. The blog was his only friend.

Jason smirked as he pieced together a response to Damien's question. He kicked back in his chair and put his feet on the table and his hands behind his head in a relaxing pose.

"I have a job alright! Its called 'slacker'. The pay isn't much but boy does it give great vacation time!" Jason sighed with a smile on his face. Jason brought his right arm around in front of his face and looked at the SPIRIT bracelet on his wrist and then to the glowing scar a couple inches farther down his arm beneath his sleeve.

No matter what I do, I just can't keep my mind off of this damn glowing scar. What the hell could my power manifest as if its coming out of my arm!?

Damien shrugged when he heard Alex's response. "Yeah, I understand what ya mean. But I meant in the off season, maybe during the summer. I just like havin' my own source of income. It's childish, I realize, but I just like the feelin' of havin' bought something with the money I made with my own hands. I was just lookin' fer a job in the neighborhood and I figured I would ask around." Damien then looked at Angelo with some interest. "Oh? What's it about? Write down the site, I'll check it out when I get home!" Damien rummaged in his backpack for a minute before triumphantly pulling out a pen. He slid the pen and a napkin along to Angelo so he could get the address of the site. Damien always liked blogs- he never had the guts to write one of his own, but he found they were usually interesting or useful. Just as he slid the pen, he noticed Jason's arm glowing neon blue under his shirt. Damien made a show of pulling his backpack up on the table. "Say, human flashlight, mind stickin' yer arm in my bag? It's dark at the bottom and I can't seem to find my papers." Damien grinned as he slid his backpack off the table. "But seriously, at this rate either yer power's gonna show up, or we're gonna hafta stick a lightswitch on ya somewhere." Damien shook his head before looking at everyone else. "Anyone else feelin' unusual? Minus the smart-ass comments, please?" Damien was actually serious. He was frustrated and agitated by this whole series of events.

Jason laughed at Damien's observation. "Yeah, if this thing keeps glowing like this, i'm gonna have to find some way to hide it during school."

Damien's next comment was a bit more serious though. Which caught Jason off guard for a second. He hadn't thought about it much. His scar was hot to the touch, but it didn't bother him otherwise. Other than that, he felt fine.

"No, nothing weird about me other than the heat thats coming from my scar. How about you?" Jason replied without any sarcasm.

"Alright; two coffees, a mocha, a frappucino and a hot chocolate. Got it." Sonny spun swiftly on his heel, waved his arms a little to avoid toppling over, and set off towards the cash register without giving anyone an opportunity to offer to pay for their drinks. Sonny had instigated this trip, and a gentleman always footed the bill. That was the nice thing about being Sonny; you could choose to be whichever, depending on which the situation called for.

There was a queue, for which Sonny was thankful; he wasn't desperate to return to the table, and he had some stuff he needed to think through before he returned. He'd have to apologize to Carolina, and, depending on what she'd heard, he'd need to talk to her about some other stuff as well. If all went well, that could lead to the two of them becoming friends; that'd be nice, right? If it went badly, though, she might decide Sonny was a bizarre, detestable human being and take it upon herself to inform everyone else in the town how bizarre and detestable Sonny was. Or, worse still, it may turn out that Sonny's immediate impressions of her were even truer than thought, and she'd turn out to be a serial killer and attempt to chop Sonny up with a machete when they were alone together.

Oh, crap; how far did her power extend, exactly...? Was it possible that she'd heard all this too? Oh, for bloody- wait, actually, this may not be a bad thing. If Sonny and this person were friends, Sonny would need to think about all the things he was thinking, and he'd take care to avoid thinking nasty things about people; this could be a step to bettering himself as a person!

With renewed vigour, Sonny resolved that he would befriend Carolina before the day was through. The cue - and Sonny's introspective period - had come to its end, and Sonny stepped up to the counter. He had to take a second to recall the orders, and he was afraid that for a moment he'd forgotten them; a woman's memory is a powerful thing, however, and he remembered quickly enough before standing there became awkward.

He placed his orders - Sonny felt a twinge of self-satisfaction when he realized he'd gotten them all right; he wasn't actually expecting to, and this would surely be a step forward in this "making friends" transaction - then returned to the table and touched Lina on the shoulder. "Um... could I possibly have a word with you, please? In, uh, private?" He smiled shyly and nodded his head at the ladies' restroom.

"Huh? Oh, sure."

Lina got up and followed him to the girl's bathroom, which confused her a bit. Wasn't he a guy? Sonny was definetly a boy's name, the last time she checked...

Shaking her head to clear the thoughts, she turned to face him.

"So... what did you want to talk to me about?"

Sonny thought about thinking about what he was about to say, but he realized that thinking had been what had caused the need for action to arise in the first place, so instead he said what he needed to with the least amount of prior thought possible.

"Um... I don't know how much you heard, but... I was thinking some things earlier, and I was kind of worried that maybe if you heard the things I was thinking then you'd think I was weird and wouldn't want to be my friend, which I'd hate, 'cause I, uh... really, really like you, Carolina."

Sonny dropped his gaze and rubbed the back of his head. That went worse than it possibly could have done, but having said it he felt a sense of satisfaction and calm. Moving on to the second article on his agenda, he continued:

"So, um... Did you pick anything... y'know... personal up from me? I mean, how does the "reading minds" thing work? I, uh, I mean, I don't wanna intrude if that's too private..." Though, of course, you'd be liable to struggle more if you wanted to avoid prying as well... no, that's cruel! Don't start thinking things like that! God, I've been saying the word "think" a lot lately, haven't I...?

Before Sonny could get lost in his unusual tangents, he remembered his standing and looked up again. "Sorry about that... I didn't mean it. It just popped into my head, and I couldn't really stop it..."

Lina blinked. "Well..." she began hesitantly, "I just found out I could read minds today... so... I can only read surface thoughts at the moment, so I guess.. I might have picked up on some things.

She mentally kicked herself for sounding so akward. Damnit, I'm not so good with people! Lina had a habit of telling things like they were, even if she did come across as rather blunt at times. So, she decided to just say what she was feeling.

"...You seem like a really nice guy, though. I can't say I have many friends, but then not a lot of people pay me any attention. Frankly, if you want to be friends, than that's fine by me."

She turned towards the door, then looked back.

"By the way," she added, "If we're going to be friends, you can just call me Lina."

Alex looked up at the new arrival. "Oh? Sure, have a seat." Alex scooted over a bit so there was a bit of extra room to sit down. "You're Jack, right? We were just talking about this morning and class."

"Hmm..." Alex hummed to himself as he finally took a good look at Jason's scar. It really was standing out quite a lot.

Suddenly getting an idea, Alex pulled his backpack out and set in in his lap then began rummaging through it. After a second or two of blind reaching he found what he was looking for and pulled out a small roll of thin white tape.

"Here." He said offering the roll to Jason. "It's an athletic tape that we use all the time to wrap up little injuries and what not. It probably wouldn't draw many odd looks if you had your arm wrapped up a little."

Alex then frowned for a moment as he tried to think on Damien's question. "Well I don't feel any different. A little tired, but nothing unusual. Then again it's hard to know just what's supposed to happen. I mean, I just can't really accept that I'm going to start shooting lasers out of my eyes or something all of a sudden."

Alex was quiet for a moment as he looked out a window. "So what was it like for you?" He asked Damien. "Did you feel weird?"

As some of you may know, the South Eastern United States got pounded by storms this past Wednesday. I happened to live in the place where the storms hit the Hardest. My entire County's power has been knocked out and will be out for at least a week. I don't know how long it will take until i can post effectively again. So, As of now, I'm placing Jack and Calumon in the position of Acting DM. I have left him with some instructions on how to further the story if I am not back in time.

For the time being, I have fled the state, and taken refuge in Northern Tennesee. I have internet. but i can't stay online for long due to time constraints.

Sorry about all of this.

In case I was not clear in my previous movement. You all have permission to awaken your powers to their first levels.

Damien laughed softly to himself, but there was little mirth in his laughter when he heard Jason's question. "Honestly, by this point I'm havin' a little difficulty drawin' a line between normal and weird now. I currently have the ability to become the world's greatest demolitions expert, and I'm nit entirely sure how the hell this happened." Here Damien shrugged. "As is, I'm just tryin' t' put on a happy face and roll with the punches." Damien thought silently as he pondered Alex's question. "I'll be the first to admit I ain't the smartest guy in the world,so bear with me if the explanation sucks. I just felt... So angry. At first I was scared shitless- a super-tiger just jumped at my throat. But then as I tried to protect my head, I started to think about all that I had, the future I had planned, and the things I wanted to do. I thought, 'who the hell are you, that you have the right t' take all this away from me?' Then my rage just exploded, and it ended taking out the tiger demon with it."

Damien shrugged as he sighed. "You guys are lucky though- I wouldn't mind going through the SPIRIT bracelet process myself. I don't know how your powers are gonna manifest though." Damien looked up at the ceiling for a moment before remembering something. "Oh yeah! It's a bit o' useless knowledge, but after I first used my power, I felt tired t' the bone. I could barely walk the last block home, it was so bad." Damien shook his head as he picked up his drink and nodded his thanks as Sonny, who moved away too quickly for Damien to voice his gratitude. He then grinned as Jack shyly walked towards the group. "But enough of this emo crap- pull up a chair, mate!" Damien kicked out a chair for Jack to sit down in.

I think I speak for us all when I say don't worry 'bout it. We're just glad you're not dead. But thanks for the heads up, AHL. Take yor time, and I hope you return as quickly as possible!

Jason accepted the role of tape from Alex. "Thanks, definitely want to keep this..." Jason fished a pair of sunglasses out of his pocket and put them on melodramatically. "Under wraps-YEAAAAAAH!!!" Jason looked around to see if he had been awarded any attention for his internet meme. All he recieved were a few weird looks from the other patrons of the coffee shop.

Sitting down sheepishly, he rolled up his arm sleeve and began wrapping the athletic tape around the glowing scar. Starting at the bottom of the scar, he wrapped in a spiral all the way up to the base of his wrist. He tore off the tape and secured the end against his skin. the tape had reduced the glow of the scar greatly, but a small amount of light was leaking through the wraps in the tape. Not enough to be noticed though. He rolled down the sleeve and returned the tape to Alex.

The mocha drink sat in front of him, untouched and waiting for Jason to drink it. Jason took a sip but was not met with a bittersweet taste, but rather something resembling chocolate milk. "Ugh, this isn't right at all! I'll be right back." Jason spat out the drink back into the cup and got up out of his chair. He approached the counter and found the female teenager attending the cash register. She was about Jason's age...Maybe she went in his school. "Umm. Excuse me miss, I recieved the wrong drink, I ordered an Iced Mocha, and what I got is more like chocolate milk with no coffee in it. Would you mind remaking it for me please?" Jason asked politely with a smile on his face.

"Ccccertainly ssssir. Right away." She replied smiling back, putting a lot of length on the es sound of the words.

"So, do you go to high school around here?" Jason asked. Trying to get her to talk more. "My name's Jason by the way."

She turned away from him and awkwardly hobbled over to the coffee equipment. It was almost as if she wasn't used to walking... "Yesss, I do, I'm in Misssster Thompssson'sss Homeroom. My name issss Bleu." She told Jason while she was preparing his drink.

Jason nodded while he eyed her up and down. However, he did a double-take when he looked at her legs. At first they looked just like ordinary human legs. However, there was a vague hologram of a single, snake-like body surrounding her up to her waist. On the ground there was a visage of a tail that was supposedly just another part of the body.

What the hell is this!? What is that outline around her body? Can anyone else see it?

"Here isss your drink, sssir." Bleu smiled as she handed Jason the coffee drink.

"Thank you v-very much." Jason stammered, a bit shocked at what he had seen. He hurried back to the table with the rest of the group.

"Guys, did you notice anything odd about the clerk up there? Because from what I just saw, she has the outline from the waist down of a snake. She holds the esses of any word and she hobbles when she walks. Would one of you mind going and looking, just to make sure i'm not seeing things?" Jason whispered, hopefully out of earshot of Bleu...
